That little adaptor plate pretty much puts the load in compression in the bottle, not through the top which would have cause a larger amount of shear in the glass from the curve.

Pressure doesn't build up, or increase when you shake the bottle up. It's under pressure the moment it's sealed and that pressure stays the same until you open it, and it's not really high pressure as far as a glass vessel is concerned. The weak point is the cap.

When i was in Panama back in '90 there was a kid that would stop by with 2 5 gallon buckets 2/3rds filled with Cokes. orange soda, and Sprite on ice. 25 cents a soda, and he would give you 5 cents back when you returned the bottle.
The thing was that the bottles often times did not match the soda that was inside. It was kind of cool to drink an orange soda out of a coke bottle that was super weathered and may have been 20 years old.
We also made it a rule to not accept the 5 cent return and let the kid keep it. That kid was a hard worker, and we all really respected the grind. He always offered, and we always refused to take back the deposit.

Here in Finland glass bottles used have their manufacturing date stamped on them. Oldest I saw was made in 1985 and this was around 2000 or so.

Last time they sold beer in those old bottles (in 2020 I think) I got a bottle from 1985 as well.
They actually stopped manufacturing that style of bottle in 2009 and just used the recycled bottles for 10+ years. As far as I know those bottles are still being used in some limited capacity, though now all glass bottles are recycled by being crushed.

Yeah, in a lot of poorer countries someone buys the syrup and bottles their own for local sale where they don't have regular access to factory bottled.
I've seen a bunch of videos that range from basically small professional bottling plants with organized supply chains to questionable water, dirty bottles and mystery syrup being put together in someone's shed.

Cans are typically bearing the weight of the other cans in a stack but glass is usually stored in a container than bears the weight. A crushed can is easier to clean up than a glass bottle when experiencing catastrophic failure

At costco, with the pallets of Mexican coke, the 'box' for each 12 pack only covers the bottom half of the bottles. That plus a sheet of cardboard between each layer helps distribute the weight. But there's still a lot of pressure on the bottles themselves.

It makes a lot of sense for glass bottles to be very very strong once you factor in both the shipping methods and the atmospheres of pressure it takes to keep them that carbonated, a lot of sodas are like 7 volumes or more. Basically they need to be able to withstand a lot of pressure both from within and also outside pressure from shipping stacked on top of each other.
The main reason why it's so common for the whole champagne bottle smashing against a new ship ritual to go poorly is because the tradition predates modern champagne bottles being designed for shipping in cardboard boxes rather than crates packed with hay as they were designed to withstand pressure from within moreso than out

The bottles are coated with a tin or titanium film that greatly improves their strength, then coated with wax, so they smoothy slide past each other on assembly lines. This wasn't widely used until the 60's.

In addition to the scoring method for a real bottle, there's a niche segment of prop bottles / breakaway bottles designed to shatter easily and safely. A lot of theater / wrestling / weddings / other events love the drama of smashing glass but not the realities of it.

Its why mentos cause the reaction they do. The surface area essentially give space for the reaction voke wants to take, to occur. So it rapidly expands its volume to its true size when given reaction space.

Trust me they are. The number of light weighting projects we did at the bottling plant I worked in. Basically every year they were reducing the amount of glass in each bottle. The limit comes when bottles explode in the filler during the filling process.

When a rounded internal volume is experiencing outward pressure, that outward pressure reinforces the structure of the object, making it stronger.
An empty coke can is weaker than a full one. The same logic applies to air inside an airplane.

Sorry, I would argue the opposite.
Glass is strong in compression but weak on tension. So Coke bottles are thicker to withstand the internal pressure of carbonation. Glass jars for uncarbonated stuff are much thinner.
Aluminum soda cans benefit from the internal pressure because the walls are so thin, they easily buckle when empty. Also, aluminum cans fail more from bending which is relatively gradual compared to glass which fails from brittle fracture, which is sudden.
I would like to see tests of

Yep, ceramics are stiff & strong, but brittle and susceptible to flaws/cracks. No problems under compression where the force basically closes cracks and stops propagation at the head of the crack. Absolutely different story under tensile load though...

No. Yes it would be the same. Glass is brittle unlike aluminum that can bend without internal pressure. Glass cant bend. It's already very strong. The internal pressure is insignifiant compared to the weight applied in the video
With aluminum can the pressure causes the can to align, so when you apply weight you are effectivelly applying weight on very thick aluminum ((height of the can). If the can is empty, then the slightest imperfection will bend the aluminum, reducing the effective vertical thickness to less than a milimeter.
Glass is already solid, it doesn't require any support from the internal pressure to increase its structural integrity. An aluminum can's structural ingegrity DEPENDS on the pressure in it.

It’s internally pressurized and sealed, so no, it definitely wouldn’t withstand nearly as much weight if the bottle was simply uncapped and open to the atmosphere.

No. Glass is significantly weaker in tension and shear than compression, so any internal pressure would add undesirable shear stress. There is air at the top, so the incomprehensibility of the liquid is irrelevant. But the gas pressure 50-60 psi is pushing up over a few square inches.
Metal cans are different, as the outward gas pressure helps prevent the thin aluminum walls from buckling inward, plus the pressure applied to the ends of the cylinder.

Can probably handle quite a bit more if it doesn't have each object CLANK down from above. Every little bit of extra stress counts, and loud shockwaves that cause stress spikes when the force of the plate stopping on the metal above strikes. It's like hitting it a little with a hammer while increasing the weight each time.
I'm betting it can go ~10% higher, if not more, on a press that gradually increases stress without dropping solid objects onto the glass bottle.

If I'm not mistaken the volume of liquid inside causes a significant increase in the strength of the glass, If I were to guess it would fail with half the load if the bottle were empty since there won't be any additional pressure inside to support the vertical compressive force.
