The arguments against this post are crazy. The goodwill created by usaid was immeasurable but more importantly it helped people around the world. This is not a liberal vs maga much like everything else that is only used to divide Americans. Wake up and realize that people who cut oversight, foreign and domestic aid do it for one reason and it’s not to your benefit.

2

u/HotPersonality8126 Aug 13 '26

Ā  The goodwill created by usaid was immeasurable

If you can’t measure it you can’t really argue we were getting it. The largest USAID recipients were also holding protests at our embassies that killed Americans.

1

u/greennurse61 24d ago

Huh? Those are the people we need to help the most to change their minds. The pallets of cash Obama sent to Iran improved their view of us. It was simple. Write a check and they hate us less.Ā

1

u/Monterenbas Aug 13 '26

Any « good will » that the US might have gain with those tens of billions spent in USAID was canceled by their support to Israe, wich is what people truly care about apparently.

If people were truly grateful to the US, they did a pretty bad job at showing it.

1

u/Jalapenoplanter 29d ago

What gratitude would you have liked to see?

1

u/Monterenbas 28d ago

The kind your supposed to show, if you believe that USAID was genuily life saving. Wich obviously wasn’t the case, so all good.

1

u/Jalapenoplanter 28d ago

What does that look like as directed at you?

1

u/Monterenbas 28d ago

Not siding with the US adversary on UN votes , for example.

Wich, while perfectely legitimate in itself, I’m sure you can appreciate how that would clash with the stated goal of getting financial aid from the US.

The "predictions" that the articles are based on papers that are heavily correlations, and worked from the assumption that everything went through and also ignored any changes and adaptations that would happen with changes

This is without going into the fact that USAID is not even the only organ handling foreign aid, plenty is handled by other agencies, and plenty has not actually passed the floor since DOGE was in an advisory role and politicians still need to actually vote through it. Things were dismantled, but generally plenty of things they wanted required going through voting

You know what actually caused loss of goodwill? Propaganda posts like the OP that are spreading said papers that did the aforementioned non-scientic papers that exaggerated and chose to not even do the methodology correctly, along with the news media that reported it without even trying to critique it.

1

u/Terrible-Actuary-762 29d ago

So basically "I hate Trump" Leftist propaganda.

1

u/Efrath 29d ago

Pretty much. There's valid concerns and criticisms that can be made against USAID cuts, but the papers that the "Elon killed millions" is based on pretty much just took all the extremes, ignored potential adaptations and shifts and then tried to present it as "fact".

1

u/SpreadsheetsOnToast 29d ago

For real. The literal first sentence of this video is a blatant lie.

1

u/Dmau27 29d ago

I think people feel our country is suffering but they miss that there's enough money to go around. There's just greed.

1

u/Terrible-Actuary-762 29d ago

Quite a few of those programs were slush funds for democrats. Others didn't help any one in the long term, it only created dependents. Feed a man a fish vs teach a man to fish.

1

u/Jalapenoplanter 29d ago

Which programs specifically are you talking about?

1

u/Snoo36868 28d ago

Why does the US needs to pay for it though?

1

u/Desperate_World_2801 27d ago

The good will it created by briging goverments and founding NGOs.

He has a trans daughter, Vivian. And he’s disowned her. So, not sure if he’d ever care….

5

u/omniverso Aug 12 '26

Im depressed enough as it is but this made me wonder just how many COVID deaths can be directly attributed to Trumps misinformation campaigns that have circled back to hypocrisy and pointing blame at Fauci.

2

u/Top-Strength-2701 Aug 13 '26

The deaths Trump has caused most be closer to millions now.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Agitated_Newt_7655 28d ago

It’s best measured in the per capita death rate difference across Republican states compared to Democrat areas. It’s not ideal as cities were more likely to have the virus spread and rural areas were less likely to have access to a hospital. Still rural areas died more per capita.

2

u/muffledvoice Aug 13 '26

They’re counting on people not caring since they don’t know those who died personally.

2

u/Patient-Fruit-2946 Aug 13 '26

You could image that US wants to get rid of all people in need for food, shelter or health care.

4

u/heretorobwallst Aug 12 '26

Musk is responsible for more deaths than his idol, Hitler

4

u/PositiveRainCloud Aug 12 '26

Elon is an immigrant, who came to the US ILLEGALLY btw. Yet MAGA think he's the best thing since sliced bread. Disgusting.

0

u/Onsideginger68 Aug 13 '26

Who told you he came illegally?

2

u/Lejandario_IN Aug 13 '26

Kimal Musk, his brother. Didn't come illegally but were working illegally.

That is still the same situation immigrants face and are carted off by ICE

USAID has proven links to the CIA, it's a way to keep these countries poor and under control. If the US and Americans cared, they would help these countries MAKE their own medicines. It would be safer and help infinitely more lives, the US would BUILD a medicine factory in these countries if they cared. They WOULD TRAIN DOCTOR'S if they cared, they WOULD PURIFY WATER AND HELP WITH SANITATION if they cared

But helping people become self sufficient isn't profitable or gives the US any power, and thus in not their interests.

