That dude is doing a lot more than sleeping. He took a few dozen unprotected blows to his face and head. You can see his arms twitching at his side while the dude wails on him.

I'm sure it was totally worth it for his "super awesome and funny prank"

This kinda seems like an incident that would ruin both of their lives, that was about ten hits past a valid case of self defense. Feels like Mr. Combo has been walking around waiting for an opportunity to off someone.

Idk about that.  The puncher was assaulted from behind. Then, proceeded to fight until he was notified that the assailant was no longer a threat.

Unless youre a trained fighter... its reasonable to believe that you are still under threat even if your assailant is on the ground.

I cant imagine a jury who would convict with this footage available.

There's no shortage of people walking around who have seen some shit and have been hardened by their life experience, one threat away from completely snapping. This "prankster" was (un)lucky enough to encounter one.

Whether this was excessive force or not, it wouldn't have happened if that dummy didn't start trouble. He should consider himself lucky the dude just used his hands.

Whether it was justified or not, I can understand how this happened, and I think a lot of juries would too.

15 or so punches after the guy clearly goes down after punch 1 is not in any way shape or form fighting until notified the assailant was no longer a threat. Unless you have alzheimers and have a 10 second delayed reaction to anything happening around you

I want to know sincerely, would you still feel that way if you were on the receiving end of that barrage? I'd also like to mention that it can take as few as one impact on cement with your head for you to become deceased. I think you may want to push back on this and say "Well I would never provoke someone like that" or such but let's put that aside for a second and just assume you did something by accident for the sake of the hypothetical.

Your hypothetical scenario doesn't make sense though. If you did something accidental and got this response, then it wouldn't be self defense, it would just be an assault.

Dude can punch fast, but it was only like 2-3 seconds. If you are being jumped from behind, you are reacting to a “my life is being threatened” situation. You can use force until the attacker is no longer able to be a threat. That means lights out plus some. What if the guy on the ground has a gun. You gonna wait to see if he can grab it? That is self defense. Maybe you shouldn’t fake attack someone that can unleash hell with their hands immediately.

He punched for the duration of his adrenaline dump, he physically couldn't and shouldn't have stopped in the middle of his fight or flight reaction.

Like chemically, this guy should not be held accountable for "too many punches."

I'm also of the opinion that sucker punches to the back of the head is attempted murder, so someone positioning to attempt to kill you should be met with force meant to completely subdue the attacker.

Adrenaline isn't a defense. There's no doctrine in criminal law that excuses you because you were chemically amped. The only defense that actually says "my body acted without me" is stuff like epileptic seizures and sleepwalking, not "I was in fight-or-flight."

Exactly this. He was assaulted from behind. Meaning he thought someone was trying to murder him. He fought until a bystander notified him that the assailant was no longer a threat. And stopped.
