5k ain't life changing even for the worst cases of poverty. Lump sums are not as helpful as they initially sound. They'd blow through the 5k on everything they've been holding off on and then go right back to square one.
Really it's just a way to get more government money into the hands of those at the top. The money will funnel upwards to the 1% eventually and then they'll hoard it.

There is an ad against Osoff here in Georgia that goes. I'm a stay at home mom of two and my husband has to work two jobs to support us but Jon Osoff voted to raise our taxes TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS that's 2 months of grocery down the drain

If you can't afford to feed your kids, do what millions of other people have to do, get a job yourself Sarah, or ask your husband to get another one.
I also wish it was the 1950's and I could make a year of college tuition over the summer flipping burgers, and buying houses for $20k - but that's not gonna happen either.

I hear a lot of people say Trump supporters will just happily pay the higher prices for gas and food, trusting their President knows best. They'll put up with inflation and high interest rates and high housing costs.
But at some point, they run out of money. At some point it becomes literally impossible to take it anymore. And I think that's going to be happening more and more. Red states tend to be poorer. Assistance is being cut. There is no longer a safety net for a lot of these people.

Not that this handout would ever happen. No mention of this being tax free. Is this $5k before or after taxes? If it is $5k before taxes the real amount is going to be about $3,200 +/- depending upon how much is taken out for your tax bracket, Medicare, social security, state and local taxes.
