His parents named him “Coleton.” AKA as tragedeigh douchbag

77

u/Think_Positively 2d ago

I can never tell if these names are intentionally misspelled, or if it's just an absolute moron filling out the birth certificate paperwork at the hospital by sounding out names.

19

u/hates_stupid_people 2d ago

A lot of the time it's intentional, thinking it makes their kid more "unique".

15

u/FUBARded 2d ago

That's what I don't get...

Why choose a basic name with weird spelling? People will still perceive them as having a common name because spelling rarely factors in for conversation and other normal use, and then it's just annoying to use in any written context.

If you're going to make your kid spell out their name every time for the rest of their life, at least give them something that's actually uncommon.

E.g., just yesterday I exchanged emails with a "Bradleigh" and "Kathrynn" at work. You best believe they sign off their emails with "Brad" and "Kat"...

u/I_C_Seashells 2d ago

Weirdly i used to work with someone called Claire and everytime she would introduce herself she would say "not the boring spelling, with a y instead of an i".

Then i worked on a project with her and she needed to provide her full name and home address for criminal record checks or something and she spelt it with an i. Turned out she'd been lying to everyone because she thought it made her more interesting and asked me to keep it a secret. Which i did.

Then the day came to start the project and we had to wear lanyards with our name and photo... oh dear..

5

u/pirate-private 2d ago

it's harmless but it's also sad, as it's a symptom of severe lack.

5

u/Chewbuddy13 1d ago

Dude, this. I have a regular spelled names. But my parents decided that I would be called by my middle name. My entire life in school every teacher called me by my first name at the begining, and I had to explain that I go by my middle name. Every single fucking form Ive ever had to fill out I had to use my first name, and people would use it and call me that. I'd have to explain I go by the middle name. Does anyone want to take a wild guess at how many fucking times I've had to have this same conversation with people. Probably at least 10,000 times. Don't do it. Just name your kid Ashley and not Ashleigh.

4

u/atwozmom 2d ago

My sister's name is odd since my mom made it up. She's had grief all her life as a result. (It's Alaine rather than Elaine).

3

u/Odd_Teach683 2d ago

Okay, Bawb.

3

u/Odd_Teach683 2d ago

It’s “Youneek”

2

u/trenthany 1d ago

U’neek is a shoe by Keen. Who will take bets that there are people with that name out there?

2

u/NegotiableVeracity9 1d ago

There's a backyardigan named Uniqua

1

u/FourEyedTroll 2d ago

But the fact you can't tell leads to the assumption of parental stupidity, before we even get into WHAT they named the child.

18

u/flat_dearther 2d ago

Clearly they meant to spell it "Colon".

4

u/trenthany 1d ago

ET went home.

Edit: I feel like people are going to miss the joke. It’s a joke about those being the letters between col- and -on in Coleton

2

u/NoEntrepreneur6668 1d ago

I mean, he has the asshole part down pat.

1

u/redalert825 11h ago

The "e" helps the dumbass parents pronounce it.

1

u/SaltyBarDog 3h ago

They meant to name him Colostomy.

9

u/electrodan 2d ago

Oh please Hayley, does Coleton Furlow sound like a real person? Grow up, it's me, Roger.

6

u/Robinsonirish 2d ago

In defense of Yanks as a European, Coleton is in my opinion, not tragedeigh. It seems like a normal name, spelled the way it's supposed to be pronounced. The problem for Yanks is that all their names are inherited, especially the black community, who were given slave names. The white population came from Europe, their names aren't really their own either.

The result is that they more than any other culture invent new names, and I think they need to, to form an American identity, that's not based on Europe or Africa. I used to make fun of names like Shenene, and LaRashonda growing up, until i realised why they do it. They'll sound funny initially, but there is logic to it. This also goes for white Americans.

Tragedeigh is adding extra letters to make a normal name sound more complicated. Coleton is not that. As far as inventing new names, Coleton is pretty solid. This is not condoning the words coming out of Coletons mouth, his name might be fine, but his brain is still scrambled.

2

u/ohhellperhaps 2d ago

> spelled the way it's supposed to be pronounced.

Do we know this for sure?

5

u/Robinsonirish 2d ago

Just say it out loud, It's straight forward. It's not like Kenneith instead of Kenneth.

