Love this! I saw a post recently that said that disability is the only minority group that any of us can become part of at any point in our lives (whether temporarily or permanently).

When we keep accessibility in mind, whether it be when we are building/designing streets and buildings or creating community events, we are able to support everyone, including those who may not be disabled but benefit anyway (eg. parents with strollers using ramps).

My husband became disabled earlier this year due to illness. We went to the aquarium earlier this week and they had about 4 disabled parking spots on the first floor of their parking structure but about two full rows just for EVs. I'd have have kept looking for more spots on higher floors but unfortunately their elevators weren't functioning. 🙃

It's not the first time we've gone somewhere with a massive amount of parking space but a severe lack of disabled parking spots. This is like baseline accessibility and the disabled community is consistently let down by lack of accessibility in day to day tasks.

It's a particularly bleak ass time to be disabled with eugenics having a very big comeback, and the disabled community having lost some iconic leaders in recent years (including several to a lack of community care/safety like Tinu Abayomi-Paul and Alice Wong).

In Canada, 28% of people are disabled and yet you don't see us meaningfully represented in media, in public discourse, or in policy decisions. We are disproportionately more likely to experience violence, to struggle finding employment despite qualifications, and to end up homeless. What Rio is saying is bang on and deserves repetition. In the face of rising hatred, we need active allyship.

I have been waaittinggg for this and Dylan  O’Brien as Evan White, racist girlfriend and all this is pretty much all we get in terms of disability representation

Yeah, disabled is fine. Most disabled people don’t like “handicappable” as a term. Disabled isn’t a bad word.

Echoing this as a disabled person. Disabled isn't a dirty word and attempts to not use it are typically rooted in ableism (the belief that being disabled means you are worth less, etc). Disability is a natural part of the spectrum of existence.
