The ui for the event showed a geo character could be selected, which no standard 5 star is Geo. Everyone was suspicious that MAYBE, jjst maybe but we should slow our rolls just in case it didn't happen. THAT and another leaker even said this leaked event ui being counted as different from the free standard 5 star select event in the event tab means nothing
It's nation-based instead. Nod krai and mondstat excluded. 6 nations represented. Baizhu - Liyue, Chiori - Inazuma, Nilou - Sumeru, Clorinde - Fontaine, Varesa - Natlan, Nod Krai is skipped, and Tartaglia - Schneznaya. If mondstat was added to it, it would most likely be Klee, Albedo, or Eula. Those are the only early Mondstat limited 5 stars. Most Mondstat characters pre-Nod Krai are either standard 5 star or 4 star.
I would not mind nabbing Klee or Albedo (for his C2) if they showed up. Eula would be worse than any of the options on the anniversary exclusive selector. Sorry Eula mains.
No way Hoyo giving out a free lunar-reaction 5 star. Next year we may have another random selection of characters pooled from each nation. I'm guessing Emilie, Ayato, Shenhe, Albedo, Mualani, and Wanderer. That makes a selection of 6 like this time.
Same, my Qiqi was C4 before pulling for Odette. I lost two 50/50 on my way to her C2, which sucked, but both were Qiqi at least. So now she is C6, which is nice for my tsundere robot dps, and I can also get my very first masterless stella fortuna as well.

Honestly, sig weapons might be even more valuable because of how the weapon banner works. Will make many r0 users happy to give their characters their sigs.
Free weapon would be nice, but since genshin has good 4 star alternatives, it’s honestly not that big of a deal, especially since we’re getting 1 free standard + 1 free limited, and the free constellation system to top it off.
Not big of a deal? Any crit rate/dmg ratio is just annoying to balance if you dont own the sig and dont buy the bp and then just have for EVERYTHING ducking atk% or EM% instead of crit weapons😑
Yes and no. Genshin has good 4 stars and it rarely makes or breaks a character, but it’s also pretty common to find the only decent f2p weapon is an event weapon from 3 years ago or an R5 version of a craftable. Every time a Claymore character comes out I cringe because I know damn well I’m going to see fucking Mailed Flower at the top of the recommended weapon list.
I wish that standard banner weapons were a tad bit more accessible, and would have been happy with a selector for one.

Just in the last year or so HSR gave out a collab 5* selector (2nd free collab character), a 5* selector (with Sparkle), a strong 5* sustain, and a token to redeem any 5* in the shop, including limited ones. That's 4 limited 5* character in a year. And every patch starts with a free 10-pull login event?
Like I'm very happy about Genshin's anniversary rewards too, but this is NOT an "HSR could never" moment :'')
Laughs on my free archer, gilgamesh, huo huo, and getting golden tokens to exchange for whatever units keep being added to the pool, yearly, and 4 battle passes = 1 weapon of that same pool of our choice, or permanent one

Finally I can get Baizhu 😭 He and Xiao are the last older characters I want so getting one of them for free is great. Hopefully the Liyue buffs are real and Xiao does get buffed and finally reruns on regular or chronicled banner. Hoping Baizhu stocks go up if we do get a new or revamped Dendro reaction after 7.3.
Baizhu is a tough one for me to pass up, not gonna lie. Very much a character I could never justify pulling for but like a lot, and gambling on him getting a buff is enticing.
Unfortunately I’m a big exploration fan and have been considering pulling on a future Natlan CW mainly for Varesa or Xilonen’s c1. I’d have probably preferred Xilonen’s, but this keeps me from wasting pulls there since I’ll have too many characters whose cons I don’t care about if I lose the 50/50.
Yeah, none of these picks are particularly exciting. Varesa is probably the safest pick, Baizhu is the gamble, and Childe is the 'inject the copium here, please' pick for me.
that's why she isn't here and didnt get a rerun... it's gonna be the biggest buff ever and reveal she is the true HP and vengeance shall be hers as she now wield a nail instead of claymore. truly the biggest impact of them all !
Yeah, I mainly pull for exploration and kit novelty, plus I’ve always felt my Varesa was was just a tad bit undertuned for some reason compared to my Clorinde for some reason, so I’m pretty stoked. Between her c1, Vesna, and c2 Xianyun from the con selector I’m going to be very happy during 7.1.