0

u/ForAHamburgerToday 2d ago

In defense of Yanks

Why do you call everyone in America a Yankee? It's weird to me, living here, when I see that. To us, a yankee is someone in the Northeast of the US. Do you know how/why Europeans started using the word to refer to all Americans? To us it's like calling everyone in Britain a Midlander or calling everyone in Australia Sandgropers.

7

u/AmazingKreiderman 1d ago

Britain referred to the colonists as yankees (hence the song Yankee Doodle). Foreigners use it to describe all of the US, within the US southerners call northerners that, within the north it's even more specific to the northeast, etc.

3

u/Robinsonirish 2d ago

It's just a nickname. I did 3 combat tours in Afghanistan and 1 in Iraq, everyone called you Yanks, its very common in Europe. The Swedish term is Jänkare. Its not in any way derogatory. I think it started in military circles in ww2 or there abouts, then became common vernacular.

3

u/ForAHamburgerToday 2d ago

I think it started in military circles in ww2 or there abouts, then became common vernacular.

That would make sense.

Its not in any way derogatory

Not from y'all, sure, but it definitely is used in a derogatory sense sometimes here in America, especially in the South.

3

u/Robinsonirish 1d ago

I guess maybe that's why its not derogatory for us, because the south lost?

1

u/ForAHamburgerToday 1d ago

For sure, they did. It's just strange seeing it online. If you walked into my office and called someone a yankee, some people'd want to fight you for calling them something they aren't. Where you're from, are there also regional demonyms that people get defensive over/sensitive about?

2

u/CaptainFourpack 8h ago

Call a Scot 'English' and you will have some serious trouble

2

u/hereforthelearnings 2d ago

Coleton?

Did his parents lose a bet?

2

u/NegotiableVeracity9 1d ago

What if the emPHASSis is on the LE? coLETon?

182

u/Admirable-Sink-2622 2d ago

My God! The right is just a huge collection of absolute morons.

72

u/Extreme-Slice-1010 2d ago

Well Morons Are Governing America

13

u/chaseinger 2d ago

"governing"

9

u/Appleboy98 2d ago

I'm more partial to Grifting rather than Governing. It feels more accurate.

57

u/disharmony-hellride 2d ago

Republican humor is always dishonest

32

u/Neveronlyadream 2d ago

That's generally because it's not humor. It's right-wing virtue signaling and ranting.

There are a ton of videos on the subject, but most conservative comedians don't tell jokes. They go off on hateful, cliched rants and then pause for audience applause. There are no punchlines, there's no humor, it's just them standing up on a soapbox and being hateful.

They all love to use the "attack helicopter" and "my pronouns are kiss/my/ass" lines too. It's incestuous at this point.

3

u/Short-Holiday-4263 2d ago

"My pronouns are kiss/my/ass" is at least a joke response to being asked for your pronouns. Not a great one, but actually a joke for once... probably why they love using it and sharing it around.
It's exciting to come across rare things...

5

u/Neveronlyadream 2d ago

It's a joke, yeah. But in the context I keep seeing it in (it was Rob Schneider and Roseanne Barr's standup routines), no one asked. There was no setup. If I recall, both of them were, "Kids these days and their pronouns! My pronouns are kiss/my/ass!"

It comes across as their having to invent outrage for themselves to tell a joke that isn't a joke anymore.

2

u/teddy5 2d ago

To be fair, standup does require you to create your own setups and they're both known to be terrible standups. So that could just be a Rob Schneider and Roseanne Barr issue.

There are definitely less of them but there are some good right wing comedians as well as some which are probably right wing but keep their comedy fairly apolitical.

14

u/Pro-Patria-Mori 2d ago

No one is more obsessed with transsexuals than Republicans

9

u/Popplio3233 2d ago

Fork found in kitchen

3

u/Redfalconfox 2d ago

Morons and assholes

3

u/CatCafffffe 2d ago

Not just morons but a lot of very degenerate men who have trouble with the idea that other people are people

61

u/TheVoicesOfBrian 2d ago

Consent is a foreign concept to MAGA.

72

u/icleanjaxfl 2d ago

12

u/kinyutaka 2d ago

I mean, sometimes I wonder if our country is run by children.

