That redditor was not referring to wraps.. he was referring to the rap.. the rap the Singh was rapping.. you're talking about something completely different than what that person meant..

Whooosh is correct..

u/PopFrise 1d ago

I think this is staged and would make that shit even funnier! Op, do you have the link to the original video?

62

u/Hidden_Forbidden3759 2d ago

I think it actually might be real. The song in the video can be found on YouTube titled M.J by a YouTube account named YRoyaL905. The lyrics are trash and cringe, at least the little bit I understand him saying in English. I think it's real because the guy only has 27 likes for this song. Lmao

35

u/mafugga77 2d ago

Hicky on dick deserves at least 30 likes

10

u/mij8907 2d ago

Sorry I don’t, I just saw the clip I shared here

Yeah it is staged in a sense that the dealership guy does not know about it lol, his instagram is yroyal.

There are many other talented artists from India but they primarily do it in the local languages. Mainly because, in general, rappers like to tell their struggle stories and that connects best with the local audience in the local language.

2

u/Humble_Service_868 2d ago

No spoilers but, that flow! Ty!
I’ll check [r/indianhiphopheads](r/indianhiphopheads) I do suppose!

That guy is not Indian.

-2

u/puredotaplayer 2d ago

Dude is American. He grew up in Texas. Indian born/origin yes, but he is American.

5

u/SlaveKnightSoman 2d ago

Wrong, he just spent some of his formative teen years in Texas. So he picked up the Texas Rap from there. He is an Indian with Indian passport.

3

u/Humble_Service_868 2d ago

Great question! I’ll peep whatever gets posted.

Heems is American (Queens!) , but can’t help but shoehorn in how ill he can get.

Your Old Droog - Bangladesh ft. Heems is just so refined, video version is the experience. 💐💐💐

2

u/Bad_Edditor8910 2d ago

Your Old Droog - Bangladesh ft. Heems

Is this a similar situation to how Bangladesh the producer got his stage name, where he read it somewhere and went "hey this sounds good" and rolled with it?

2

u/Humble_Service_868 2d ago

lol. Yeah!? I do like hearing his little DJ tag. Think there’s a guy in Gujarat maybe who goes by like, Sheboygan? Just learned Diplo is called that because he was a dinosaur kid!

2

u/Bad_Edditor8910 2d ago

Oh, so not from Diplo, diplo, diplomatico?

2

u/Humble_Service_868 2d ago

Ooooh, perhaps. Wiki said Diplodocus but yezzir. Fight for our limitations and we shall have them! Or whatever lol. I thought it was just dipping low. (Possibly à la Christina Milian - I failed out of college sober watching TRL and King Fu movies. Must be nice.. yeah! It was! Kinda… ☮️)

2

u/Bad_Edditor8910 1d ago

I'm just kidding man, haha. It's gotta be dinosaurs and I don't doubt it. But Diplomatico by Major Lazer is no coincidence in and of itself... it's a vanity project for sure lmao

1

u/Humble_Service_868 1d ago

I did not know of that : ) Thanks, I’ll throw it on the headphones today. Watch out for this and the Gold Lion remix are the Diplo I know. I feel a deep dive coming on. All right, peace.

1

u/Humble_Service_868 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh! And Lean on - Mø, big time. I like how she says “remember” as a command.

I was once told: It’s possible to think you knew something already before someone told you but you didn’t really know it before then.

1

u/Humble_Service_868 1d ago edited 1d ago

We tend to make the rules harder than they have to be.

I cry when things make me happy, and I’m not trying to fight it. “Was this the only world you had?” - gotta be sensitive pulling the rug on people, seems like not the time to be overly couching things though, not in this small potatoes department at least. ❤️

Punjabi rappers are the biggest in India.

Sidhu Moosewala is probably the biggest rapper to come out of India. He has a bunch of songs with UK rap artists and even Burner Boy. He was murdered a few years ago in a gang hit.

Shubh is another his song Cheques is popular

AP Dhillon is also great.

Karan Aujla

Bohemia has a more west coast Cali 90s sound. His songs are old, he was a pioneer in bringing rap to Punjab.

Punjabis that Rap in English.

Nav who was pretty big in the late 2010s early 2020s has songs with the Weeknd, Travis Scott, Gunna, etc.

AR Paisley is also a decent Punjabi English rapper from Toronto

1

u/96JY 1d ago

Thank you for sharing! I'll check them out!

1

u/MergeTheBands 2d ago

lol wtf ofc there are. dig.

1

u/96JY 2d ago

I've looked, but can't find any. Can you give me an example, please?

