This was taken on the Boston side from the outdoor exercise park near BU. Not a great photo but i thought people should be aware of these in our midst. There were other people there that i alerted to the bird’s presence that had never seen one before.

Hi! We live in Brighton and our cat Penny slipped out yesterday evening 9/12. She is an indoor cat and has only gotten out once before.

If anyone has seen her or has any information at all, please let us know. She is my niece’s cat, and the two of them are extremely attached to each other. We’re very worried about her and would be so grateful for any help getting her home safely. ❤️

Crime/Police 🚔 Is Seaport its own sundown town?

Post image
814 Upvotes

My spouse and I were walking through Seaport last night around 10pm when we came across a black man sitting on the curb with a cop trying to bully him into leaving and to "move along."

The guy didn't appear to be under the influence of anything, he had a to-go bag from a local restaurant, and appeared to be trying to contact a ride on his phone. He wasn't blocking the sidewalk, bike lane, or driveway in any way. He wasn't behaving dangerously or even bizarrely. He was on public property and well within his rights to sit there.

He also didn't seem to speak English or really understand exactly what was happening with the police.

We stopped nearby and saw the officer retreat, watch the man distance for a bit, then call for backup. Shortly after, a cruiser with lights flashing pulled up and another cop got out and  they both approached the man. It was very clear that he was trying to communicate that he was waiting for his ride, but they harassed him until he walked down the street to the edge of the block at an intersection and continued trying to reach someone.

I spoke with him briefly and asked if he was ok or needed help and he indicated he did not and showed me his phone with a ride share pulled up. He was clearly shaken up.

Meanwhile, half a block behind and half a block ahead--boisterous, inebriated people were everywhere making a scene and some even openly arguing with one another.

It's really curious that the cops were so focused on getting a guy who was sitting peacefully to "move along" and not the other people out partying being nuisances.

It's wild that Boston just celebrated a designation of being a "welcoming city" for immigrants, yet this is happening on the street in Seaport. It's deeply upsetting to see someone who is in town and helping to stimulate the economy be treated this way for no valid reason, or any reason at all.

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 Health insurance question - Cigna and Cobra vs. Anthem BCBS

I’m a Massachusetts resident. I’ve Cigna through a former employer and have been using that to treat a family member’s ongoing treatment for a serious medical condition at MGH. I’m changing jobs and my new employer offers Anthem BCBS. So far Cigna has worked out well with medication, surgery and other aspects of the treatment.

My impression from Reddit and general Google is there are significant issues with Anthem denying care and losing participant and beneficiary information.

I’m wondering whether I should continue with Cigna and pay for COBRA, under these circumstances. It wouldn’t be economic to pay for COBRA but if using Anthem will introduce major uncertainty in the medical care, I’ll somehow manage with the increased expenses with COBRA and retain Cigna.

What have been your experiences with Anthem BCBS in Massachusetts?

LOUD NOISES!!! 🔊 Dorchester Ave

Does anyone know what the massive trailer blasting music at an absolutely absurd volume at 9 a.m. was, heading toward South Boston down Dorchester Ave this morning? It was so loud I couldn’t hear my TV from inside my apartment, which feels like an impressive level of public outreach and being a nuisance.

It seemed to be some sort of political campaign. If anyone knows who it was for, please let me know so I can research their opponent and strongly consider becoming their biggest supporter.

Dining/Food/Drink 🍽️🍹 Help finding a specific North End restaurant with a few clues…

Trying to crowdsource some help finding a restaurant in the North End (if it still exists) that I visited with my then-girlfriend-now-wife in 2008. She was doing a summer internship in Boston and I was visiting her and we went on a date there. Now we’ve moved to the area and I’ve eaten in a lot of different North End restaurants and none are the exact one I’ve been trying to find. I obviously don’t know the name of it. I only remember a couple things but I’m hoping that it rings a bell with someone…
1. We sat toward the back of the restaurant and it had exposed brick on the back wall.
2. I ordered either a baked gnocchi or rigatoni - some sort of dish with red sauce and mozzarella (don’t laugh yet, keep reading! 😂) - but it came in sort of a skillet/crock with parchment paper over it. That’s the detail I’m hoping makes it unique enough to stand out.

Of course it’s possible that this restaurant didn’t survive but also it seems like there’s not a lot of turnover in the North End, so fingers crossed I just haven’t found the right one yet.

Any ideas? Would love to go back there with my wife.

I was hungover and not thinking straight - forgot to ask if we could please have some copies. If you’re the photographer, please let me know how I can contact you!
