I wasn't alive yet, but my mom was. It was her 28th birthday and she was driving to work and had her CDs in since she didn't like to listen to the radio. When she arrived some of her coworkers were freaking out and one was screaming about how one of the twin towers were hit by a plane.

A friend of my mom said that is was a small plane (many people assumed so at the time) and many in her office crowded into the break room where there was a TV. Just as it was turned on the all watched Flight 175 hit the south tower.

She didn't celebrate her birthday for close to 15 years. Its her birthday today and it's still very rough for her knowing how many peoples lives were lost.

Hey, my birthday was the 2004 Indonesian Tsunami, the greatest tragedy in recorded history, so I feel that

That was such a shocking tragedy… hundreds of thousands of deaths. I was in Asia at the time and I assume the news were as full of what was happening as for America on 9/11.

Similar thing happened to my dad, he was sleeping in on his birthday and my mom tried to wake him with the news. He thought she was making up a story just to get him out of bed. He still waits until a later day to celebrate his, never on the day.
