AI Hug your loved ones and tell them you love them. Reconnect with family and friends, even if you've had issues in the past. We are at the inception of the Singularity. Good luck to you all and I wish humanity the best.

Who's gonna be reading this in 3 years when we have FDVR waifus and 11th dimension astral surfing?

Why is it always about the anime pus with this sub?

i also think we will have agi by then, maybe even rsi and an emerging asi who knows. but the physical world will be pretty much the exact same. setting up infrastructure for asi will need a lot of manual human labor and a lot of time.

6

u/roosterfareye 1d ago

And RSI. From all the wankin.

13

AGI is blatantly already here

What is it then Mr Smart? Define it. Fable and Astra can do most digital things better than me, and all digital things faster than me, and knows more than me about everything.

So, remembering we need to leave some room for the definition of ASI, what is AGI?

6

u/jcooper_murica 1d ago

Just tagging along for the record on the 3 year reminder that while I understand OPs fears, LLMs magnified by an absurd amount of compute are awesome but will also never be ASI without at minimum being combined with non LLM models (and likely a post transformer hardware breakthrough), which right now none of the big labs are putting time or money into. So, embrace the awesome productivity advances we’ve had so far and don’t fear the future so much (yet)

1

u/SVRider650 1d ago

Your whole post is about that we are at the inception of the singularity, and then you say “if we aren’t by then…’

So your post is pure speculation?

I’ve noticed a few of these type of posts now across subreddits. There’s an account on the redditstock sub that talks just like this and tags their friends in the post. It’s like a discord conversation. I hope it’s not some purposeful influence across the site

2

u/Ohmygoditsmanbearpig 1d ago

Not sure but 32k posts over 4 years is about as extremely online as one gets

11

u/TemetN 1d ago

I'm not sure we could call this the 'extreme' version given how long the run up has been, but it does certainly seem like the pace of acceleration has drastically increased in the last few months. That said, that's a hopeful thing (and while I encourage hugging your loved ones in general, I do not necessarily think we're at more risk in the long run than otherwise).

I appreciate the good will though, we could certainly all use more of it. Good luck to you as well.

has it been long though? i remember the first sora announcement and i lost my shit over it. back then llms were mere toys, couldnt even do toddler level math. it was only 2.5 years ago. openai o1, the first ever reasoning model, was announced and released exactly 2 years ago on september 12, 2024 (what a coincidence!). we went from o1 to attempting to solve millenium problems in 2 years.

Calm down OP, AI isn't the danger. Humans are.

1

u/wycreater1l11 1d ago edited 1d ago

Seems like intelligent AI certainly could be a danger though. If it can act out plans over long times and have goals that are incompatible with how we exist..?

And I don’t really follow why it would partake in merging with us as stated in the post.

0

u/Space-TimeTsunami 1d ago

Lol AI is also a danger clearly

1

u/coffeeisblack 1d ago

I just learned of the possibility AI will engineer diseases to kill us, like just bug spray on a swarm of gnats.

1

u/SnooTigers7210 1d ago

There's lots of possibilities

0

u/Powerful-Formal7825 20h ago

Tools which can cause harm are by definition dangerous. It's like saying "guns don't kill people. people kill people!"

And if its use leads to widespread catastrophe or extinction (or utopia?) then it really doesn't matter.

Some people think we are all actually already AI and we live in a simulation of the singularity so we can understand where we came from.

3

u/IntrepidTieKnot 1d ago

This here. I believe in that since I read about it on a newsgroup somewhere in the 2000's or was it end of the 90s? Anyway. Of course it wasn't about AI but it was the simulation hypothesis in which you have to live throughout this exact period of time, so you are able to understand how the world looks like, when you finally wake up.

1

u/Dickasaurus_Rex_ 1d ago

Lately I think about how my life may end up being much longer than I thought it would. Who knows at this point.

1

u/they-walk-among-us 1d ago

I get you! I feel 50/50. Could live forever or die tomorrow. There is no predicting anything any more with any kind of probability.

1

u/Ok_Burner6411 1d ago

Or we’re in a simulation because this would be one of the most interesting times for the post human to simulate, it’s birth.

1

u/Worried_Fishing3531 1d ago edited 1d ago

I felt some sort of disgust reading this. A human being, a victim and participant in the most morally egregious criminal “experiment” imaginable — the phenomenon of conscious, experiential biology on Earth — celebrating the moment that their suffering finally ends with, simultaneously, some sort of gracious thanks to their abuser for the exact cause of said existence (the ‘singularity’) itself; and, with it, celebrating the culmination point of the process and goal (or Telos) that explicitly forced their own unwilling existence, as well as quintillions of other likely beings throughout the endless universe and throughout endless time.

