In a way it's good because people don't need to speak a common language to interact on Reddit. Like the Babel Fish in the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it breaks down barriers of communication (but Reddit auto translation probably doesn't cause more and bloodier wars than anything else in history)
In another way it's bad because translation isn't an exact science and sometimes the meaning is lost, or a subtle bit of wordplay doesn't carry over.
I'm guessing there's a setting to disable automatic translation, but I've been too lazy to look for it.

I think I'd much prefer it if the original language was still presented, and the translation was just added below it. It needs to be VERY clear it's a translation, and frankly, it's cool to be talking across language barriers, so they shouldn't hide it.

The worst I saw of this was at a gravel race in Colorado - a trans woman won her age group in the second-longest event, and none of the other women showed up for the 3 buckets overturned "medal ceremony" because they were too busy getting showers and going out to dinner. Oh, and she came in an hour later than the podium for the "women's open" category. So she was a fast woman recreational rider at an overwhelmingly recreational rider event at a podunk town in Colorado.
It made national news. She got HAMMERED on Fox and every other right wing outlet. The chuds showed up in force on her socials and on the ride's insta and facebook. Second place in the women's race had to make an appearance - because she got badgered too - to say she didn't "boycott" the medal presentation, if she had known about it she would have shown, and congrats to the age group winner.
She had to delete her social presence over an age-grouper result.

As a casual (overseas) observer of the current, and unbounded US political dismantling of your democracy, I have a question for those in the US:
Why are such a large number of people there so vehemently aggressive towards those in your own country, that hold (potentially) valid criticism against your President?
It’s almost cult-like, or Neo-Fascist protectionism against anyone that criticises, discusses, or even holds an alternate political view to Trump’s Politics.
I might even go so far as to describe it as a “Dear Father, or Dear Leader…” following.
