That's not what cognitive dissonance is, cognitive dissonance is when two conflicting beliefs cause that person discomfort. This is just using her statuses as a cover for her rhetoric. It's tokenism.
She's the co-chair of the "Alternative for Germany" party and has held the position of leader of the AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag since 2017
Among the politically relevant parties? Yes, I would say so. The other right wing parties have distanced themselves from the AfD in the European parliament after one of their members praised SS members as "good people" and their second most relevant party functionary (Höcke) called for the Holocaust memorial to be abolished. Countless party functionaries had "scandals" of Hitler salutes or "Heil Hitler" proclamations. The soon-to-be leader of a German "state" (Bundesland), First to be under AfD rule just, announced the state needs more weapons for carrying out his plans of "remigtation" (expelling immigrants and children of immigrants, regardless of German citizenship, from Germany. Or maybe just shooting them from the sound of his announcement.).
Weidel herself is a bit more tempered in her speech, but the party is not just your average european right-wing party. Even the other right wing parties in Europe have put a lot of distance between themselves and the AfD because of how radical they are and how party functionaries keep praising the third Reich.
Supported by Russia, Musk etc. Misinformation on social media. Media campaigns against parties that would actually be a bit beneficial to the average citizen. Ruled for decades mostly by conservatives who are out of touch with reality. Education system meh, hence many citizens out of touch with reality. The list us endless
The Tweet in the screenshot must be refering to the recent Sachsen-Anhalt state election... Which is weird because the AfD hasn't even formed a government yet and Weidel herself won't be in charge of anything there.
I will say that in my almost 50 years on this planet the strongest correlation I’ve ever seen in anything seems to be extremely homophobic people who actually turn out to be homosexual.
Nothing is as strong as gay panic. I wonder if it’s the same logic as “I’m on a diet, so you can’t have a cookie!” You gotta be against the people who have what you aren’t allowed to (due to religious sexual repression).
A reminder that Elon Musk supported her party and said they should stop being ashamed of what their ancestors did. Ask Why is he involved in alt-right fringe German politics?
Guess this is a good time to remind people that right-wing "conservatism" is not just a cancer to the US, but the entire world. They vary in their level of sheer evil, but everywhere you go, without exception, conservatives make their society worse.
I had a friend who was big into being antiabortion in university. Hardcore conservative. Until he got a girl pregnant and all of a sudden he pushed her to get an abortion. I stopped talking to him after that. Hypocrites are bad enough. But those that try to force others to follow guidelines they don’t follow themselves should be barred from being in positions of power.
She ran the show in the last few years of Reagan's presidency and was clearly a very influential figure in his policy positions. While she may have never been elected, she exerted massive amounts of soft power. She sucks just as much as Ronnie did.
Either that or its the flipside. They self loath. Anti gay because they are gay. Anti immigrant because they now hate their wife. Anti abortion because they regret having one and wish it hadn't been an option.
She’s not a leader of anything except the fascist party. Weidel only cares about 2 things, money and power. She would’ve attached herself to any party that she had a chance of leading.
How is that still surprising anyone?
The AfD is peak bullshit. None of their policies make any sense for Germany's problems in 2026.
Sachsen-Anhalt (German state with that recent election) is a region with one of the oldest populations in Europe and one of the economically worst in Germany.
Young people are leaving the area even faster now - I wonder why.
Immigrant won't fill their spots in critical jobs like tech, industry, medical and care.
Their election success just shows how around 40%+ of a population do not understand simple economics
or demographics. Their voters are mostly grumpy boomer that can't deal with the world changing and want yesterday back - or young males who think Clavicular is a role model.
What pains me the most about this isn't, that the idiot right is winning.
It is that the left has nothing to offer. AfD is only strong because the other political forces lack a vision for the future.
Fascists view hypocrisy as a show of force; to believe and live with absurd contradictions as a way to exert their will to power over reality itself. The grotesque illogic of it is the point- she can want all these awful, horrific things for people just like her who are not her and in her mind that makes her something of an Uber mensch.
And: It is no suprise - this is a story only we germans can produce. The last fascist leader in Germany was immigrant too. Don't know if she likes painting....
Can you stop calling her a leader? She has no leading mandate in Germany. Not at all. She is the head of the party and a simple member of the parliament.
I had to Google this because I thought some piece of it HAD to be "off"... it wasn't. Her wife and kids are in Switzerland and she splits her time. She is leader of the AfD.
If you think about it though, isn't it kinda like how Hitler looked vs the Aryan model?
Is she actually against immigrants or is she against illegal immigrants. Because the vast majority of people have a problem with one one of those things not both if they have a stance about it.

Tons of politicians are anti-gun but are themselves surrounded by private armed security. They clearly are okay with having the benefits of guns themselves.
AI journalism at it's best. First leader.... of what? She is in no big leading position in this country. The biggest office is being the leader of the parliamentary group, unless I have missed something.
Another type of politician that is the "role model" type who's completely sells out who they represent for money, this is almost always only on the right/conservative side of politics.
See, this (insert race, sexual orientation, etc, here) is one of the "good ones", and that politician will be tolerated for the sake of being a puppet while being funnelled money.
This is how fascism has worked in modern history, the big bad also famously was an awful example of the “Aryan” race definition that he would pretend was to be idolized
The reason is easy: she is getting paid big time. Who cares about inmigrants, LGTBQ or whatever. Shes getting a big cake and doesnt care about anything or nobody else.
She is also extremely unlikeable and says a lot of stupid and outrageous things and has no issues with Neonazis in her party and colleagues saying to her face that she can not provide the best for her children.
I cannot imagine how she (or her wife) sleep at night. Completely immoral and Power hungry.
