He even admitted he had reasonable doubt that she was guilty yet out of spite didn't vote the same way as the other 11 jurors.
Yes that is the point. He had reasonable doubt that she was guilty, which means he couldn't reasonably convict her of being guilty. And yet still held out.
Heresay is one thing, but it's from people who were in the room with him who followed the case alongside him in the jury. If we don't have his perspective then the next best thing is eyewitness testimony of what he said.
