My damn school kept it from us. They made it a half day and I didn't find out until I got home what was going on. I entered the front door and my brain skipped a track as the TV was playing on repeat and I found out what happened.
Yeah. My mom did a similar thing except she was better at it. I was eight at the time, and my mom was on a homeschool craze at the time, so she was able to keep me and my brother from finding out for an entire year and I asked what happened on September 11th. To this day I don’t know how to feel about it. I get I was young, and she was just trying to protect me, but there’s some things that shouldn’t be kept like that.
My school didn't even send us home early. We were sent home normal time, not a clue what had happened. I opened the front door to the sight of the replay of the towers burning and my mother on the floor bawling her eyes out. She had been crying all day.
Same happened to me. I was a Freshman in high school, and the school never said a word the entire school day. It wasn’t until after I got home from Quizbowl practice later that evening I learned how the world changed.
Part of me kind of gets it because I guess they didn’t want everyone leaving school in a panic (not that it mattered anyway because only about 40 or 50 of us showed up the next day), but I also still kind of feel like it was fucked.
Pretty much same here. One teacher told us about it but that was it. The rest of the day was business as usual. We didn't even get a half day and I had a driver's Ed class after school that day.
