He’s brain damaged.

u/OnlyFiveLives 2d ago

They REALLY don't like it when I point out to them that he veered far right after brain damage.

269

u/AcridTest 2d ago

His staff also say that over the past year and a half or so, he hasn’t been following his medical team’s post-stroke treatment plan anymore. So I think it’s not just the potential brain damage but also his refusal to follow his current treatment plan that might be worsening the impacts of his stroke. It’s sad, really.

168

u/Reasonable-Act-3465 2d ago

You mean a Republican is denying science and medical advice?!! I’m shocked I tell you!

12

u/Unable-Log-4870 1d ago

Maybe he just needs to cameraderie that can only be had by hanging around other brain-damaged politicians?

u/Kythorian 2d ago

It would be sad if he had retired from politics due to his medical issues. But he decided to make it all of our problem instead.

35

u/r_special_ 2d ago

Because the bribes and insider stock tips are amazing

16

u/I_Ski_Freely 2d ago

He doesn't have any actual skills, how the hell else is he supposed to get to $100M, learn how to sing like Beyonce?

8

u/ScyllaOfTheDepths 1d ago

He has an MBA from UConn and an MPP from Harvard. He's got actual skills and that's the scary part. He's not a dumb man. He's doing this intentionally.

12

u/LurkerInSpace 1d ago

If he's had a stroke those skills might be pretty blunted. One could imagine him clinging to his Senate seat because he knows he can't sustain a career elsewhere now.

6

u/ScyllaOfTheDepths 1d ago

You really don't know how these people operate. When he loses his senate seat, he'll get a c-suite job at some venture capital firm owned by a billionaire republican donor.

9

u/LurkerInSpace 1d ago

That would itself be a reason for him to rat to the Republicans rather than retire for health reasons though, no?

→ More replies (0)

3

u/I_Ski_Freely 1d ago

Even before the stroke he wasn't particularly articulate, and his opponent was a doctor who in my opinion, is as dumb as rocks. People need to stop using credentials as proxies for intelligence. I'm not saying, don't trust expertise (well maybe not Dr Oz for medical advice), but assuming that someone has a certain level of education and thus must be competent in general is a mistake.

2

u/ScyllaOfTheDepths 1d ago

Go ahead and apply to Harvard and tell me how it goes. Being smart =/= being morally good. He's a smart guy and he knows what he's doing is evil.

Seriously. Dude could’ve defeated Oz, retired to take care of his health, and he’d have been a hero. His media narrative would have been “the regular guy who stepped up for his community and saved PA from a wealthy carpet-bagger, all while refusing to wear a suit.”

Instead, he’s… gestures vaguely… this.

As a physician and post-stroke survivor myself, lemme tell you that even people who are lucky to recover with full mental faculties intact will regularly proceed to be non-compliant with their blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol, and lifestyle recommendations by myself and their stroke team. Some people see a life threatening and life-altering event and decide denial/"It won't happen again" mentalities are better treatment plans.

All this to say, you don't need a stroke and resulting brain damage to be a lazy, unethical, freeloading asshole. But that appears to be the only thing Fetterman aspires to be these days.

u/jyunga 2d ago

Did you not bother to read all the articles when he was up for election? People around him claiming he was a lazy bum? It's not surprising he took off the mask after his stroke/whatever he had.

14

u/blackweebow 2d ago

They were claiming he was lazy bc he wore hoodies lol not because he was shilling for Israel. Strokes can lead to personality changes, and his staff turnover rate afterwards was overcooked

18

u/chef-nom-nom 2d ago

My wife and I met him in-person twice, once before he was Lt. Gov and once when he was campaigning. The stroke didn't make him what we see now, it only removed his filter.

8

u/b0w3n 1d ago

Bro was a racist piece of shit a while before this too, he was just better than Oz for that position. Even now he's still better than Oz.

10

u/Jubenheim 1d ago

Even now he's still better than Oz.

Extremely true and extremely fucking sad as well. Even with how shitty he is, he still does vote Left almost half the time, which is... about as good as we can hope for without a real candidate running against him.

