The bell ringer is sending me ⚰️ really impressive job nailing the texture on that bronze piece too.

194

u/LoverOfPricklyPear 22h ago

It legit made me laugh! The bell had good effort put into it, but that striker absolutely sucks!!

125

u/Aegi 21h ago

The funniest one to me was that pendant or earring or whatever kind of like a star with the two people in one costume.

I think it had to do with the fact that it took two of them to only become one piece whereas nearly everybody else had two people being two pieces if the museum piece had two pieces in it.

I don't know, explaining humor is weird and I'm also a little stoned so it's getting kind of weird thinking about that.

28

u/Algaroth 20h ago

The contrast makes it so much better. Especially seeing the gold statue and then moving on to that.

15

u/CicadaFit9756 13h ago

When I first saw the man dressed as a statue, I actually thought that was the original before seeing the ancient artwork. Should've known better!

5

u/CicadaFit9756 14h ago

If he had no arms or legs, he'd have more resemblence to a striker than a "long, weirdo doggie--but that might've been too big a sacrifice! (Would've looked better if the "monk" had dangled a paper mache one!)

u/badword 23h ago

A really fun and creative way to get people involved and encourage them to engage with history.

And the tortoises and the bell are definitely the funniest thing I’ve seen today.

79

u/747_full_of_cum 22h ago

the tortoises are my favorite i think, love this whole idea.

17

u/badword 21h ago

Absolutely! Looks like they are having so much fun. Just super wholesome, isn't it?

The face of "I regret saying I don't mind being the bell."

396

u/PaleoJoe86 1d ago

Bells do not smile.

254

u/Estoye 23h ago

The Liberty Bell cracked a little

53

u/I_might_be_weasel 1d ago

Well that one sure as shit doesn't.

5

u/ScissrMeTimbrs 22h ago

Not with THAT attitude.

4

u/WitnessAway6720 23h ago

But u can ring them

5

u/PaleoJoe86 22h ago

Only when struck.

2

u/TDYDave2 23h ago

Looks more like a bawling bell than the belle of the ball.

2

u/Cenobyte_Nom-nom-nom 23h ago

But bella can be the epitome of joy and freedom. So they can smell.

41

u/GooberMcNutly 22h ago

It would be worth it if you could yell BONG!!! every time the hammer hits you.

13

u/I_might_be_weasel 22h ago

I think the hammer is into it.

11

u/TheGrumpyre 21h ago

No denying she's a funny girl, that bell

10

u/umlaut-overyou 22h ago

Ok but who shaved their head to be the monk?! Did they just have a friend who was a monk come with them?

7

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme 19h ago

That looks like it could totally be a latex bald cap over someone's hair!😉

4

u/umlaut-overyou 19h ago

Genuinely the cleanest bald cap I've ever seen! Truly impressive

5

u/slumberjak 17h ago

At least she didn’t have to be the fking gimp!

1

u/I_might_be_weasel 13h ago

I suspect he's into it.

2

u/stefanica 15h ago

"My head itches."

5

u/Cenobyte_Nom-nom-nom 23h ago

Lots of places in the world I've discovered don't smile in photos. Smiles are saved for personal relationships.

17

u/space-sage 23h ago

Koreans smile in pictures…this is just for the presentation lol

1

u/Cenobyte_Nom-nom-nom 23h ago

Ok, like I said lots of, I didn't specifically say Koreans. It was a guess.

-3

u/Gorzillow 19h ago

He asked if he could slam his donger into her and she thought she was agreeing to something else entirely.

769

u/80lbQUIKRETEConcrete 23h ago

I feel so uncultured…this is peak😭

180

u/RogerClyneIsAGod2 23h ago

We're over here dressing up like Batman for funsies & they're over there dressing like historical art pieces & SLAYING AT IT!!

22

u/R3strif3 20h ago

Right!? They are so freaking unique and creative, rather than seeing the Nth slutty Harley Quinn or Spiderman.

10

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme 19h ago

Or the eighth "Naked Torso" look, at this spring's Met Gala🙄🤦‍♀️😱

10

u/JudgmentalOwl 20h ago

For real - they look like a bunch of Dark Souls bosses lol

146

u/Gibberish45 1d ago

Damn, that’s actually interesting!

82

u/Redplushie 23h ago

I need to see them all they're so funny

76

u/LittleRedCorvette2 23h ago

I wish other museums offered this!

