Friends and people I love signed up for war with noble intentions. For love of country. Only to be sent places under false pretenses, used and abandoned.
The Patriot act. I remember reading of the details and thinking It was terrifying. That this was the catalyst for nothing good in the long run. That power once given, historically, is almost never relinquished willingly.
The worst part is that Bush had an intelligence briefing that there would be a massive attack and did nothing. Many cynical people like myself believe that they knew it was coming and just wanted to utilize it as an excuse to plunder the Middle East with popular support. It also became a convenient way to distract from the rapidly growing wealth inequality and to have an insurance plan of mass surveillance just in case anybody started to care.

Middle of High School.
They turned on the TV.