People who like them can still pick them but Varesa is definitely the only one who is worth picking here because she's literally the best on land exploration
utility aside, right now talking about meta with those chars is pretty irrelevant, since a buff can come at any time to anyone, or at least that's the cope. If that's the case, then it's just a matter of you being blessed with a good random guess lol.

Some are relevant at least in IT. The healing lunar arcana stage is difficult without a teamwide healer. Baizhu does just that. And if Liyue buffs are coming, Baizhu might just be a beneficiary of it. Chiori is also pretty good. Her c1 makes her pretty viable in Navia hexerei. Even in lunar crystallize, solid substitute over Illuga, assuming he isn't at least c2. From my experience, got Zibai without getting any Illuga cons. Got his c1 off of standard banner.
I cannot for the life of me believe that after 6 years, Genshin has finally given a limited 5 star, this feels like a dream. You should be able to skip to Snezhnaya region after completing Monstadt. The TP point should be available. It does require to skip previous regions, especially if you want to do the story in order, but it's there if you want to get the free 5* quicker.
I'm still in Natlan and quite annoyed I'm going to have to sprint through second half of Natlan and all of Nod Krai for this. Genshin really hates new player experience when it comes to lore. Constant unavoidable spoilers due to limited events requiring you to be somewhere and quests just starting without your consent for stepping in the wrong direction.
Kinda like ZZZ giving away Lucia for free alongside such meta-defining characters like Hugo
Though I guess Varesa's time on the meta has passed now that the focus is on special reactions (one of which is Electro), so it makes sense even if she IS still pretty strong
Ehh even though Rupture isn’t shilled often anymore, Lucia is essential to a whole lot of T 0.5 / 1 carries. Significantly higher value than Varesa pure meta wise. Although I have never once regretted getting Varesa she has made the game and exploration waay more fun.
I’m debating getting c2 Nilou because i got her weapon, and her bloom teams with columbina and lauma can actually do some nice dps if I get that constellation.
But in another end, when I started genshin I always found childe cool, and his playstyle looks super fun. So I kind of want to get him for my younger first-starting genshin self.
The "average account" doesn't give a fuck about Stygian beyond lvl Hard and rarely gives a fuck about the Abyss, which is clearable with a 50k Venti team btw, so all of these will be a godsent for them.
C0 Varesa without C6 Iansan and C6 Chevreuse is not doing a lot to be honest - at that point her main advantage is mobility in the overworld. Getting Mizuki to C2 is likely a bigger improvement from a meta perspective...
Not really F2P friendly, you need Iansan and Chev constellations for her to be at a good Natlan DPS level. Not great now we are in Szhnez and 4 star cons are a pain in the ass to get.
Ehh it's hard to say as none of them are meta really so it's speculating on future buffs more than anything else. Just choose you favourite. I'm a Nilou enjoyer so gonna be getting her, Varesa is an equally fine choice if you like her (and defo the best out of all of them for going fast in the overworld).

With the way the HP inflation is going, this is last year a C2R1 Varesa might help you for a Dire clear, though doubtful

Yea im not excited for anyone they picked, new players don't have any of their teammates, so they won't work nearly as well and even worse if you like doing endgame.

Its literally not about negativity for me, the characters they picked are all so specific, none of them can work for anyone I have. I like doing endgame but I started in nod krai, I don't have ANY of these characters teammates, their literally just gonna be another character that sits there .
I love the rewards but the limited selector is so random and clearly just for long time players.
There's nothing wrong with pointing out that the characters aren't great for new players.
Otherwise, the 20 free pulls is not that amazing to me because all the gachas I play give out 10 WITHOUT it having to be anniversary.

Does the non standard selector only have those characters as option? And do they come with their signatures? The copium leaks suggested but I'm not sure about those.
This will be Nilou C2 for me, the character that keeps on giving fr, I got (sadly) R2 Key and another R1 key years back, but she will finally be put to good use (yet again, since I used her before powercreeps) with my Nefer team :D
I'm just gonna say it, the event selector is ass outside Varesa, and ppl are coping arguing "future buffs" and "C2"(which requires you to pull or own already). They went out of their way to add ineffectual low acc impact units on it outside Varesa 😭And Varesa herself is still just borderline atp post-V6 creep.
