What?

A narcissist lied to make themselves look better than reality!?

Surely not!

Journalists don't seem to know how to handle lies.

64

u/Yespat1 2d ago

It is a bully lie.

bully lie is not told to convince anyone that it is true. It is said to dominate.

It is often so obviously false that everyone knows it. And that is precisely the point. The power of a bully lie is in what it demands. You know it is a lie, and yet you are expected to nod along, stay silent, or even repeat it out loud.

It is a public test, not of truth, but of loyalty and submission.

Agree completely. His bold
Face lies need to be called out every time.

40

u/ElegantCoach4066 3d ago

But then he gets upset! Journalists are well known for being afraid to push back when reporting a story.

Look at at Woodward and Bernstein, they just accepted the facts that were released and it was how they broke the story.

17

u/BigBankHank 3d ago

It’s a self-filtering mechanism. As the people being reported on become more powerful and the news outlet gets bigger, otherwise competent / talented journalists that don’t threaten the powerful — both their bosses and powerful interview subjects — tend to rise to the top.

Journalists with strong personal ethics get washed out and those willing to compromise their ethics in the right ways give themselves a better chance of “success” in the industry.

It’s the same mechanism at play in politics, law enforcement, and business — capitalism’s other “invisible hand.”

19

u/GoofyTunes 3d ago

When did the news start sacrificing objectivity and truth to "be fair to both sides" (which is bs btw)? Real journalism doesn't care if you're left or right; it cares about the facts and it wouldn't smudge the facts to appease a political party. But now it feels like only a couple media orgs actually do real news, while the rest all do state propaganda to appease the new dictator.

2

u/Evening-Painting-213 1d ago

Fox is now entertainment. Like he said and says ask the time, fake news. He does that because he projects the control over the presses that he controls through the United Emirates owners of the network.

13

u/LysergicPlato59 3d ago

Trump’s lies are both bold and bald faced. Although you’ll never see a shame faced lie.

7

u/crownandtorch 2d ago

Yes!! This!! And I wish they would use the word “lie” not some watered down euphemism.

15

u/tcote2001 3d ago

They do it’s simply that they have been told by their billionaire owners to never disparage Trump.

14

u/discussatron 3d ago

They're running cover for him. They're not incompetent, they're doing a job that is not what we expect it to be. Same as congress; they're not cowardly, they're complicit.

653

u/ParaponeraBread 3d ago

Yes he’s lying and we have a grand history of his lies specifically about 9/11.

That said, he didn’t say he was lifted out of the rubble. He said he was carried out of some other nearby building a couple days later that was “in danger of collapsing” and “creaked a lot”.

This is also a lie, and there’s no evidence he was in the building he claims to have gone in. He also lied by increasing the number of employees he claims to have taken to ground zero to help each time he retells it. This is again, a lie.

127

u/Trollbreath4242 3d ago

Not only is it clearly a lie, but all the press at the time included interviews with him, and he talked repeatedly about watching it "from the windows in my office," which was on 5th avenue. "We could see it from some of our windows."

So, in 2001 he was nowhere near it. In 2016, he was still nowhere near it. Suddenly in 2021 he was in one of the buildings and had to run out with firefighters. Now they carried him out. I guess that plays to his delusions of being a king, because only a king would be carried out of a burning building by two servants, so it must be true. /s

62

u/justacheesyguy 3d ago

I like how even in his lies, he’s still a useless lump of shit that’s just in the way of people who are just trying to do their jobs. Even if his story was true, which obviously it’s not, he’s not even making any claims that he helped, he’s just openly claiming that he was wasting the time of at least 2 firefighters who had to babysit his diapered ass instead of actually being able to do the job they were there for.

35

u/truckstop_superman 3d ago

Give it a day or two, he'll be posting AI images of him carrying two fire-fighters out of the World Trade Centre.

3

u/ParaponeraBread 2d ago

Again, he didn’t claim to be there or carried out ON 9/11. He claimed that firefighters carried him out of a different building in the following days that he says was in danger of collapse.

16

u/justacheesyguy 3d ago

Thank you for this, I don’t know why I’ve seen several people claim that he said he was pulled from the rubble.

It’s very important that in calling out his lies we don’t further embellish his fictions. What he said was bad enough, there’s no need for anyone to lose their own credibility by trying to make what he said sound even worse.

