Volcanic eruptions have a short term cooling effect from the ash in the atmosphere but they also release a lot of greenhouse gases and so they are warming in the long term

I remember Mt. Pinatubo. The coverage lasted for a long time. So sad, and such a scary, terrible disaster.

I still remember (I think) the Nova episode on this event with the guy that seemed to narrate 2/3 of the episodes of Nova. Guy had an epic voice.
