Japanese Korean and Chinese devs are doing just fine, better than fine.

It’s western devs that are shit

Beyond shit at this point. Never thought I'd see the day. I just keep thinking "What type of company culture exists within those studios where such mediocrity at that scale gets green-lit and no one says this is a very bad idea?"

Everyone knows exactly what the issue is, but when you say it you’re called a grifter or a right winger or something. So it is what it is

All these giant western developers stopped hiring super nerds with dreams and visions and started filling all their spots with people that looked good on paper.

All these people have art degrees and don’t know the first thing about gaming, they just like art and can make games.

They’re so paranoid about game sales now that they consistently hire groups to direct them in what “people want” and these groups are completely out of touch.

There’s nothing wrong with being “liberal” but having an overly liberal writing team and art team severely strains vision. A game should just be a game, it should have a strong director that calls the shots without influence.

Asian developers don’t understand how fucken dumb we’ve become. We’ve removed male and female in games and added body type 1 and 2. Our entire gaming outlook has become “let’s make people happy” instead of “let’s make this fucken awesome”.

We went from making games about shooting demons in New York with a shot gun to struggling to curse and following arrows and yellow paint.

It’s beyond fucken bad.

Yeah man, it has nothing to do with crunch culture, development times that are solong a studio can literally lose thousands of employees or straight up being shutdown if a game doesn't release or if doesn't meet financial expectations, widespread structural instability that affects the development of the games, predatory monetization practices, Sony trying to push live service with studios that have absolutely no experience or size to maintain them and affecting their already spare output even more and trying to create a monopoly im the market by removing discs. Nah, it's wokeness, blue-haired libruls and diversity.

People with art degree can create good art. This is a bit silly take honestly. I think the real issue is studios being bought by business companies that dont have anything to do with gaming. This would be supported by the fact that double AA studios are doing great.

Everyone knows exactly what the issue is,

Oh, I'm sure.

But you can't bully people with snark to get them to keep dropping 80$. Sony should be learning from Concord, not embracing the failures.

u/CzarTyr 11h ago

They have to filter out the people they’ve hired. It’s going to take awhile

Lower dev costs win out.

Turns out you can make much better games for cheaper when your per dev hour cost is just several times lower, and there's literally no downside to chasing lower dev costs when there's no marginal costs to selling more games, nor tariffs on selling games overseas.

This is wildly overstating it. Plenty of great AA stuff has come out of the west in recent years.

Aren't we talking about aaa? West studios being absolute shit rn

1

u/CzarTyr 2h ago

We’re talking about AAA. AA will always be great because it’s made by people that want to make games, not college students looking for the highest paying job

Sony is japanese, no?

Unfortunately not anymore, you could even argue their fall started when they moved their gaming HQ to the US.

"Sony moved the global headquarters of its PlayStation division (Sony Interactive Entertainment) from Tokyo, Japan, to San Mateo, California in April 2016"

Does SNK still count as a Japanese dev because they are in the shit stew.

u/CzarTyr 12h ago

Aren’t they owned by Saudi now

Not true at all. Zero Company was excellent and just came out. It's very specific genres seeing a massive drop in quality and frankly it's due to oversaturation and lack of innovation.