17

u/ktrose68 2d ago

Idk man, I think we'd be a lot fucking cooler if the country was ran by children. I bet we'd have stuff like cars shaped like dinosaurs and public officials would wear superhero costumes, and every 3rd Tuesday would be princess day or something lol

3

u/riffingchaos 2d ago

Secession would be hysterical though. "My state will leave the union should we not have all fast food industries offer our chicken nuggets in the shape of dinosaurs!"

Granted, that's more or less the same base argument I listened to in Texas when I lived there.

3

u/ktrose68 2d ago

All wars are conducted via fortnight or Minecraft or Pokémon cards (I don't know what kids like anymore lol)

1

u/JustPlayDaGame 1d ago

fort definitely

3

u/kinyutaka 2d ago

Ask not what your nuggets can do for you, ask what you would do for some nuggets.

3

u/DarkKnightJin 2d ago

Costume Friday instead of Casual Friday? I dig it.

2

u/EvilAnno 2d ago

No, no the people in charge are running after children.

27

u/mattzombiedog 2d ago

To be fair it’s very much in keeping with how Trump is to force people to do something against their will…

17

u/Knighth77 2d ago

Don't expect the Guardians Of Pedophiles to relate to consent.

24

u/PloddingClot 2d ago

Lakes are people now?

17

u/TrulyOutrageous42 2d ago

Right, and they're ignoring the entire distinction between one person having the right to control their own identity vs multiple nations and 400+ years of history that one person is unilaterally changing for everyone.

Strangers don't have a right to have an opinion on your name. They do have a right to have input on a public piece of land that no one actually owns.

13

u/Admiralspandy 2d ago

So they're just admitting to seeing women as objects and not people.

11

u/Crow_First 2d ago

They’re ok with Vance renaming himself multiple times though

11

u/atwozmom 2d ago

also see Ted Cruz.

6

u/Crow_First 2d ago

And Nikki Haley

3

u/insanelygreat 2d ago

I'd prefer not to...

8

u/DebentureThyme 2d ago

Not much of a progressive if they deadname Jessica to people upon introducing her.

17

u/driftking428 2d ago

Do they not understand that trans people exist either way?

6

u/DarkKnightJin 2d ago

Oh no, they do.
They just also really wish trans people would quit that.

7

u/GaiusMarius60BC 2d ago

That tracks. Republicans don't care about consent except for themselves.

7

u/CptnHnryAvry 2d ago

AFBD. Assigned Female By Donnie.

11

u/NecessaryIntrinsic 2d ago

You voted for Trump? So you identify as a moron?

4

u/kinyutaka 2d ago

I asked Lake Ontario, it said that Trump can suck it.

3

u/DamionSipher 2d ago

I like to respond to people who push back against using preferred names/pronouns by calling them cunts, then asking if they like being addressed as cunt. They usually don't like it, but the symbolism is always lost on them.

3

u/IndependentFroyo4508 2d ago

Fucking lol at having the name Coleton

3

u/Electric_Antimony 2d ago

The Alt Right Playbook. Always attack. In this case it's to just use one of their short, quippy, and wrong retorts to trigger people's feelings over their rational brain.

3

u/ptowndeluxe 2d ago

If they can't respect others they've given up their right to have their own name respected.

Coleton Furlow can be Cocktone Bunghoe until he decides to respect others names/genders/etc. Goose meet Gander.

3

u/Cyn_Sweetwater 2d ago

Bigots like Coleton do not miss any opportunity to act out on their obsessions.

3

u/sloppyredditor 2d ago

Just start addressing Coleton as "Jessica" in every response.

Every. Response. Throw in a "smile more" or "you should wear a nice necklace with shirts like that" as a bonus.

He'll either get it or die willfully stupid.

2

u/AdvocateDoogy 2d ago

I hear some conservatives are trying to get the word "consent" erased from the dictionary.

2

u/kandoras 2d ago

Remember when Trump's 'grab them by the pussy' tape came out in 2016?

Here was Rush Limbaugh's opinion of it:

“If there is consent on both or all three or all four, however many are involved in the sex act, it’s perfectly fine," Limbaugh said. "Whatever it is. But if the left ever senses and smells that there’s no consent in part of the equation then here come the rape police. But consent is the magic key to the left."