2

u/Independent-Bug-9352 1d ago

What do you mean by this? What specifically of those in-person meetings made you see a filter and not who he genuinely was pre-stroke?

In many ways aren't those filters what define people, and why alcohol removing filters isn't necessarily representative of a person's baseline mental state?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/jyunga 2d ago

No they weren't making that claim. You obviously didn't read the articles back then. Reddit nuked them so I don't blame you.

3

u/Hamberder-8647 1d ago

He has a history of doing weird shit before his stroke though, like chasing a black jogger... as the mayor. Wild shit.

11

u/DumbFishBrain 2d ago

I used to work in a hospital as a lab tech and we always heard stories about CVA patients having complete personality changes after having a massive stroke. The kindest, gentlest people would become absolute monsters to their families, apparently, and vise versa.

I think that's what happened with Fetterman. It's not an excuse but an explanation.

4

u/underisk 1d ago

Did the brain damage he didn’t have yet make him chase down a black jogger with a shotgun?

3

u/Scruffynerffherder 1d ago

He is a prime example of why brain damage and how it's linked to political affiliation needs to be better studied. Something about losing higher brain function leads to lizard brain Republicanism.

I’m surprised he’s not leg damaged standing on those toothpicks.

3

u/Psianth 2d ago

He was always this way, people just weren’t paying attention and thought he was progressive because he wore a hoodie.

4

u/Kythorian 2d ago

To some extent yeah, but actual brain damage is the only explanation for him actually thinking this was a good idea. If he was just a non-brain damaged conservative he would be trying to keep his support of Trump as quiet as possible to trick democrats into voting for him again. This is politically just objectively incredibly stupid.

11

u/art-is-t 2d ago

1

u/Kythorian 2d ago

Yeah, this isn’t even what someone does who has always been secretly conservative and lied to voters to get democrats to elect them. The smart move for a secret conservative trying to undermine democrats is to try and keep their actual political beliefs as quiet as possible. Only someone who is genuinely brain damaged would think this is a good idea.

1

u/ssnnaarrff 2d ago

Last week’s WSJ article on him was terrible. Earlier this year, three wounded military vets from PA travelled to his DC office to attend a scheduled meeting with him to discuss veteran healthcare. And he cancelled on them like 20 minutes beforehand with the excuse that he got sick from something he ate. In reality, he cancelled so he could do an impromptu FOX interview. Another time, he refused to go to a funeral for some PA cops killed in the line of duty because the funeral was going to be too long (it was 3 hours). And another time he refused to meet with reps from a PA children’s hospital about vaccines for kids because he said it was a waste of his time and they were just doing it to get a free trip to DC. He also misses most Senate floor and committee sessions.

I don’t know how much brain damage he sustained from his stroke, but it’s pretty clear he doesn’t care about his constituents or fulfilling his duties anymore.

I used to work in the Senate and even the laziest of senators I knew weren’t cancelling meetings with vets and stuff. He’s nuts.

52

u/Mighty-Marigold2016 2d ago

That is absolutely appalling. What an egotistical POS who’s only interested in himself. Sounds like a true republican. 🤦🏻‍♀️

17

u/AcridTest 2d ago edited 2d ago

I know, it’s really sad. He’s failing his constituents on so many of the basic services Senators are supposed to deliver to them like attending funerals, holding town halls and meeting with various state interest groups. Most groups that lobby senators are actually state-based groups that want things like more bike lanes, increased funding for medical research, highway improvements, etc. By him not engaging with so many people and including their requests in funding bills, he’s absolutely kept Pennsylvanians from receiving federal dollars that could have been used for all sorts of good things.

He’s also the only “Democrat” PA senator, so technically while there’s another senator for those constituents to go to, since he’s a Republican (Dave McCormick), I think a lot of constituents know that McCormick isn’t going to really advocate for their needs either.