No send food and medicine for all eternity so those countries never develop their own industrial base, why would they? The US feeds and clothes them after all.

And the US loves that.

And I say this as someone from a poor country. There is a reason Africa is turning towards China, the Chinese don't come with pamphlet or free food, they come with bridges and factories

1

u/Youri1980 Aug 13 '26

That's some mind bending

1

u/mandrogd53 Aug 13 '26

In typical NGO fashion, the numbers here are wildly inflated. I worked in international development for ten years.

1

u/DoctorSwaggercat Aug 13 '26

Maybe if y'all didn't grift the program so badly.....

1

u/HotPersonality8126 Aug 13 '26

Sure, if you count people projected to die in the future (I don’t.)

1

u/LukeWarmIQpool Aug 13 '26

lol this is such a blatant lie

1

u/Fast_Worldliness_370 Aug 13 '26

This is, of course, not true.

1

u/Efrath Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

First, Elon and the others were in an ADVISORY ROLE, they made no decisions

Second, most of the suggestions didn't even happen because they didn't get voted through.

Third, USAID is not alone in handling foreign aid, and depending on how useful or not it is, it can be changed and transferred to other agencies. Which has been happening.

Fourth, anyone can make up numbers. Much of the "papers" are extremely correlational and the "data" didn't even use the REAL changes for their predictions, they just blindly assumed everything would be removed while also ignoring changes and adaptations that generally happens when government changes in structure and funding happen.

1

u/Borkdadork Aug 13 '26

Why would we pay to save someone from a different country, when we have people dying in our own country? Don’t get me wrong, we should save everyone from dying. Whats the cost to prevent every person from dying? Another thought, why spend money on one of the kids outlined in the video, when there is a million kids behind him or her? At what point is enough?

1

u/Hogsrunwild 29d ago

ā€œWe know that numberā€ā€¦no you don’t. Because the number is bullshit

1

u/nieze-veger 29d ago

I used to be more in favour of foreign aid. In 2024 it was 85 billion. 85B : 175m workers is 500 bucks a year. Got to much to repair at home. Same goes for militairy spending etc. Times are changing.

1

u/Libssuck69 29d ago

Bullshit!

1

u/nLedd 29d ago

They aren't American deaths, so they don't care.

1

u/Individual_Box_728 29d ago

Shouldn’t have waisted so much. Why should we pay for it?

1

u/That_Phony_King 25d ago

How much of the US budget do you think was allocated to USAID exactly? I'll tell you: less than 1%.

1

u/Individual_Box_728 25d ago

Should be 0.000000000000000000000000%

1

u/Significant-Eye3720 29d ago

USAID was funding terrorists and warlords. Very little of the cash flowing through USAID actually got to anyone who needed help.

1

u/Additional_Mud_1463 29d ago

If it costs 12 cents per day, why can't Sudan pay for the medicine? This is such low IQ ragebait. If it's so cheap that it costs almost nothing, why must the USA pay for it? If it's nothing, why doesn't their own country pay?

1

u/sjolundtorbjorn 29d ago

I do not want my tax money to be going towards any other person of any other country. We have enough people here in this country that need our financial help we should not be helping other countries at all PERIOD

1

u/Neno_6969 29d ago

Only when the barrel gets to them they care

1

u/ResponsibleClock9289 29d ago

This is such a stupid way to attribute deaths

So not funding something means you’re responsible for the deaths? Guess every Redditor here is just as responsible

1

u/ragubearr 29d ago

Much of this relies on bad statistical data about "millions" dying, an example is the NPR and new yorker articles relying on that dubious study by the lanclet and other studies which are not that rigorous either.

1

u/Alarming_Local_315 29d ago

So how many matter to you?

1

u/ragubearr 28d ago

They all do, and I feel terrible about anyone suffering. However the data relied on to make these massive claims are false and misleading. The moral seriousness of children's deaths are not calls to lower our evidential burden, we need accurate and reliable data so we can determine what to do next.

1

u/QuestionablePersonx 29d ago

USAID cut, Democrat Party ran out of money to operate so they had to put up its HQ in DC as collateral. Coincidence??

1

u/Mercer34 29d ago

Womp womp I could not care less about a bunch of leeches dying when we can't even take care of our own people.

1

u/moozootookoo 29d ago

They didn’t die because of USA, they just weren’t helped, big difference.

For the record I liked when we helped less fortunate people around the world.

Let’s hope other countries step it up.

1

u/Popular_Tie4688 29d ago

We lost over a million grandpa's, Memaw's uncles and aunts to covid and most of america was pissed it missed a few haircuts. I think you are taking the wrong tack.

1

u/Ok-Present-8619 29d ago

Theres a thin line between zero feelings and public rage.