6

u/PattyRain 3d ago

Thank you. I can't stand the man, but it is important to correct things like this. The truth is bad enough.

3

u/Soylentgruen 3d ago

I think Trump may be telling the truth. He cut a lot of corners with Trump Tower, so the rubble may be from his own building.

“The security and rules here at Trump Parc are ironclad — you’re not allowed to drive a nail into your wall anytime after 4 p.m.; you can’t make any noise — but the construction is shoddy. Thin walls. Plumbing is terrible. Everything was done to cut corners but to make it look really beautiful. I mean, the apartments are gorgeous. But that doesn’t mean that you’d look underneath. If you have a plumber come look at it, he’s going to say, ‘Who the hell did this? This is like spit and chewing gum.’ I said to a friend that if you sneeze in Apartment 4A, they say “God bless you” in 37C. I think the name Trump, whether it’s on the marquee or off, is completely and totally irrelevant. I’ve heard that people like his name on there. They can call it Tarantula Arms for all I care. At the end of the day, it’s a terrific apartment, and it’s a wonderful, wonderful place to live. I’ve seen people in the elevator with a real-estate agent, and they say, ‘Do you live here?’ And I say, ‘Yes. Buy now. Buy now. It will be Christmas, or Hanukkah, whichever it is, every day of your life.’ That’s one of the most descriptive things I can say: Every day is Christmas.” —Anonymous

Didn't he also claim to be in New Jersey on 9/11 watching "thousands of Muslims celebrate the attacks"?

58

u/smcl2k 3d ago

No, he said he saw it on TV.

22

u/kryonik 3d ago

A tv in the rubble.

33

u/Dewgong_crying 3d ago

Yes, and the only "video evidence" is from other countries of Muslims celebrating/protesting random events.

53

u/SideInitial3961 3d ago

five Israeli nationals detained in New Jersey on 9/11, an incident that later became known as the “Dancing Israelis” case.

  • The men worked for Urban Moving Systems, a New Jersey moving company.
  • Witnesses reported seeing several men near the New Jersey waterfront filming the burning World Trade Center and behaving in a way witnesses interpreted as celebratory, including high-fiving.
  • Police circulated an alert for their white moving van. Later that afternoon, East Rutherford police stopped the van and detained all five men.
  • They were Israeli, not Muslim/Arab. The five were Sivan Kurzberg, Paul Kurzberg, Yaron Shmuel, Oded Ellner, and Omer Marmari.
  • The FBI investigated them extensively. They were eventually held on immigration-related grounds and deported to Israel, rather than charged with participating in the 9/11 attacks.
  • Separately, there were rumors that Muslims/Arab-Americans in Jersey City or Paterson were celebrating 9/11. Those reports were investigated and largely found to be unfounded; there is no good evidence for the large-scale celebrations sometimes claimed.

3

u/Dewgong_crying 3d ago

So why were the Israelis "dancing"?

The point isn't whether or not Muslims really were dancing in the street. The point is that it's hard to be in two states at once.

3

u/soilentgleem 3d ago

People saying they saw people celebrate it was fairly common from what I remember. Much more common than people actually celebrating it, at least from my memory.

3

u/bushido216 3d ago

The point is that he's claiming to be in two different states at the same time.

3

u/Xanto97 3d ago

The tweet is lying, he didn’t claim he was taken out of the rubble of 9/11. He claimed he was escorted out of an area a few days after 9/11, when he went to visit a damaged building.

It’s disputed because it’s hard to prove that something didn’t happen. It’s very likely a lie, that’s why they write it like that.

So much for a free and independent press. The current group of oligarchs that own almost all of our media, print or digital, have wholeheartedly thrown their hand in with the government and have formed the Vichy media, as propaganda organs of the State.

Trump lying isn’t the story here. The story is the consistent cowardice of America’s traitorous news media and their refusal to speak truth to power.

33

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad2735 3d ago

When did the claim go from him helping clean up efforts to being pulled out of the rubble? For the record I don't believe the the original tale

21

u/Raiden29o9 3d ago

I think in the last few days

Probably because Trump is a raging narcissist with an overinflated ego yet is also extremely fragile and envious of everyone around him so needs to make shit up to constantly make himself look better and for his cult to worship him over

6

u/exscape 3d ago

But did Trump actually claim it, or did the claim mutate online?