36

u/thetatershaveeyes 19h ago

If enough people do it impromptu, you can force any museum to offer this.

17

u/LittleRedCorvette2 17h ago

Challenge accepted! Rosetta Stone dress here I come!

70

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme 23h ago

Anna and the Met Gala folks NEED to take notes, and then send a set of these images out, to the folks attending the Gala, for pete's sake!!!

THIS is what Met Gala attendees ought to be using for inspiration!

124

u/10HungryGhosts 23h ago

Yooooo this is great! More museums should do this :)

49

u/Astridandthemachine 23h ago

The turtle people look so whimsical

7

u/FerengiWithCoupons 16h ago

why they on the roof tho 😭

14

u/Corvidae5Creation5 14h ago

They're basking

5

u/GONGDIHAKSENG 14h ago

Oh my god🤣🤣

33

u/aredhon 23h ago

This is most excellent, what an incredible inspiration all around. Masterpieces, every one of them.
This idea reminds me of another out of the box thinking a museum did when the Baltimore Museum of Art asked its security staff to curate an exhibit of their favorite pieces.

32

u/Plus1ForkOfEating 23h ago

Richmond, Virginia's art musuem has done a summer program for kids every year that's basically the same thing. See: https://www.vmfa.museum/teen-stylin

5

u/shakedownavenue 20h ago

So cool! Thanks for sharing

2

u/Zebidee 14h ago

They've had something similar in California for a long time. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think it's Pageant of the Masters?

63

u/LeagueofJohnLegends 23h ago

This is my favorite thing I’ve seen today.

25

u/omnificunderachiever 21h ago

The Minneapolis Institute of Art has an annual Art in Bloom exhibit where people can create flower arrangements inspired by art in the museum. Here are some of my favorites from the last one I attended.

21

u/ShannaGreenThumb 23h ago

This is so fun and creative. I love it.

17

u/clue124 22h ago

I love this museum. Ive gone there so many times growing up for festivals and field trips. They have frequently rotating exhibits and its massive. Def recommend checking it out if you are visiting yongsan

14

u/theWildBore 23h ago

I need more pics this was too much fun!

13

u/cheetles_plus 23h ago

Peak Mecha Chameleon players

10

u/blackweebow 22h ago

I like the intricacy of the bell and the dude is just wearing a brown onesie 💀

8

u/King_K_24 23h ago

This is the best costume contest I've ever heard of

7

u/LostTimeLady13 23h ago

Certified interesting! This is amazing!

7

u/gowahoo 23h ago

These were all great!

7

u/GutterRider 23h ago

This is fantastic. I love the turtles!

4

u/astralseat 23h ago

The last one is lovely

4

u/chrisproglf 22h ago

The bell ringer is the winner for me, lol.

3

u/Whooptidooh 23h ago

Number 8 is 🤌

4

u/WitchofGremlinEnergy 23h ago

Cam we do this

5

u/retiredtumblrgoth 23h ago

Number 6 is breaking my brain how tf is that costume

5

u/Goatmanlovesmothman 23h ago edited 15h ago

This is the kind of whimsy I that live for.

5

u/1HappyIsland 23h ago

Very creative and helps foster appreciation for the museum!

5

u/Artistic-Visit 22h ago

imagine being security guard #4 on that shift... just standing by the glass case watching a guy breathe inside a 900 year old jar. he's gotta be checking his watch every ten seconds wondering if he should tackle him or just pretend he didn't see anything. 'hey did you count the jade dragons?' 'yeah all five.' 'cool cool just checking inventory' *sweats profusely*

5

u/JourneyForMe93 21h ago

This looks so fun and whimsical they could be used for Halloween too lol

Okay but for real the Bronze Ritual Bells from slides 6 and 7 are really cool like some monster from a dark fantasy rpg!

5

u/laureidi 19h ago

You missed the best one imho, I’m apparently not allowed to add images but the fish guy at the end is the best

12

u/Asher_Tye 23h ago

And they say other countries don't have a sense of whimsy

16

u/PipTheGoat 23h ago

Who says that?

8

u/Asher_Tye 23h ago

The Society of Scholarly Fuddi-Duddies

7

u/dw0205 23h ago

Very creative. Thanks.