I think it was like "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic"

1

u/lonelydadtravels 29d ago

*CORRECTION:

Aid cuts didn't kill anyone, living in a system run by profits did.

1

u/Jerry-SLG 29d ago

Guys it's imperative that the country drowning in trillions of debt spend gorillions on people on the otherside of the globe.

1

u/justforlaughs999 29d ago

Why are we paying for medicines in other countries??? Charity begins at home

1

u/snakesandsparklers40 29d ago

If its only 12 cents a day then pay for it. $43 a year step up fool. Also world's richest country that would be China. I never understood why people like this expect America to foot the bill for every country. Why should America almost fully fund the WHO. Some would say its not America's fault they died how about the other countries that didnt step up and pay more when America cut funding. You're saying nothing beneficial. Sitting there like a smug moron

1

u/Sad-Wonder6273 29d ago

The gravest cruelty is when your own Country does not help you out, because the resources are being depleted all around the world. And so, the shithole Countries that are not helping their own Citizens cannot be excused just because someone else has the money to solve the problems they don't care to deal with. What about forcing all Countries of the world to stop wasting money in bullshit crap and helping their own Peoples?

1

u/Large-Shake6556 29d ago

If the government has enough money to send overseas they are taxing us too much we are not everyone's sugardaddy

1

u/Outrageous-Essay2183 29d ago

Dude. Why is it the responsibility of the United States tax payer. We have so many problems here at home in every city and community. It’s our job to fix our country. It’s their job to fix theirs. We can’t be a charity bank for the entire world.

1

u/bigdig-_- 29d ago

"not saving people is the same as directly killing them"

1

u/Expensive-Gene-8242 28d ago

I don’t get it .. why not their country support them ? Why does American tax dollars need to pay for another’s shit? Do we have a lot of money to pay for others when we have much need ?Ā

1

u/Expensive-Gene-8242 28d ago

There are many scams involving USAId too .Ā

1

u/Fit-Click3323 28d ago

How many people have died directly due to the use of your phone, computer, microphone, glasses, shirt, your lights etc... tell me...

1

u/Unhappy-Exchange-771 28d ago

So US is responsible for other countries citizens ? Stop shedding these crocodiles tears for views or to make yourselves feel like you’ve done a days of honest work.

You want to complain about govt waste in other sectors I’ll be right there with you, but in that same thread our money should be going to help American people only; not handouts to other countries.

1

u/AggravatingMain7720 28d ago

Who cares? Fu k giving other countries our tax dollars.

1

u/Over-Reputation4652 28d ago

why are American tax payers paying for the healthcare of inferior civilizations that serve no purpose to us when we have millions of homeless drug addicts?

1

u/leeretarmy 28d ago

We are how many trillions of dollars in debt. We should take care of our own before trying to save the world.

1

u/Important-Estate-904 27d ago

I wasn’t aware America was obligated to keep propagating the population of Africa.

1

u/duffleberry 27d ago edited 27d ago

US taxpayers have given over 130 billion dollars to Africa.

Sub-saharan Africa received about a third of our aid and the extreme poverty rate is still approaching 50%. I think the abhorrent results speak for themselves.

I also think your average American scratches their head at the obscene amount of aid we give out to other nations and wonders why they're expected to subsidize the rest of the world, including countries whom US citizens have practically no allegiance to or affiliation with.

1

u/butt-in-ski 27d ago

Most ppl have fallen into apathy or strict ā€œAmerica firstā€ position (which I don’t entirely disagree with) BUT USAID is what is referred to as soft diplomacy - programs like this keep us & the world safer.

1

u/Fendyyyyyy 27d ago

I'll be honest in theory the usa paying for another country is nice bit its not an obligation of any kind. However those cuts didnt do shit aside from Killing those people. Thats insanely wrong.

However it does speak volume about the people making those decisions.. but we already know..

1

u/Desperate_World_2801 27d ago

I don't know who's dumber:

  1. American conservatives who think USAID is just spending money for no reason
  2. American liberals who think USAID exists just to selflessly help people in need

1

u/softwareidentity 27d ago

so, if you want to kill brown people, it's actually cheaper to cut USAid than funding israel?

1

This is another leftwing lie, number one, the staff for USAID was way to big, a lot of them admitted going to work and sat around. Number two, 90 % of the money was not going to the purchasing of food, it was going into the pockets of beurocrats, it was a slush fund for the democratic party. Read into it before jumping to conclustions!!!

1

NBC set up by 20 30/400,000,000 people will die. People are literally dying in the streets but notice the white people don't be caring. I've never heard one white person complain about USA being destroyed. Not one. It's the African-Americans in the US that are standing up to Trump. We are standing up to him. We are standing up so hard. We will shake the very foundations of the White House and the missing East Wing. Destroying the East wing was morally wrong because he was told not to do it. The head of the committee Corey Booker said he had clear communication with the president, but the president intentionally destroyed it because a black man told him what to do. He destroyed part of the lighthouse because a black man said don't destroy it.Ā