It'd be surprising for someone like Trump that his lie goes from him helping and being a hero, to being a victim that was saved.

7

u/bs000 3d ago

Trump said he sent construction workers from his building help the day of the attack. Then he said was in One Liberty Plaza (formerly the US Steel building) a few days after, when it was creaking, and firefighters supposedly carried him out of that building. People online changed the story to Trump claiming he was pulled from the rubble of the WTC. He's still lying, but people keep lying about his lie.

5

u/Lilfrankieeinstein 3d ago

He's still lying, but people keep lying about his lie.

The past 11 years in a nutshell.

4

u/DavisSqShenanigans 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah it's one of those bizarre but very common instances where people immediately start embellishing or (ironically) down right making shit up to complain about Trump when there are no shortage of reasons to call him out that are real and don't need to be made up. Just another meaningless distraction in a sea of meaningless distractions.

He didn't say anything remotely similar to him being pulled out of rubble. He said he was down there in the aftermath (he never even specified whether it was days or weeks later) "seeing what we can do". Most likely if he was down there it was in his capacity as a real estate tycoon, as a lot of those buildings downtown had been sold in 2001.

The US Steel Bldg he claims to have been in didn't reopen to the public until 6 weeks after 9/11. It's entirely possible that during those 6 weeks he went down there to see if he wanted to consider buying the whole thing (it ended up being purchased by Brookfield, with Blackrock later buying a 49% stake). And when he was in there, firefighters told him they're evacuating the building for safety concerns. They obviously didn't "lift him up", he's just making shit up. But him being down there a month later with a team of people evaluating if they want to make an offer to buy the building, and then being escorted out by the fire department seems entirely plausible.

2

u/Xanto97 3d ago

Agreed fully. This is a weird game of telephone and the story has contorted into things that trump never even claimed or said. There’s things to criticize him about, and the story is still likely a lie - but he never said he was pulled out of the tower’s rubble lmao.

It comes from people not reading or listening to the speech, and then just believing whatever inflammatory bullshit online.

He was. There's tons of press from the day of, and the days following, the attack, and he repeatedly said in interviews "we could see it from my offices." Those offices on 5th avenue in Trump tower, which is nowhere near ground zero. One of his employees said "I was with him in his office that morning, and we could see it."

Yep

My mom is like this (canadian trump supporter lolol)

I will ask: "what about xyz time he did something that directly goes against your Evangelical Christian morals?"

And she just says: "oh, no that was Obama/Trudeau, I saw a video of him saying it, not Trump. I will send you the proof" (and she never sends the proof).

She has already decided she likes him for reasons I don't understand. He regularly does things that the bible predicted the antichrist would do.

But okay, mom, keep supporting him.

We don't talk politics anymore because she does not discuss subjects in good faith and is inflexible even when presented with evidence contradicting her opinions.

3

u/_R0Ns_ 3d ago

Trump was interviewed on the phone that day (because his building was so close) and he was bragging that his building was the tallest now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcKlPhFIE7w

He was also telling he was looking out of the window see it happen.

3

u/coolbaby1978 3d ago

3

u/lemons_of_doubt 3d ago

u/Roskal 3d ago

Also the only one he's honoring is himself.

3

u/MonsieurKnife 3d ago

3

u/ceribus_peribus 3d ago

3

u/korpiz 3d ago

If he had been within 10 blocks of 9/11 he would’ve made sure everyone knew it then, and wouldn’t have let anyone forget since then. It would’ve been part of every speech and tweet he’s made over the last 25 years.

7

u/PM_YOUR_ISSUES 3d ago

Trump did not say that he was lifted out of the rubble of ground zero by firefighters.

Trump's lie was that he was at a building site near to ground zero. Was told to evacuate that location, and that, two firemen carried him out from this completely other building site to ... "safety."