4

u/Sidetrail 22h ago

My local art museum has a pretty similar contest but for flower arrangements. Local florists make an arrangement based on an assigned piece and then there is public and non-public judging. A fun spring tradition.

3

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme 19h ago

Are you a Minneapolitan, too?😉

2

u/Sidetrail 17h ago

Saint Louis, but still Midwest!

6

u/wineandhugs 22h ago

Me as a BTS fan recognising the last 2 pics instantly 🤣💜

Also this is amazing!

4

u/DontKillMockingbirds 22h ago

That is some next-level commitment. 10/10, no notes.

5

u/Sir_Boobsalot 22h ago

I'm suggesting this to my local museum

6

u/FichtreMazette 22h ago

You can’t post that and not share a link where we can see previous years as well !

5

u/ha-hallloween 22h ago

This is so cool! Is there a site to see the other years submissions?

4

u/One_Waxed_Wookiee 22h ago

My brain skipped the "exhibit" in the title. I was wondering how people could dress up as a building!

1

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme 19h ago

Minneapolis residents know!

You'd simply dress up as the Rock 'em Sock 'em Robot Walker Art Center!😉

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walker_Art_Center#/media/File:Walker_Art_Center_03.jpg

1

u/One_Waxed_Wookiee 11h ago

That would be impressive!

5

u/Largeitude 22h ago

Aw man, I was hoping to see someone dressed like a Venus

4

u/arbitraryairship 22h ago

A Horror Game Designer somewhere is furiously copying some of these down.

6

u/EINFACH_NUR_DAEMLICH 21h ago

I need more whimsy in my life

3

u/lilislilit 21h ago

Number 6 is amazing, ngl I want to see if they could walk like that

3

u/dryfire 10h ago

Legit thought pic 2 was the art until I went to 3.

7

u/Tharrius 23h ago

This is hands-down smart engagement.

7

u/Ok_Nectarine_4445 23h ago

This is good wholesome fun! The throwing star thingy the funniest 😀

3

u/MorningSquare5882 22h ago

Oh I love this! I would so take part of one of my city's museums did something similar.

3

u/FiguringItOutAsWeGo 22h ago

This is such a fun idea🩷

3

u/MobileLocal 21h ago

I love this

3

u/Uffen90 21h ago

The bell has to take the gold.

3

u/Deemarvelousone 21h ago

So who won?

3

u/Jedi-master-dragon 20h ago

Honestly, this just feels uniquely Korean. I can't really imagine an American museum doing this because it would just be a bit too weird.

3

u/FamousOhioAppleHorn 20h ago

Did nobody tell Leslie Nielsen about this before he died ? A tragic oversight!

3

u/chinakachung 20h ago

This is my kind of carrying on

3

u/LadyAsharaRowan 20h ago

It's like the Getty Museum challenge that started during covid.

r/GettyMuseumChallenge

3

u/G_Art33 20h ago

This is amazing. #2, the sitting gold guy, so well executed that I actually thought HE was the statue for a second.

The other ones are awesome too, but they have more of a home made appeal while he is more like a set piece on a professionally produced movie.

3

u/Hair_This 18h ago

AT the museum?! would love to see this in person

3

u/Stretch5678 11h ago

This is the greatest thing ever.

Not only is it delightfully amusing, it also gets extra attention to the pieces!

3

u/KamikazeMizZ 9h ago

The earrings are really fucking sending me right now.

3

u/Forsaken-Energy6579 8h ago

That turtle one is amazing

9

u/PaleoJoe86 1d ago

Going out on a limb here and saying this must be SK as NK is not fun.

17

u/HuggyMonster69 23h ago

Yeah, the museum is still just called 국립중앙박물관 or “National museum of Korea” though

2

u/puerh_lover 21h ago

Which pics are the costumes?

2

u/thulsadoomformayor 20h ago

This is both hilarious and incredible.

2

u/nothisistheotherguy 20h ago

Joseon you, that’s how they always dress

2

u/HybridPS2 20h ago

6 is an Elden Ring boss lol

2

u/Cherryontop255 20h ago

🤣 the last one

2

u/penny-wise 20h ago

These are brilliant

2

u/literalaretil 20h ago

Some of these are very creative

2

u/No_Priors 20h ago edited 20h ago

This needs to have world championships.

I already want to go to a museum and find something to dress as.

