If a giant ball of wings and eyes appears to you in the night, don't be afraid.

You should take it as a cue to read some of his writings. He was a Catholic mystic who wrote books about how to achieve real communion with God. Ascent of Mount Carmel and Dark Night of The Soul are his most famous works. You could read about these books on Wikipedia and see what you think.

I highly recommend Dark Night of the Soul. It has had a profound influence on my life.

Loreena McKennitt has an absolutely gorgeous version of Dark Night of the Soul set to music. One of my all-time favorites.

Seconding this, OP. Hit me up if something calls out to you and want to check it out in the original language.

u/themicrodose 11h ago

Maybe? You sure do sound eager. Even if they come in your dreams you’ll rather just snooze on your message

4

u/Direct_Dark4143 11h ago

where could i find his writings?

-26

u/themicrodose 11h ago

Seriously I just googled. Maybe the message you received wasn’t for you and for us who see its importance. Don’t take these opportunities for granted

u/Me0w981 8h ago

Don’t be a dick, they expressed interest. What more do you want? Them to be chomping at the bit? Begging and pleading for help and answers? Get over yourself.

8

u/Direct_Dark4143 11h ago

i’ll read his writings the second i’m able to

You can usually type the author and the title plus pdf or epub and look for files… on Google look for the lil gray badge that shows the file type….(that’s how I found it)

2

u/3rdUncleMeatSandwich 8h ago

If you already googled you coulda copied the link n shared it, Mr smarty pants. I did the same thing as you but I was helpful so <@#;*) (that’s a 🤔 in a party hat)

He led a very interesting life. He was jailed at one point for trying to reform his religious order (Carmelites). Instead of being angry or crestfallen, he became the preeminent doctor of the Church (universally acknowledged master) in mystical theology. He was associated closely with Teresa de Ɓvila, another Doctor of the Church and renowned expert of prayer who was also persecuted for her reforms.

Maybe it's a sign to be unafraid of going against the grain and finding your own path. Both Juan and Teresa ended up being global successes despite the hardships they initially encountered.

u/themicrodose 11h ago

Sounds like OP ain’t interested. He’d rather just post on Reddit

They said ā€œmaybeā€ once in a colloquialism and you’ve been riding them about it and being relentlessly negative since. You even responded to them asking for resources with contempt towards them and praise for yourself.

Is this how you represent your faith? Is this putting your best foot forward?

Edit: they responded by privately messaging me to say that they were doing this to subtly encourage the other commenter to ā€œprove them wrong,ā€ and that they do this in their youth group. To be completely honest, this approach feels manipulative to me, which is why I’m mentioning it here.

I’ll put my cards on the table here: I was raised Quaker. We do not proselytize, but, for those who show an interest, it just feels completely wrong to belittle or manipulate them into the faith. Your relationship with the divine as you perceive is a product of the deepest part of your soul, knowable only to you, and can only be approached with honesty. I am explaining what I was told, and my own views, not to shame anyone or as some sort of ā€œgotcha,ā€ but because my conscience tells me I simply cannot support this approach, even passively.

u/Direct_Dark4143 11h ago

i’ll for sure look into this dude, he sounds really interesting

u/Cole_Townsend 11h ago

Nonetheless, it got me thinking of this Saint again. I haven't really read his works but I did study theology in some iteration of my former life.

I only know of him because of this painting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_of_Saint_John_of_the_Cross

This, interesting oneĀ

u/Nofucksgivenin2021 11h ago

Is anyone else seeing Saint OCD?

9

u/Splungeblob 11h ago

OCD is the abbreviation of the Latin ā€œOrdo Carmelitarum Discalceatorumā€ (Order of Discalced Carmelites). The religious order of friars he was a member of.

9

u/Nofucksgivenin2021 11h ago

So he’s not the Saint of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder…. Damn, we need a one of those.

5

u/Splungeblob 11h ago

Not specifically OCD, but Saint Dymphna is the patron saint of mental illness, nervous disorders, anxiety, and emotional distress.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Dymphna

6

u/Nofucksgivenin2021 11h ago

Holy Fuck I was kidding there’s one of those???

6

u/Splungeblob 11h ago edited 11h ago

Dude there’s a patron saint for essentially everything, lol.

I looked up the patron saint of stomach problems a while ago when I had a horrible stomach bug. (It’s Saint Timothy - the patron saint of stomach ailments and intestinal disorders.)

3

u/Nofucksgivenin2021 11h ago

Which one is in charge of the pedos? I would like to have a word with him

5

u/Splungeblob 11h ago

There’s some overlap with various things saints are patrons of, so there may be some others that would be appropriate, but arguably that could also just fall under Saint Dymphna (as a mental illness).

u/WeirdGoat9022 1h ago

Love that you answered this seriously.

Could it be because of Santa Cruz the skateboarding brand?