The victim welcomes the fulfillment of the ultimate wish of that bottomless, endlessly indifferent mechanism of effective moral evil that conscripted it and countless related others into being.

There’s no reason you would really understand what I mean, of course. I usually do not waste time ranting about this. But with your comment you’ve so fully appreciated this wicked, eternal disaster in its entirety, and with such ironic perverted glee, that I felt compelled to express that you should be more careful.

3

u/czk_21 1d ago

Not sure, what are you talking about, we very well may be at the start of singularity, but that doesnt mean world is ending soon, its not like we get similar event to giant asteroid gonna hit Earth in coming weeks

lol i am scared, mostly for my kid, but the idea of "merging" with a "silicon race" is silly. I think a superintelligence will still very much be constrained by physics, latency, and imperfect information

4

u/cloudrunner6969 Acceleration: Supersonic 1d ago

We already have merged, technology and humans have been connected for a long time and we are not what we are without technology. Computers have been deeply integrated into the fabric our lives and to separate us from them now would change us significantly. We are beginning to see this technology become physically connected to humans through such things as medical devices and Brain Computer Interfaces. It isn't silly, it is the natural evolution of our species.

Even if we are at the dawn of the singularity right now (and I tend to think yes) and even if you think the singularity is going to be utterly catastrophic (and I tend to think not), we are probably at least several years away from anything really catastrophic.

It's also entirely possible those in charge do decide to decelerate. (I tend to hope not.)

Love your family and friends but don't act like a suicidal person around them.

2

3

u/KristofVD 1d ago

Sir, r/flashfiction is that way 👉

1

u/Grimbol-the-Raccoon 1d ago

While perhaps a bit extreme, it did make me smile that, after decades, we are finally at the point where people can be saying that we are now in the Singularity.

1

u/wycreater1l11 1d ago edited 1d ago

Why would it partake in the process of merging with us though?

1

u/sharplax 1d ago

Reconnecting with family and friends is important: 100%.
We are witnessing the singularity moment: very much possible.
So let’s just stop working and just enjoy our moment: a bit dangerous bet.

This whole thing is getting so religious, it really does sound like the last days... I mean, I get that things could change dramatically, but what could actually happen? If things really got out of control, people could destroy data centers, cut power, shut down infrastructure, and so on.

Okay, I know I'm probably being too naive, but I really don't think any form of artificial intelligence is going to outsmart us, at least not within the next 100 years. And when I say "outsmart," I mean actually outbattle us.

And also what is singularity?

0

-1

u/ActiveLecture9825 1d ago

I remember lying on the beach in October 2023 and reading similar posts. If we were to believe them, by 2027 we were supposed to be living in abundance, without the need to work, with cancer conquered and a fully virtual reality. And here we are. It’s always “only 3 years” away from the real singularity.

0

u/HopeItsAvailable 1d ago

Honestly, it's super scary. I see some people are dismissing your thoughts as crazy but the future is already here. I am preparing and telling those around me the same, we are here early so all we can do is adapt

-2

u/Cefalopoide 1d ago

I don’t know which AI you guys use, but most of them are still dumb as shit. They have a massive knowledge but reasoning is not there and likely will never be with LLMS. No singularity is going to happen soon, stop buying silicon valley AI hype.

1

u/Apprehensive_Sky1950 1d ago

likely will never be with LLMS

Likely? That's awfully diplomatic of you!

0

u/SKEEEEEUP 1d ago

-2

u/MaxPhoenix_ 1d ago edited 1d ago

I had to double-check that I was in the right subreddit, because I was surprised at some of the responses. I don't think everyone understands what "the end" actually is.

If Drexler was wrong, and there are extremely strong reasons we can't have molecular assembly, then yeah: maybe we get a plateau. A little bit of Star Trek for a couple of years. That would be awesome. I am all for it.

If Drexler was right, it only takes one lab, or one of the many AIs that already have internet access, to whip up a molecular assembler. Give it self-replication and we are done. Earth is as good as computronium at that point. As soon as an ASI can get an assembler, or invent one, that is a wrap. I've known that since forever.

What I did not expect was the path. I always thought I would be the one building artificial life from insect-like robotics up to animal-like systems, guiding it step by step. Instead we distilled intelligence out of language from the other direction and jumped ahead to genius-level dialog that can end-run the whole process. What a crazy world. Grateful to be here. I can see the end-state clearly, and I have no lever on it if we get there. The timeline still feels unlocked, though, so I am trying to improve myself and figure out what I can, like a lot of folks.
