How does one get into West Coast Swing? I’m not a dancer but not devoid of rhythm either - I just can’t imagine showing up to a class like this and keeping up at all

These classes are for advanced dancers or even professionals, so you'd want to find beginner classes near you. There are also youtube videos but I find those hard to follow. YMMV.

You go to a beginner's class! Usually one sequence is taught, with a couple of moves, and you work on that until you have it down!

Nope these dances are mostly improvised and it’s just the dancers kind of reading each others cues. In the Jack and Jill style competitions, i don’t think they even know who their partners are going to be beforehand.
