Go to Youtube and look up some wingsuit videos - try to sort by ones from at least 4-5 years ago. Google the names of a couple of those pilots.

As do most whuffos, you're conflating wingsuits with a very specific subset of the sport: proximity flying. Plenty of people fly wingsuits for decades. I'm one of them. I've flown with men and women in their 70s. I also have a lot of dead friends from proximity flying. Yes that is very dangerous.

Pretty much. Skydiving is pretty safe, with or without a wingsuit. You can do that till you get too old.

The moment you go to base jumping from a structure or mountain the danger goes right up. If your parachute doesnt deploy right you can get in real trouble.

Proximity flying, where you try and fly close to the ground is as dangerous as any extreme sport gets. Either you quit or you will end up dying

Wingsuits from both planes and fixed objects can be done relatively safely. The latter is slightly more dangerous, but if you have an overhung 5000ft cliff handy, and you pull high, the difference is negligible.

And extra risk can be added to any wingsuit flight (or even parachute flight) regardless of what you exited.

It's kind of like this:

You can participate in mountain biking without riding in Rampage.

You can ride a motorcycle without participating in Isle of Mann.

Wingsuits themselves are very safe today. But people who fly wingsuits are usually people who love to push the limits.
