Everyone here is probably too young but the night Michael Jackson first did the moonwalk on TV.

It was literally the only topic of conversation at school for days as everyone tried to replicate it. Within months, every black kid had a jerry curl (and many of the white ones too.) This was before any form of social media or even VCRs. It spread like wildfire.

My dad's a boomer but even he was talking to me about the first time Michael Jackson did the moonwalk. He would've been in his mid-late 20s

I was watching live and I really didn't know anything about Michael Jackson beyond the Jackson 5, but as soon as he started performing there was just this feeling in the air. It was in that auditorium, and somehow it transferred through the tv and even before he moonwalked you could tell that something historical was happening right in front of your eyes.

And then when the moonwalk happened that was it, and I tried so hard to take a mental video. I've thought of that moment many times throughout my whole life.

(and the only reason I even tuned in that night was because Adam Ant was supposed to perform and I was really into Adam Ant. bless my questionable musical taste for giving me that moment instead)