It's important to get his lie right because it's somehow even more outlandish and absurd than a claim that he was at ground zero. Instead, he claims to have been carried out of a completely safe building, by firemen, several blocks away from ground zero to nowhere in-particular. Why would he even need to be carried? Where would they even carry him to? And why would the firemen even bother? Trump would be capable of walking himself, there was no rubble or anywhere where he was in his own story ... there just wasn't a need for any of it to happen at all. So, in his own story, Trump -- who could walk and was not injured -- needed to be carried to safety by firemen from a building site near-ish to ground zero but had suffered no damage. Oh! And there were several other people there with Trump inspecting that building site, but only Trump was carried away by firemen.

Nothing at the end of his story makes any sense and is obviously no true, just based on how he tells it. Unless, of course, the real story is that Trump was in an area that was told to evacuate, he refused, and was carried out by firemen against his will for his own safety while throwing a temper tantrum. That's a story I could believe, and I bet what happened.

The only time he isn't lying is those few seconds when he shoves another bite of Big Mac in his mouth. Probably even lies in his sleep.

That and if it had happened Trump wouldn't have shut the fuck up about it for the last 25 years.

1

u/brianishere2 3d ago

To be clear, Trump has repeatedly claimed he watched the attacks from his office. He added many other lies, from day 1. But, this lie is a new one.

1

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 3d ago

This motherfucker shames the memory of every first responder who died that day. Fuck this fucking pig. I will piss on his grave.

1

u/JinkyRain 3d ago

Chronic "liar liar pants in fire" is the only thing firefighters could help him with, and they haven't been able to douse that endless dumpster due yet.

1

u/Brokenclock76 3d ago

This is about 10x worse than what Brian Williams did and he stepped down from the nightly news over what he said.

1

u/orangeflyingmonkey_ 3d ago

I am in a dispute with my bank. I say I have a million dollars and they say no.

1

u/Nbdyhere 3d ago

Easiest way to determine it was a lie, if he was actually there, no one would have rescued him

1

u/Linnie46 3d ago

Also, why would he only start telling this story 25 years later? If there’d been a single grain of truth to it, he’d have been telling it every 9/11. The fact is, he was on the phone with some radio station crowing about how he now had the tallest building in NYC.

1

u/Doug_101 3d ago

There is no bottom with this guy. His propensity for lying is breathtaking, and not in the good way.

1

u/ordosays 3d ago

So, stolen valor? Stolen empathy? Stolen sanctity? What did the kleptophile acquire now?

1

u/rPoliticsModsBlowMe 3d ago

I'm starting to think this child rapist doesn't have any morals

1

u/squigs 3d ago

Also we have a recording of him talking shortly after the towers fell. We actually know where he was at the time - in his apartment in Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan. This is pretty well documented.

1

u/TemporaryLine6700 3d ago

And this is the reason I cancelled my Washington Post subscription.

1

u/asten77 3d ago

We'd know because those firefighters would still be suffering blown out backs.

1

u/thekyledavid 3d ago

Like most of the things Trump says, it is disputed by reality

1

u/Skoofer 3d ago

He was also on the phone while it was happening bragging about having the tallest building in NY after the towers fell. Anyone that has ever defended or supported him has their head in their ass.

1

u/RespectWest7116 3d ago

Actually, Trump was on the plane, fistfighting the terrorist to stop them from hitting the buildings.

At the last second they distracted him with photos of nude minors. Very cowardly move.

1

u/fastpathguru 3d ago

"Trump was hung on a cross next to Jesus" in 3... 2... 1...

1

u/InflnityBlack 3d ago

Trump lies on average every single sentence, you can assume anything he says is false and you would be mostly right

1

u/MattyBeatz 3d ago

Isn’t this like his 3rd different story about where he was that day?

1

u/Badeky 3d ago

I really hope no one believes this utter bullshit that this dementia of a president you have says.

1

u/Tinker107 3d ago

If they DID lift him out, they should be prosecuted.

1

u/Can-I-remember 3d ago

It’s in the soon to be released movie, Forrest Trump.

Apparently the movie shows that he was also was there when they captured the Venezuelan President and won the US Open Seniors Golf championship at 80. In a surprise twist he wasn’t at Epstein Island at all, according to the movie.

1

u/masterfulnoname 3d ago

Journalism in the US is truly dead if it won't push back on what is one of the most obvious lies he has ever made. It would be one of his grossest lies if he weren't also a rapist of both women and children.

1

u/mexicono 3d ago

Not only that, we would have known for 20+ years about it.

