Ive been a nurse for 18+ years and when I had to do an abdominal pressure reading and hadn’t done one in years, I looked it up! You can’t remember everything, damn. I’d rather look at a video and be 100% sure than pretty sure and potentially mess something up

I work CVICU now and I’m constantly double-checking. Those super confident nurses always make me nervous! I’m on the other side right now because I’m super pregnant and keep getting admitted for stuff and I love it when I hear my nurses and doctors talking stuff out loud and asking questions and double checking with each other.

especially great, because so much of the knowledge there is "was not tested in pregnant people" so there are huge gaps.

"Please talk with your healthcare professional if you are pregnant or breastfeeding" at this point they know about as much as you because clinical trials don't touch anyone pregnant or breastfeeding.

I would double check for everything as a nurse, though I would usually hide in the supply room so I didnt inspire fear in my patients.

Some procedures just aren't particularly common, so even though you learned it in school or do it professionally it could possibly be months between doing it so you just want to be 200% when you're doing it on a person. Sometimes you've done it a million times but the stock room hands you a different brand of kit and you don't want to be reading the instructions while the patient is spread eagle or something.

Just because a baker has been baking bread for 40 years doesnt mean they dont want to glance at a recipe before they make cookies.

It helps check for compartment syndrome, basically seeing if there’s pressure buildup in the abdomen by using the patient’s urinary catheter and instilling saline and measuring on a pressure line

Im a nurse, so Im not allowed to poke with the giant needle. Only little needles or blunt tubes into holes

Once we got it all set up I remembered doing it before and it was easy peasy. Much better than CBI and a much lower percentage of getting bloody pee everywhere