0

u/Bad_Edditor8910 2d ago

Bruh. I get it if you weren't familiar with all the Punjabi or Hindi rappers as a non-Indian or non-South Asian but where were you when Hanumankind blew up?

0

u/96JY 2d ago

Haven't heard of him, looked him up, but I don't like his music.

1

u/Bad_Edditor8910 1d ago

I didn't downvote you but regardless, it's not a matter of personal taste but rather good or "decent" or not. That's what you asked, no? Hanumankind is one example.

Interesting how the first line is in English “she give a hickee on my dick” then it goes straight into another language

2

u/btsd_ 2d ago

Go into any Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) in the US and find a group of teen through around 45ish year olds and they will be talking in a mix of Punjabi and English. At least all the ones I grew up with do (i just turned 40, born n raised in farm town USA but both my parents were Sikh immigrants). Its probably that way with a lot of cultures/races. Its kind of mainstream now to talk in a mix.

Fun fact: anyone, regardless of age/gender/religion/race/wealth is welcome anytime at any Gurdwara, and can seek food/shelter/company/advice with ZERO strings attached, just please cover your head and remove your shoes when in the chamber they hold service. Seriously, free meals/boarding if asked for, and again, no strings attached, if you dont want to hear about anything religious, you wont.

2

u/Boner4Stoners 2d ago

That’s really cool. My ex-gf’s dad was Sikh, but after 9/11 he stopped wearing his head scarf and started shaving his beard, and I think just kinda stopped practicing. Really sad, I’ve always had a lot of empathy for Sikh’s and what they went through being scapegoated for something their religion had nothing to do with.

On a related note (to the language mixing), there was some K-pop story in the news cycle the other week about a superfan who killed herself. I listened to a couple songs from the group she was a fan of and noticed that they also mixed English into Korean in their songs. K-pop isn’t my cup of tea but I thought that was interesting, seems like it’s a growing phenomena due to the internet mixing different cultures and languages.

3

u/btsd_ 2d ago

Oof, ya, that was a rough time...my uncle owned a bodega style shop in Mississippi, and after being harassed constantly, started keeping a gun behind the counter. Well long story short he drew it on someone that threatened him, and it turned out to be a off duty cop that then shot and killed him. As hard as it is to say, my uncle should not have drawn, but its just sad thats the position he had felt he was in due to how things had changed in the months after 9/11.

I was a sophomore in 2001, and As stated grew up in a small farming town in WA State (3k population) and while our family was never directly treated bad, i got my fair share of "terrorists" jokes and it sucked.

Annyyyways, I really like the mixing of the culture/language of the home country mixed with the US. It signifies keeping your history alive while embracing fully your new home. My parents taught and showed us our heritage, but encouraged embracing the norms in the US. They never forced their beliefs on us kids, and allowed us to explore whatever we wanted. I went to a sunday school and youth group at baptist church and my dad even got me a Bible, purely because I was curious (I claim no religion, just try and not be a bad person and thats fulfilling enough for me)

1

u/brianwski 2d ago

they also mixed English into Korean in their songs. ... seems like it’s a growing phenomena

Unrelated to music, "Konglish" (콩글리시) is a mixture of Korean and English. I assume the name comes from the more common "Spanglish".

My wife was born in South Korea and came to the USA at age 3 (and she is over 50 years old now). My wife has zero "foreign accent" when speaking English. How she speaks with her parents breaks my brain. First of all, her parents speak mostly Korean to her (and always did so at home), but sometimes her parents just drop in English words smoothly into Korean sentences like it makes sense. My wife answers back in 90% English, but with Korean words inserted. Half the time I don't think they are even important words, more like exclamations or adjectives.

Sort of off tangent: A "pidgin" is any very simple (new) language invented to trade (to do business) when two groups meet and don't share a common language. I adore that mental image: two groups meet and they notice there is a trade to be made here (universal concept), and they literally solve the language barrier issues on the fly. They part ways friends (or friendly) with promise to return for more trade in a few weeks.

A "creole" is a pidgin that keeps developing over time until there is a group that primarily speaks the pidgin/creole as their first language. A pidgin is VERY simple, it lacks tons of subtle parts of language, and pidgin doesn't even require a sentence structure. A creole is much more developed and has sentence structure and there are native speakers of it, but there are also casual creole speakers where they use creole only for trading or basic interactions with outsiders.

"Spanglish" and "Kongrish" aren't one of those. They are hybrid languages (also called "fusion languages"), which means the speakers were already fully bilingual and could already communicate just fine in not one but TWO separate languages. If they wanted to trade (do business with another group) they would drop the Kongrish and just speak either Korean or English which they are fluently capable of speaking. They just decided to mash it up for funsies.