1

u/Independent-Bug-9352 3d ago

"Russell's claim of tiny orbiting teapot in dispute!"

Trump's Rubble is the new Russell's Teapot.

Remember,

Washington Post was bought by Jeff Bezos and has been severely undermined ever since.

1

u/Cosmoby24 3d ago

Needs to be lifted out of the rubble of his brain

1

u/Pletcher87 3d ago

A sitting president tells an obvious and blatant lie on national tv and our reaction is a sarcastic snicker and the thought ‘what an arshole’ and it’s done. And this is daily.

1

u/dgrant99 3d ago

He is definitely attempting to insert himself where he doesn’t belong. But, he never said he was lifted from the rubble or even at ground zero on 911. He said he was in or nearby another building that they thought was gonna go so they dragged him out of there. There would have 100% been an account of that at that time. No matter what he is now, trump was a pretty popular figure back then. Anyone that says otherwise is being a revisionist.

1

u/skylarben 3d ago

Trump is a compulsive liar.

1

u/D77889900 3d ago

It's either 1) a lie, 2) the dementia, or 3) both. Let's just speak plainly about this.

1

u/Green-Bandicoot-8412 3d ago

Wading through the blood and the bones in Manhattan

1

u/Snozzberriez 2d ago

He would have been spouting this multiple times a year for his lifetime if it were true. Why wait until now to say it?

Because he is a garbage human being who is manipulating his dumb as rocks base.

The real travesty is American apathy though.

1

u/daneelthesane 2d ago

I'm waiting for Trump to say 9-11 is fake news because he punched the planes out of the sky.

1

u/JonPQ 2d ago

If that had ever happened the whole world would know it for decades, because he wouldn't fucking stop talking about it.

1

u/Writerhaha 2d ago

Guys, just to put my own disputed reports out there, I beat Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt for gold medals in Beijing.

1

u/fiestyoldbat 2d ago

Donald Trump is unfit for office.

1

u/kts1207 2d ago

Was he lifted out of the rubble before or after he claimed he now had the tallest building in NYC?

1

u/tycho-42 2d ago

AND, he's on record at the time of 9/11 saying that he will now have the tallest building in New York.

1

u/mere_iguana 2d ago

Remember who owns the Washington Post.

1

u/Odd-Perception7812 2d ago

How is everyone surprised by this? He has been doing this the whole time! You elected this dipshit! Admit you fucked up, and get rid of him.

1

u/Terrible_Phase718 2d ago

There are plenty of photos of Hillary Clinton there. Haven’t seen one of trump.

1

u/Wuz-it-u2 2d ago

Hey, I was one of the fireman that picked Trump up and he felt just like a mannequin....

1

u/Katydid829 2d ago

And he would have made sure he was on camera even if he had to bring a photographer with him.

1

u/Thecardinal74 2d ago

1) He isn't claiming to have been lifted out of the rubble by firefighters. HE is claiming that he was down by Ground Zero the day after, was in a nearby building, and there were fears that building was going to collapse, so after a few creaks he's saying the firemen grabbed him and carried him away.

TRUTH: There WAS very real fears at the time that the structures around the WTC were unstable due to damage (fears that were found to be unfounded after structural analysis, but that didn't stop the fear at the time)

TRUTH: Horns would blow and people would panic and scramble out out of fear

TRUTH: The First Financial building was one of those buildings, although he referred to it by an older name.

2) HE IS STILL LYING. He was not there there Sept 12. He was in the area a few days after, not that close, he was never evacuated, he was never caught up in those waves of panic. He was, at his closest, near enough to give morale boosting high-fives to firemen and other first responders who were reporting to duty that day.

But on 9-11? 5 miles away, midtown, where Trump Tower was under construction, on the phone telling people that it looks like his building was now one of the tallest in the city.

Everything everyone in this thread about him is correct, I just wanted to clarify what he was claiming. IF we are going to shit on him, we should be shitting on him for what he really said, not a misrepresentation of what he said, as that delegitimizes the criticism and makes it easier for others to dismiss as "made up outrage"

1

u/bene_gesserit_mitch 2d ago

Did he do the leap like in Dirty Dancing, where he's Jennifer Grey and the fireman is Swayze? Pretty sure I remember that.