2

u/Direct_Dark4143 12h ago

don’t really skate so probably not

8

u/Tallowpot 11h ago

I liive in Santa Cruz but had a weird dream about a scorpion losing its tail.
What the heckin does that mean?

6

u/dirkalict 11h ago

Last time I dreamt about losing an appendage my cock fell off.

5

u/Tallowpot 11h ago

The best part is waking up and still having said cock. I don’t know any scorpions, sadly.

6

u/iLRMLH24 12h ago

Neither do I but I am still aware of the brand, mostly for their clothing

7

u/fapacunter 9h ago

I had that with a song before.

Dreamt of a song. Woke up, recorded myself singing it before I forgot and it took years before I found out what it was

14

u/Jacketel 11h ago

3

u/throwawaybsme 4h ago

u/JamesHenry627 5h ago

u/CheMc 11h ago

Incoming Prophet.

I've had this happen before two or three times with both people and locations; I'm convinced there's really something to... remembering fragments of things completely by accident. I don't think we have complete memories (in fact, I'd argue against it), but I think we have more bouncing around our minds than we might think.

6

u/Direct_Dark4143 11h ago

the mind is a weird place

2

u/Hagura71 5h ago

I had the same thing happen a few days ago. Woke up thinking about an Celtic folk monster that I had never heard of. I don’t know how I knew about ā€œLeanan Sidheā€ at that moment. I must have overheard it subconsciously or knew about it earlier and forgot or something.

8

u/Splungeblob 11h ago

Honestly really cool OP. I second others saying to take it as a sign you should look into his writings and what he was about.

5

u/Direct_Dark4143 11h ago

yeah i’ll for sure look into them, do you know where to find them?

4

u/Splungeblob 11h ago

Dark Night of the Soul - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Night_of_the_Soul (has the poem and other relevant info about it).

The poem is from the beginning of his book ā€œAscent of Mount Carmelā€. Looks like there might be some free ebooks and other resources for the full book online.

I had a dream about someone who seemed holy and what not. We were talking outside. I can't remember the conversation. But I remember his name. I googled him and he was a saint in the Phillipines. I normally don't remember my dreams. This one really stuck out to me.

Saint Pedro Calungsod

Life: Born around 1654 in Visayas, Philippines, he was a young migrant catechist (a teacher of the Catholic faith) who joined Jesuit missionaries.

Martyrdom: He was killed in 1672 in Guam while defending Father Diego Luis de San Vitores during missionary work.

Canonization: Canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in October 2012, making him the second Filipino saint.

3

u/Direct_Dark4143 10h ago

super interesting, it’s so strange how things like this happen

2

u/IaMtHel00phole 10h ago

Everything is connected. That's the only way it can be explained.

2

u/WhiskeyAndKisses 8h ago

I once woke up thinking about Trujilio. (I have 0 ties with America, never heard of it, and have no idea what I would do there)

Another time it was some specific german verb about deers.

So yeah it happens, but what are we even supposed to do with that lol

3

u/Obelisk_M 3h ago

You should look up what Cryptomnesia is.

Cruz simply means cross in Spanish. The Catholic Church recognizes over 10,000 saints. The statistical probability of pairing the title "Saint" with one of the most culturally ubiquitous religious words in human history & finding a corresponding historical figure is functionally 100%. You could wake up thinking about "Saint Dog" & find Saint Roch, the patron saint of dogs.

It happened to me with Camazotz.

2

u/atomicwoodchuck 3h ago

The GOP convention just concluded in Texas, and local Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz gave a speech there. Did you perhaps see a reference to her, and the last name just sort of stuck into your subconscious?
I’m not religious, but interesting things have popped into my head. If I really think about it, most of the time I can figure out what I heard that made me think that thing.

3

u/hungrylittleworm 10h ago

Yeah dark night of the soul OP, your being told to address your shadow. Safe travels

2

u/Direct_Dark4143 10h ago

could you elaborate on what that means?

4

u/hungrylittleworm 10h ago

We all have ā€˜negative’ natures, they manifest differently for different people.
I’m doing a similar journey myself, realising why I’ve always been a little fucked up after so many years.
Might be a call to address past trauma, grown, heal.
Should meditate on St.John.

Oh Happy Chance!

You have felt the call. Time to join the Inquisition.

This guy came up yesterday during reading. This morning he is all I can think about. Now I see this post, I guess it's time to learn about him.

2

u/enthusiasm_gap 1h ago

Not to throw cold water on you man, but there is like... zero percent chance you haven't in some way absorbed information passively from culture about this dude. You heard his name a million times and it stuck in your head, its not that deep. That being said, check out his poems they're pretty cool.

1

u/jackspasm 10h ago

Do you meditate? This seems like your higher self communicating with you. Meditation could open up more synchronicity like this.

Your art is really awesome BTW.

2

u/Direct_Dark4143 10h ago

no i’m not really spiritual at all actually, thank you! i taught myself to draw
