This is a fantastic take. As has been said so many ways today, hating people because of their religion or skin does a disservice to all who were lost that day.
14
u/JSlickJ 12h ago
It's a take that somehow isn't the standard because that's literally what one of the primary goals for terrorism. To invoke fear against the target, and make a threat be perceived as larger than it really is. If you start to fear and hate all muslims you're just giving in to the terrorism

u/Amathyst7564 8h ago
Religion is an idealogy. And no ideology should be above criticism.
Otherwise every terrible ideology can just start calling itself a religion and be above criticism.
Islam is backwards. Mamadani is a great man despite his ideology much like Christian maga being terrible despite Jesus being a socialist hippie.

It's mental to see how much people shit on him for what religion he got. What's mental2 how many Jewish people shit on him.
I'm not American but he seems to be doing things just for making NY better. Small things like the snow plowing, but also bigger things like food for kids in education.
And no matter what he does, people have the need to shit on him. They rather have some israeli extremist that saddles the city with debt and no improvements?

Hating people because of their religion is perfectly rational when their religion sucks. It's why I hate people in the Westboro Baptist Church. Not really sure how the religious conned everyone into thinking their ideologies are beyond reproach and that the people who believe it, even if it's heinous, should not be blamed, but I hate it.
6
u/thetatershaveeyes 13h ago
Right, so hating Mamdani because he's a Muslim is a totally rational take according to you. If you hate anyone, hate them because of their words and actions, not which version of sky daddy they follow. The WBC is awful because they are a group dedicated to extremist hate, not because of their religion, because most people who follow it are perfectly normal human beings.

It does suck that some people never make it out of these narrow minded circles.
My wife is from the middle of nowhere and didnât really have political preferences until college, at which point she was able to see the world outside of where she grew up. The people that never made it out of her small town developed different political ideologies. Iâll leave it to you to guess which is which.
Thereâs a lot of power in indoctrination, and it does take critical thinking to break it, but itâs hard to think critically about the world if you never see it.

You're never going to convince conservatives to be anything but trash. If they've taught us anything it's that they have no bottom and will always go lower.
You just have to come together and do whatever is necessary to vote them out of power so their bigoted, low IQ opinions don't become mainstream. We haven't been doing a good job of that. Hopefully we start come November.

Al Qaeda kinda did win too though. The leader was removed from the most wanted list, placed in charge of Syria and just recently visited the White House. There's no good guy, bad guy when it involves America. There's only bad guy until he can benefit the US government.
Edit: The "well technically he wasn't al qaeda, he just tried to kill our soldiers" arguments from Americans is amusing.

NYC won but America lost. Osama bin Ladens stated goal was to be âthe fly that drives the horse off a cliffâ. Mission accomplished. Between the Patriot act, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the uptick in racism, heck even the installation of flock cameras, it can all be traced back to us losing our collective minds on that day. America was already on life support before that happened and I fully believe that was the last nail in the coffin.Â

That's well said, and very accurate. Most Muslim folks would condemn the violence of 9/11. Religions all just want people to live in peace, don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise, they only seek to co-opt your religion for their own selfish motives.

This is ridiculous. Am Canadian, grew up in the 70s in the tail of the Vietnam War. Americans just hit $40 trillion national debt because the multinational corporate class took over the media back in the 80s.
Bin Laden never took credit for 9/11 and Americans blanket blaming Muslims was stupid in 2001 and it's still stupid today. The only winners from 9/11 was the corporate class who has spent the last 25 years turning western countries into police states.

Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, in terms of geopolitics, the United States has been the world's primary perpetrator of state-sponsored terrorism.
The dominant perspective that characterizes militancy in the Middle East or Global South as an abstract animosity towards "freedom." Instead, I contended that what the West designates as "terrorism" is predominantly a justified, defensive action within asymmetric warfare employed by indigenous populations resisting ruinous U.S. military incursions and systematic occupation of their territories.
It is a unique historical reality that the United States is the only nation in human history to have used nuclear weapons, resulting in the destruction of entire civilian populations through state action. and a deliberate, massacre of civilians and recurring structural approach where the U.S. regards foreign leaders and proxy forces as entirely expendable resources.
This includes figures such as Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi, and Osama bin Laden (The so-called islamists) Excluding the numerous leaders from South America and Africa, these individuals were heavily supported, armed, or accommodated when they align with U.S. corporate or geopolitical interests, only to be systematically demonized, pursued, or eliminated once their usefulness ends.

Unfortunately, there are two ways to look at this. Yes, we have a Muslim mayor of New York, but a third of the country is now strictly anti 2/3 of the country because they are not the way that 1/3 wants them to be. That was Osama's vision for the US. He has well exceeded his goal. He didnt have to win. We are splitting ourselves up.

1
u/BicFleetwood 14h ago edited 14h ago
I mean, that wasn't Bin Laden's goal.
Bin Laden's goal was to trigger a US overreaction that over the following years would stretch its resources and power to the limit and cause the slow degradation and collapse of its interventionist imperial presence across the globe under the weight of its own vengeful ambitions.
He was more or less taking an accelerationist approach with the understanding--particularly having witnessed the fall of the USSR under similar circumstances with its own war in Afghanistan--that an imperial project cannot survive its own retaliatory nature even if in the immediate term its strength seems mighty. And with rising Eastern powers (namely China and India) becoming similar economic and military rivals to the US as the US was to the USSR during the Cold War, all it would really take to collapse US global presence over time is to draw it into a long-term, ambiguously-defined and ultimately unwinnable conflagration that its rival states remain neutral on and relatively untouched by.
Bin Laden didn't wake up one morning and say to himself "damn, I hate freedom and their way of life." He had material goals with the act which frankly he achieved. The goal was to draw the US into signing a check it couldn't cash. Which we did. The US' only winning move would have been to remain calm and rebuild. Instead, we behaved exactly as he meant us to. We took the bait.

Yeah, we may have killed Bin Laden, maybe we even defeated al qaeda (an arguable point), but it looks more and more likely that Al Qaedaâs strategic goals are exactly what will come out of this quarter century misadventure