2

u/honestyseasy 19h ago

The real art the Met Gala is afraid to do

2

u/ovelanimimerkki 19h ago

A lot of these look like they could be enemies in Expedition 33.

2

u/Livid_Tax_6432 19h ago

IS IT OPEN TO FOREIGNERS??? I NEED TO KNOW? lol

2

u/eniox27 18h ago

If the bell guy dosent have to say bong everytime he’s hit the costume is a waste lol

2

u/MixedBerryCompote 17h ago

no link? I guess I’ll go find it myself sigh

2

u/Objective_Idiot 17h ago

THE BELL AND THE TURTLES AND THE THING THAT ONE METAL POKÉMON IS BASED OFF OF

2

u/TallulahBob 16h ago

I love this…SO much.

2

u/AdeptnessRealistic28 14h ago

This is pure brilliance

2

u/hidingwaffles 13h ago

The videos of them imitating the movement is the cherry on top

2

u/No-No-Aniyo 10h ago

The gold man's golden toes cracked me up.

2

u/Fun-Post8497 4h ago

Oh that looks so fun

2

u/Tellyourcats 3h ago

Lol the ring is so accurate

1

u/floofychaps 20h ago

These are brilliant. Number 8 reminds me of New Order’s True Faith video

1

u/kotters85 20h ago

This is f-ing wonderful

1

u/AcheapRolexWatch 20h ago

Slides 6 and 7 (6-7 bleauehah) were very well done. They have my vote

1

u/CherryCherry5 19h ago

This is awesome and hilarious.

1

u/yakshack 19h ago

I didn't realize bell cosplay could be so kinky

1

u/RosemaryHoyt 19h ago

I love everything about this!

1

u/gelseyd 19h ago

Dang I wish more places did this. What fun!

1

u/Butterfly_and_Bee 19h ago

I was saying “wow” to each one until I saw the bell and audibly laughed.

1

u/Cherrytop 19h ago

This needs to become the new Met Gala ball.

1

u/nimbus57 19h ago

"Dress Like a Museum" Exhibit

1

u/Maevenn 18h ago

Having the side-by-side comparison in the first pic confused me. I got to the turtle costumes and thought, "I can't even tell which one is the original!" smh

1

u/FureiousPhalanges 18h ago

Number 5 looks like something from a fromsoft game lmao

1

u/Diligent_Drink9735 17h ago

We're an interesting species...

1

u/GoldenFish2224 17h ago

The last one. 😂👏👏👏

1

u/Labrat4ever 17h ago

they brought it, amazingly creative

1

u/Ok_Willow_2589 17h ago

which ones are the exhibits?

1

u/Budsygus 16h ago

I love this so much.

1

u/winter-anderson 16h ago

wearing that bell looks like a backbreaker. i bet they couldn't even turn their heads without clanging.

1

u/LokiDokiPanda 16h ago

This is incredible 🤣

1

u/ubergic 16h ago

6 was the winner, but #8 was mighty close.

1

u/Schmooto 15h ago

This is brilliant! The turtles are so hilarious

1

u/sebby_eris 15h ago

THEY DRESSED BRUH UP LIKE THE FREAKING LOG FOR THE BELL 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

1

u/OaFK_2 15h ago

🤣 at the last one

1

u/normal_mysfit 14h ago

Those are great

1

u/Madam_Bomb 14h ago

I loved this and wanted to see so many more pictures!!

1

u/ExSogazu 13h ago

My favorite thing about this is, there’s also a sort of Galla type event with the participants posing at the photo line and runway. There’s an initial elimination process with the photos that participants send in and the qualified get to walk on the runway. 😂

1

u/ZombieAladdin 13h ago

Some of these remind me of the demons you would fight in a Shin Megami Tensei game.

1

u/GawdDammitD0nut 12h ago

Little head, big head lol

1

u/woodvsmurph 12h ago

It's a trap. They're actually identifying everyone capable of hiding themselves as a museum exhibit so they can't sneakily stay there after the place closes.

1

u/free_-_spirit 10h ago

I love this so much, we need this in Canada

1

u/PriorMasterpiece3004 1h ago

Project Moon, please take this idea!

1

u/Imaginary-Figure4171 17h ago

My favorite one is a bell costume(not the one in the pic) it’s a pity that i can’t upload the pic

-3

u/whyheonlysayneat 13h ago

Is this before or after beat a dog to death because the adrenaline makes the meat better day?
