Is there a way to address the rampant corruption/cronyism across the USA?

I would assume that the average person interested in politics is aware that the American system is rife with corruption and cronyism. Especially at the local and State levels. So what are some ways to address that kind of issue? Are there examples of particularly effective methods of addressing those issues? I have obviously seen people like Nick Shirley hammer fraud, and I love it. I feel it helps, but is there more that can be done?

I am also interested in how to address it from within the parties. I don’t think anyone who is paying attention is under the false illusion that “my party isn’t corrupt.” I think they vote for the “least bad” option. So how do you address it within your party? Is there something people can do there? Promoting more honest candidates and voting for them? But that’s just getting harder and harder.
