Some of you people are morons. You think because she is looking up stuff on the YouTube it's bad? Sometimes we don't do certain procedures regularly, or sometimes we wanna confirm what we are looking at with videos over images. There are lots of reasons YouTube is great. As an anesthesiologist, some of my resources have videos on YouTube to show up nerve blocks that we may be rusty at and wanna confirm the right planes for local, or awake intubation techniques that may not do regularly. I've seen surgeons be told how to do surgery by reps cause they are unfamiliar of the equipment they are using on people. So again, if you have a problem with someone doing this, you are a fking idiot

I’m just a random guy but to me it’s like I’d rather see a doctor searching and trying to learn than a doctor who assumes they always know and is arrogant. The idea of a doctor needing to YouTube what to do like how I would YouTube how to replace an alternator when I have zero car knowledge is funny but again I have zero car knowledge where a doctor already has anatomical knowledge so it’s just common sense to me that a doctor might need to brush up or might need to learn something in the moment and YouTube is a great resource for that in all kinds of fields. This is just dumb lol

I’d much rather have an unsure doctor confirm with google or YouTube using credible sources treat me, than have an overconfident one who ends up being wrong & costing me my health

My nephrologist is smart as shit - also went for pharmacology - but he’s old & is a popular doctor among our kidney community. So yea man, if he’s unsure about an aspect about something we’re talking about than by all means doc, use the tools at your disposal. Just don’t use AI for the love of god

I think people have the (wrong) impression that there is no value added to a doctor if the doctor has to look it up himself. However, a large part of doctor’s training is to use these references more efficiently. Just because you saw a surgery on YouTube doesn’t mean you can perform it. To actually do the job you need a ton of experience.

I’m a tech in a hospital, I often get mistaken for a doctor because everyone is often wearing the same scrubs. I’ve learned to announce my role when I greet patients so no one gets confused.

I will have to search for pictures of splint types if a doctor orders an obscure one just to confirm I know how to make it.

And honestly, most of my learning has been on the job and through other people. Medicine, Science, and Pathophysiology are incredibly complex topics and school does not prepare you for everything.

Because I am going into crippling debt to be told I can't afford to finish treatment while I'm watching a doctor look shit up on youtube.

If you can't understand why it's a dystopian nightmare to see your medical practitioner using the same website that lets freaky adults put subliminal messages on kids' channels to remind themselves of some little thing they need to do or remember, then maybe you need to go back to school.

I've had a nurse try to give my wife opiates LITERAL SECONDS after I told her she was deathly allergic to opiates. Anyone can buy/fake their way through a degree.

You are missing the point.

Healthcare is so prohibitively expensive because the people who go into healthcare spend a lot of time and MONEY training and learning.

So when you and I walk into the hospital we get a massive bill, so that those who took out loans or spent a ton of money to get their healthcare degree can make enough back to justify it.

So going in to a hospital, I’m expecting to pay the highest health care costs in the world, in order to be see by the doctors and nurses who have the highest healthcare educations in the world.

If I see my doctor pulling up YouTube, I’m wondering why Im spending all of this fucking money for YouTube.

I would gladly spend 1/10th of the cost and go to a place that uses YouTube.

But I’m not paying ‘highest developed country in the world prices’ for YouTube university care.

I don't have a problem with people doing this, but hopefully the docs that do this have common sense to recognize when something they are watching is not the optimal way to do a procedure.
