My doctor fully googled what to look for on my blood test and in the moment I was weirded out. When I got back in the car and thought about it, I realized how many patients they must see who all have different things wrong with them. They can't be expected to remember all of that. They are still just people.

Doc here, we have peer-reviewed and vetted medical databases, the use of which requires you to be a licensed physician and pay for access. We don't use Google and ChatGPT to put together a treatment plan.

Do the databases give probability of certain conditions based on patients blood tests?

Not exactly. Services like up to date are basically like a medical encyclopedia with lit review entries for various conditions or phenomena, with links to studies about them, standard treatments, what type of further testing to order, and so on.

There's a newer AI feature but I haven't used it personally.

Even if you did. Informed, specific questions with a strong educational and clinical background yield very different results than a layman typing a few symptoms into google and tunneling in on the first thing they read.

I watched my GP type "calculate amoxicyllin dose for 11kg infant" and copy paste the answer into the prescription... Needless to say I did not get that script filled lol (also based on second opinions). I know that the databases for that stuff are easy to use. Why did they feel the need to put it through a linear algebra machine?

I swear my doctor pulls up Google to have it ready to go before she even pulls up my medical chart. If they didn't need to lock their computers, im sure google would already be on the screen the moment I walk in.