3

u/Mighty-Marigold2016 2d ago

Shitty choices for senators, either way. Of course, this could also provide an opportunity for a decent, moderately common sense candidate to run against both of those corrupt idiots. Someone who ACTUALLY represents the people who elected them…

3

u/AcridTest 2d ago

I really hope so! We’ve seen some encouraging signs in PA, especially around R strongholds like Lancaster/York, that the people there are willing to switch things up lately and boot out incumbents who stop working for their constituents.

6

u/Neat_Egg_2474 2d ago

Sorry, the only Vets he cares about serve in the IDF, not the IDFs mercenaries (The US military)

2

u/huskersax 2d ago

I used to work in the Senate and even the laziest of senators I knew weren’t cancelling meetings with vets and stuff. He’s nuts.

How much of that is him, and how much of that is that his staff is likely a bunch of rejects and losers because no experienced staffers from either political party would want anything to do with working for him at this point?

4

u/AcridTest 2d ago

It’s him. The WSJ article showed text messages where staffers were telling him about meetings and stuff and he was flat out responding that he wouldn’t go. It’s his staff that’s actually raising the alarm about his incompetency. Most senate staffers, especially at more senior levels, are actually very competent and have lots of experience. Many in his office probably want to leave (and many already have) but it’s hard to transfer to another senator’s office to work because most staffers have a connection to the state (as in if you work for a senator from PA, you’re also likely from PA…OR you have some personal connection that hooked you up with the job). Also it’s hard because after you leave the Senate as a staffer, you have to follow like a cooling off period where you aren’t allowed to immediately go into lobbying work that would have you lobbying Congress. Lobbying is where most want to go after the Senate to make better money (I admit I did this).

1

u/Real-Promise-3665 2d ago

Why doesn't he just cross the floor and become a republican?

4

u/AcridTest 1d ago

I think he knows he’s toast either way. But most senators love attention so he likes keeping everyone in limbo with “will he switch or not?” But speaking at the GOP convention last night makes him basically a dead man walking. I actually think he doesn’t like being in the Senate. It’s too much travel, too much time having to do serious things like reading and whatnot. He wants to be a pundit on FOX. So I think he will either leave the Senate early or stay to the end of his term (I think he has like 3-4 more years?) but switch parties after the midterm. When he leaves office he’ll get a significant contract as a paid FOX contributor. Maybe he’ll start a podcast and write a book too (rather, he’ll have someone ghostwrite a book for him).

6

u/Rit91 1d ago

He is 'up' for reelection in 2028 since he was elected in 2022. Doubt he even tries to run since PA residents will go for anyone else in the democratic primary since they're real tired of him.

20

29

u/shinobipopcorn 2d ago

43

u/ChildONewcastle 2d ago

Americas political system is based on 'fuck it, no one would be that evil'

18

u/No_Syrup_9167 2d ago

Its honestly astonishing how many of the worlds political systems are basically held up by tradition and "nobody would do that"

7

u/Guillk 1d ago

It's because most of them are "old" by today standards and based on pretty much narcissistic ideas that only "educated" and "noble" people would get/elected to power and be "honorable", newer nations and newer constitutions have safeguards but can also easily be eroded by a few, democracy is by definition a flawed system.

6

u/underisk 1d ago

He said the only time his conservative father approves of him is when he goes on fox and defends Israel.

69

u/JH_111 2d ago

John Stuart: “Do you think capitalism in its current configuration is helping Americans?” Asked several rephrased times in succession.

Fetterman: “Israel is where I draw the line.” Stuck in a brain reset loop.

I could feel Stuart’s “wtf” coming through my headphones.

20

u/The_Doctor_Bear 2d ago edited 2d ago

He talks fast and with a lot of words but they’re all fluff and mean basically nothing. As Jon tried to ask him about “is capitalism working” it was clear that he just could not understand the question. In Fetterman’s brain it’s just like two blinking bulbs “socialism bad” and “capitalism good” and further inspection of the ideas or their execution was just not a concept he could process.