1

u/JustPlayDaGame 1d ago

saying that like it’s a left “problem” is so funny to me

2

u/Responsible-Tip1725 2d ago

I would expect this from someone named Coleton

2

u/Merijeek2 2d ago

There was a time when seeing an American flag in the background didn't guarantee you were a complete fuckwit.

2

u/DRUGMUSIC_ 2d ago

maybe we should talk about the lake actually losing ice cover over the years, now that it is to our attention.

2

u/queuedUp 2d ago

Sometimes I legitimately don't know if they are just playing stupid to avoid looking blatantly homophobic, racist, misogynistic, etc or if they are actually this fucking dumb

2

u/Glum-Welder1704 2d ago

Consent from whom? We all can call things whatever we want. Whether people will go along is another question.

2

u/Random-num-451284813 2d ago

Also Coleton: "There is nothing wrong with raping children"

2

u/QuietObserver75 1d ago

Pointing out JD Vance's multiple name changes is right there.

1

u/Senior_Torte519 2d ago

A person so bad their last named didnt even sticked around for the two weeks.

1

u/hinterstoisser 2d ago

Literacy and common sense isn’t a trait in the MaGA crowd.

Sometimes it’s better to shut up and let people think you’re a fool than opening your mouth and proving them right

1

u/Grand_Taste_8737 2d ago

Fair enough

1

u/Zerobeastly 2d ago

Consent is a concept they've never been able to grasp.

1

u/Hot-Guard-9119 2d ago

Lake can consent?

1

u/woodrax 2d ago

These right wing fuckheads never say ANYTHING in good faith. Ever.

1

u/deetman68 2d ago

They REALLY don’t understand equivalency AT ALL, do they.

1

u/saxguy9345 2d ago

That tweet slaps if you're stupid af

1

u/wytedevil 2d ago

they sure do love the apples to orange arguments don't they?

1

u/R9D11 2d ago

Good Luck trying to explain the concept of consent to a MAGA.

1

u/callMeBorgiepls 2d ago

Its a fucking lake people call ot whatever you want. Ill now start calling it Lake Borgie just to spite yall

1

u/i010011010 2d ago

So I guess he has spent his entire adult life ordering "freedom fries" no matter what weird looks it receives.

1

u/Justaredditor85 2d ago

Once again the concept of consent eludes them.

1

u/Renbarre 2d ago

The name changes when you cross the border.

1

u/natholemewIII 2d ago

The issue also isnt that he can't rename it. Landmarks get renamed fairly often. It's just that his reasons for doing so and the name he chose are stupid. Like, he already named one body of water "America". It's like it's the only name he can think of for things. Also, it comes off as a petty toddler move to rename the lake because Canada made him mad.

1

u/4point5billion45 2d ago

If the lake somehow communicated they wanted to be called Moolamoola, I would do so.

1

u/Budsygus 2d ago

Same argument works in reverse. If Trump is allowed to rename a lake, why can't a person rename themselves?

1

u/EndlessStars99 1d ago

MAGA and Republicans don't know what consent means

1

u/Vivid-Pension 1d ago

Many of them do understand consent. They just have a rapist mentality.

1

u/bigvicproton 1d ago

JD Vance is completely made up.

1

u/Damnesia13 13h ago

Shouldn’t it be “Jessica as Steve against her will”?

1

u/POKEMINER_ 2d ago

How's a lake supposed to 'identify' as anything? It's a lake.

6

u/Brook420 2d ago

Thats the point...

1

u/Hot-Guard-9119 2d ago

No, it's not. The reply brought up consent, not the op. It was a terrible gotcha. You can acknowledge it was a terrible reply, you don't have to go along with everything just because you both don't like the same guy.

0

u/jmeq404 2d ago

Who got to name it Lake Ontario? I don't want to change it, and this whole thing is stupid. However it was named by someone, so why do they get to choose? Did the lake consent to being named that?

3

u/SakeWad 2d ago

The name dates to the 17th century. "Ontario" comes from an Indigenous term, the Iroquoian word "oniatarí," meaning "lake of shining waters."

It's been Lake Ontario for hundreds of years and nobody was asking for it to be changed until Trump, who did so in a childlike tantrum to annoy Canadians (since they have a province also named Ontario).

