The petition you mention was open to anyone in the world to sign online. It wasn't exclusive to Americans, new Yorkers, or 9/11 families.
So here's a couple of questions:
1st, Had he NOT gone, would the major conservative media be MORE likely to highlight the petition? Or demonize him for not attending?
2nd, if another polarizing figure (like Trump for example) was subject to a petition to not go somewhere, wouldn't you expect them to say "Eff that, I'm definitely going in spite of my critics"? That's just politics.

Average american can barely even read 6th grade level, one medical emergency and you are in dept for life, you have no safety nets, no universal child care and women don't even have right to their own bodies.