I've known for a long time I'm voting against him in the primary, but I thought I'd still vote for him in the general if it came to that, because he was better than a Republican (Dr. Oz would have been worse overall for sure). Now I'd vote for the Republican because I'd rather him be unemployed and either way we'll have the same quality senator.

This is why we get a 2 party system and it sucks. You have to pick a side and if you decide to vote on the issue rather than with the party you are called names and cancelled.

The US will be divided until we get rid of this 2 party/pick a side/divisive system. Divided we fall.

7

u/Rock_Creek_Snark 2d ago edited 2d ago

Last time I looked closely at it, he was still voting with the Dems around 90% of the time.

But beyond the 10% voting with Republicans, it's the social media posting that boosts MAGA and TFG policies, the palling around with these assholes, the taking advice from cookie-giver Katie Britt on how to skip out on committee meetings, everything in the WSJ article last week.

He will announce the party jump on November 4 is my guess. I hope to God the Democrats have more than a one-vote majority.

2

u/TalespinnerEU 2d ago

He's got a 'redemption story:' "I came from the group of people who think they know better than you, but now, I have seen the light, I realize you were right all along, you were the best people all along, and I want to be one of you! Make me your leader!"

There's a lot of money and power in that. It's a strategy as old as time.

This is yet another reason why our two party system needs to go. So many times we're faced with the choice between a far right extremist and a right wing candidate posing as a Dem. Remember how excited reddit was about Kristen Sinema? She was a fraud too.

Hell, here in Kansas our Dem senate candidate pushing ads about how "both sides are too extreme" and he wants to be the candidate "for regular Americans", but he leads off the very same ad with scare tactics about socialism and open borders while not offering a single criticism of Trump or the GOP. And this guy is running as the Dem.

u/Bleezy79 2d ago

He used to be a progressive, then he hit his head and got brain damage. Now he loves Trump, go figure.

1

u/Fernandop00 2d ago

He's going to run as a republican in his reelection campaign. He knows he'll never win a Democratic primary, so he'll switch before then

1

u/TheFuns 1d ago

Dude votes 88% of the time with democrats, yes he sucks, but the right putting this guy on a pedestal just shows how fucking stupid they are.

1

u/cHEIF_bOI 1d ago

He's a thief! A criminal! He's a menace to the entire Senate! I want that Mussolini looking scoundrel prosecuted! I want Fetter-Man!

u/dysthal 1d ago

CIA : go right or we give you another stroke.

1

u/cletusthearistocrat 1d ago

No amount of money or prestige would be enough for me to do that.

1

u/fizzyfawr 1d ago

Titanic reference works either way honestly, Fetterman's out here giving two thumbs up to a sinking ship like it's a personal brand now.

1

u/Rashpukin 1d ago

Is there no way he can be deselected from standing for the Dems in the mid-terms?
This is a process in UK for MPs.

2

u/SNStains 1d ago

His term is through 2028. I expect he will draw a primary opponent and lose.

u/Capenurse 1d ago

Nobody likes a turncoat, not even the beneficiary.

it's a legitimate strategy to gain power... all the rats on the ship are leaving, so he jumps on to take their throne. it's all grift at the end of the day. f fetterman.

1

u/D3dshotCalamity 1d ago

We have a few Democrats that are just Republicans posing so they can swing any vote they want.

1

u/WafflePartyOrgy 1d ago

MAGA is the last refuge for the biggest, mentally disturbed and butthurt losers who need an echo chamber for constantly embarrassing themselves with an indefensible, self-serving "ideology" (which they probably adopted as a "deeply-held" belief within the last 4 years). So, of course Fetterman has joined the cult.

Good riddance

1

u/Old_Part_9619 1d ago

I'd blame the stroke but he was voted in with all his questionable decisions.

1

u/somerandomguy1984 1d ago

Fetterman is hysterical.

Dude has legit brain damage and runs as basically an illiterate communist.

As brain heals he becomes more and more conservative.

1

u/seEagle 1d ago

Double agent

1

u/carguy31 1d ago

1

u/Active-Strategy664 18h ago