-1

u/DrNoxin 2d ago

Why do American Liberals feel the need to respond to every single stupid thing that your fascist party says and does? Have you all heard the saying "don't feel the trolls?" The whole point of all of this is your reactions. That's it. By entertaining them, you are giving them exactly what they want. Change the subject to your pedophile president driving up fuel prices and starting WWIII, much more relevant topics.

4

u/Brook420 2d ago

You can point out their misinformation AND turn the conversation to why Trump still refuses to release all the epstein files.

2

u/Choppers-Top-Hat 2d ago

Have you all heard the saying "don't feel the trolls?"

Yeah, that was pretty much Hillary Clinton's campaign strategy. Remind me how that turned out?

1

u/DrNoxin 18h ago

Democrats, in a way created Trump... thought he couldn't win, so, promoted him in the primary.

-25

u/Stairwayunicorn 2d ago

All identities are illusions

18

u/ctothel 2d ago

That doesn’t make them matter less to the individual.

15

u/Tiberius_Kilgore 2d ago

Save it for your philosophy 101 class.

6

u/JakeDC 2d ago

You think you sound deep, but you don't. I promise.

2

u/FlutterKree 2d ago

You've confused the word construct with illusion.

1

u/Bearence 2d ago

No they aren't.

-27

u/Bo_Jim 2d ago

When did the lake choose to identify as Lake Ontario?

It seems to me that a country has the right to choose the name of any territory within it's borders, and change that name anytime it chooses.

Lake Ontario/Lake America is not the only body of water that borders more than one country, and which has a different name in each country. The Rio Grande river, for example, is called the Rio Bravo in Mexico. The sea separating the Korean peninsula and Japan is known as the East Sea in both North and South Korea, while Japan calls it the Sea of Japan.

I don't think Trump is doing this out of any sense of national pride. I think he's doing it because he knows how much it infuriates the people who hate him. He's trolling them.

30

u/laserpewpewAK 2d ago

George Washington (yes, seriously) personally signed the treaty that made the name "Ontario" official. It doesn't really get more patriotic than that. We know he's doing it to troll, and it's pathetic.

-17

u/binarybandit 2d ago

Can you remind us why were supposed to care what a slave owning bro from 250 years ago says?

28

u/laserpewpewAK 2d ago

Lots to unpack here, but the short answer is: because we signed a treaty with 6 other nations guaranteeing we would honor the name. It used to be that people cared about keeping their word.

23

u/IAmTheBredman 2d ago

Would you prefer listening to the convicted felon who also happens to be a racist pedophile?

5

u/Brook420 2d ago

So you don't believe in the 2nd amendment?

3

u/DenverNugs 2d ago

were

you sure about that?

13

u/IAmTheBredman 2d ago

Your best defence of the racist, criminal, pedophile is that he’s trolling the haters? That’s what you think a president should be spending time on? Lake Ontario was named by the indigenous people here and is where the province got its name. Cheeto man doesn’t get to look at a map and colour in whatever he wants and make the world follow it.

-1

u/Hot-Guard-9119 2d ago

It's funny that none of you actually addressed or rebuked what he said. Yes, he's trolling, it's obvious to everyone why he did it. Why do you think it's a defence? If anything, the comment calls out Trump for not doing it for patriotic reasons.

But you dare to disagree with the hive mind, and you immediately get downvotes. Reddit is so silly.

3

u/kandoras 2d ago

It's funny that none of you actually addressed or rebuked what he said.

Funnier still is you ignoring the guy that pointed out how the US signed a treaty agreeing to name it Lake Ontario.

0

u/Hot-Guard-9119 1d ago

And that's addressing which part? That guy never questioned the origins of the name, he said the country can name it whatever it wants because they have a right to do so.

5

u/Chpgmr 2d ago

Trump doesnt actually care enough about anyone to troll them anymore, he only cares about himself and enriching himself. He is just doing these types of things because he doesnt know how to act like an adult.

3

u/Brook420 2d ago

It's just another distraction to keep ppl from bringing up how he's destroying the country and defending pedophiles.

1

u/WomenRocktheWOrld 3h ago

Hey this white woman is now black. Let her have a scholarship from the NCAAP and if you don't refer to her as black you are bigot.

Liberals that racists.

Also liberals

Steve is now Eve and should be allowed in the same locker rooms as little girls. Win women athletic competitions. And walk around naked in a women's spa. And if you don't agree you are a bigot.
