Living in NYC was insane. Thousands of people meeting up. A micro economy started around one corner of Central Park. Extra food trucks started setting up there. There were people with portable chargers selling access to them. Absolute insanity.

I was there. Sitting around Grand Army on 59th and 5th spinning stops. Someone will yell that there's a Snorlax nearby and then 50 or 60 people get up and book it into the park hoping it doesn't despawn before they got there. There's still a pretty robust player base still in NYC. Bryant Park is a huge meet up spot for events.

My husband proposed to me in Bryant park the first real weekend where everyone flocked there, to the fountain specifically. We had to flag a tourist down to take our photo because literally nobody else would stop playing the game

I got married that summer and several guests complimented us for the fact that our venue had a Poké Stop 😂

Yeah, I came back to the game in like 2019 after stopping after like 7 months. I still play. I usually head to Bryant Park on big event days.

That was one of the best summers of my life. My step son and I would take my 2 dogs on long walks around Williamsburg and Manhattan every weekend playing it on my phone. He was 8 and we were thick as thieves.

It was the same in Tokyo. On the day it was released I walked home and literally everyone was playing it. And when I say “literally everyone”, it was everyone. People running too and from different sites to catch whatever Pokémon. Amazing times. Never seen the society as united as that day.

The week it launched was my birthday celebration. My gf at the time got us a stay at the Jane. Super dope but I couldn't tear myself away from Pokemon Go. Lived uptown, but really anywhere in NYC it was a function. You'd walk around the nieghborhood and see other people doing the same and you knew what everyone was up to. Kinda silly but it was this kind of community building thing.

My friend broke her ankle at her wedding and still hobbled around on crutches playing Pokémon Go all day the next day.

I had just moved to Japan in 2015. The crowds in Tokyo playing Pokemon Go were insane.

Oh wow what a flashback! I lived in NY too at the time, seeing hundreds of people staring at their phones walking slowly around Columbus Circle is one of the weirdest sights I’ve ever seen in my life, esp since at the time i had no idea about Pokémon go, I had no clue what they were doing
