You dont get psych ward for life, they look after you until they determine you aren't a threat to society and you get evaluated on a regular basis. On the other hand that state has life with no chance of parole for her crimes so you simply go in prison alive and come out dead.

The Psych Ward gives her a chance at being released however small, the prison gives her none.

Honest question. Wouldn't the psych ward find her not a threat to society? She murdered her children, there are no more children of hers to murder so technically she would not be a threat to society.

She was psychotic. Hearing voices commanding her to do things against her moral compass and losing grip on reality. If she remains psychotic or having frequent suicidal or homicidal thoughts, she would remain a threat to those around her (although obviously much less to adults and given her physical limitations now). Regardless it is important to ensure that she is adequately treated and monitored. Some people will need to stay on antipsychotics long term.

She could still be determined a threat to other people for example what if in a few yeaes she is dating a guy who cheats on her, how would she react?

But they need to certify it could never happen again. Doctors would need to put their professional reputation on her not being a danger of snapping, no matter the stimulus. And would put their license on having documented why, based on the standards of care and diagnosis. For someone with psychosis, that means medication (which she can no longer refuse, she loses bodily autonomy) and monitoring for years, as episodes are often years apart.

Stats show hospital sentences take a lot longer than just going to jail. She wasn’t gonna walk out of that hospital, not for decades if ever.

Not before she’d go more insane from being in the psych ward.

Conditions wise prison might be better for her.

They might find her not a threat but if you look at the numbers it would be decades away.

Being released isn't very common, and people get released from prison early due to good behavior. Please stop talking about things you don't understand.

Its a life sentence without a chance of parole in that state for that crime, not hard to look up even for somebody with your mental capacity.

The parole board can still commute uour sentence, as they didnaith William Allen and Thomas Koonce. But I wouldn't expect you to bother googling that with your brain capacity. Dumbass.

They were released because their sentences were commuted from first to second degree murder. If they were still considered guilty of first degree murder they would have never left those prisons.
