Deserved a punch? Sure. 

Deserved dozens of punches when he was knocked out utterly defenseless on floor? Fuck off. 

That went way way beyond self defense or what was necessary. That guy needs to be in prison for attempted murder.

When you think you're about to be stabbed, you don't stop when your opponent is bloodied. Unless you want a knife in there gut. Dude had no idea what he was going to do, just acted because he was acted on. People who think it's funny to do this shit deserve the extra few hours of sleep.

A court wouldn't see it that way. If that ends up in the courts there is a very good chance he is going to prison. 

You can defend yourself, but only to the point they are no longer a threat. That guy stopped being a threat the second he hit the floor. Everything after that was just psychotic.

But when talking about assault and self defense, courts look to see whether the defense was reasonable given the extent of damage that was reasonably expected by the victim. Killing someone who is unarmed would be difficult to defend, but beating the fuck out of someone because they're lunging at you from behind (potentially with a knife) is warranted.

If they looked at this video after the third punch they aren't going to see someone defending themselves. They are going to see someone who is absolutely out of control trying to kill someone who is unconscious. A simple lunge isn't going to be a justification to try and beat someone to death.

The whole point of the trial is to figure out if the reaction the man had was reasonable given the degree of expected violence and bodily harm. Idk where you have lived, but clearly not in a bad area. Given what's in the video it's reasonable that the man would think he's about to be stabbed, and the other dude was in-fact awake after the video was over. Albeit barely.

Tbh it looks like a trauma response to me as well. He was already keeping a close eye on his surroundings even before the idiot lunged. That beating most definitely looked like he was just acting on instinct to neutralize the threat and snapped out of it when camera guy hollered.

I've lived in bad areas my whole life and that is definitely a full on fight or flight response. I really can't blame the man for it, tik toker shouldn't have acted like he was goin to attack him in the first place.

Ok do you see the guy on the floor making any moves to defend his head while he is taking those punches? Because I don't, and that is a pretty major indicator of someone is still a threat. 

What if next time he crosses paths with a person who has a form of epilepsy or Tourettes that causes random arm movements, would he be justified in beating them to death? What if he just misread something and thinks someone has lunged when they haven't? Would it be justified then?

Does the guy look like he is in control of himself to you?

I come from a place where you go to prison for that. 

I don't think you really believe this is self defense, if you do you're a fucking moron and you're going to end up in prison one day. I think you just like seeing it and use fuck around and find out as a justification. 

And self defense doesn't mean you have to beat someone until they are unconscious.

That's what I'm saying. These comments are full of psychopaths. The dude was already on the ground after the first punch. Hitting him repeatedly while he was already on the ground and unconscious is way overkill.

I hate to see anybody get beat like this. And yes, it may seem a little excessive, but if you're going to jump somebody, a random person on the street, & sucker punch them, then this is about what you should expect. Just be grateful you didn't get stabbed or shot which easily could have happened here.

I agree though reddit loves celebrating extreme violence if they can find any little reason to justify it.

The guy defending himself is probably not a doctor, so he can't determine with certainty that he is "unconscious". Just because your assailant is on the ground does not mean he stops being a threat.

Actual braindead take. You don't need to be a chef to tell the difference between a cake and a brownie. It is incredibly easy to tell when someone is unconscious, you are probably an idiot if you can't tell. Just because you have severe anger issues and sympathize with violence doesn't mean its right.

I'm a former soldier btw and when someone is on the ground and unconscious they are absolutely no longer a threat. You might just be a massive pussy that is quick to violence.

For clarity, the guy absolutely deserved to be punched, but to be beaten that relentlessly after he was already on the ground? That's attempted murder, cut and dry.

Any other position on this is lacking morality.
