Donald Glover had been doing great work before this with Atlanta, Childish Gambino, and his comedy in general. But this so thoroughly captured the moment that it felt like he literally caught lightning in the bottle and exploded beyond all expectations as a member of Derrick Comedy. That he has not reached the same level of popularity and acclaim since further makes it feel like a fever dream

I think he’s very careful about how much he’s in the public eye. I know he had a few more kids since this song but also had a stroke a few years and have been keeping everything low-key.

I’m a massive fan of his and have also been invested in his popularity because I remember someone making fun of me for liking his music so much back in 2010. I was a very sheltered Midwest white girl and was sensitive about my musical taste and knowledge lol.

Every time he releases a critically-acclaimed banger, I feel vindicated and say FU Sam!!!
