Also pediatric icu doc and a pretty darn good one too. I check, recheck and check again with as many sources before I do or teach.

I work in a medical lab and doctors like you are my favorite to talk to. Whenever a provider asks for collection information my heart sings.

We have an ID doctor that knows SO much about our micro tests, and he still asks us questions. He almost always knows the answer, but he still checks when he has doubts.

I've also seen doctors submit tissues (for culture) in formalin because they (or the surgical assistant, I don't actually know who bags the specimens) didn't think to split the specimen before sending it to micro and cytology.

So, thank you for checking you work. Your job is so much more complicated than mine and it is unfair to expect you to know everything off the cuff.
