they keep doing this same move for twenty years now. find a inconvenient truth, spin it until the person telling it look like the problem. classic playbook stuff
the chyron just say "controversies" like he the one who made it messy, not the actual lies
47
u/ErickAllTE1 1d ago
Spin City came out in 1996. That was 30 years ago.
38
u/ILikeOatmealMore 1d ago
Virtually the entire reason the 1st Amendment included 'freedom of the press' is that the Founding Fathers were pretty rich and many of them owned their own newspapers and they wanted to be able to continue to have their own newspapers print shit about their political opponents and spin stories in their favor.
We can look even farther back to the monks whose lifetime job it was to hand scribe new copies of the bible deciding to change some words to better fit their world view.
We can look back even another 2000 years and Pharaoh Ramesses II’s account of the Battle of Kadesh against the Hittites. The Poem of Pentaur is an ancient Egyptian epic text that glorifies Pharaoh Ramesses II and his actions at the Battle of Kadesh around 1274 BC, but the truth is that he got routed and his soldiers fled the battle. But at least 8 copies of the Poem of Pentaur have been found on temple walls.
So, like, 'spin' is at least a 4000 year old phenomena, lol.

It's kinda like how on /r/roadcam someone can always find a way to make the video the fault of the cammer, even if the driver was in no way involved in the crash. They're probably in training to be Fox anchors.
13
u/Simba7 1d ago
"The other car passed aggressively and unsafely on the shoulder after weaving through traffic 20mph over the speed limit, but let's focus on how the cam car created an unsafe situation by taking too long passing by only going 5mph faster than the other lane of traffic."
Shit I have unironically seen said in those types of subs.

22
u/KingMobScene 1d ago
"Everyone was perfectly happy without this information!"
cut to a first responder who would like to say they're no perfectly happy but cant because theyre dead from working at ground zero
61
u/Your_Mella 1d ago
Wait, so he honored the 3000 who died on 9/11 AND the 9000 first responders who died after because they were lied to about the air? Yeah, what a monster.
20
u/technomat 1d ago
It's actually worse as the President has at least 4 different lies about 9/11 and the latest is the biggest lie of all and I guarantee they won't point out he was nowhere near the building and that pretty much his first interview after the buildings fell he was pleased he had the tallest building in Manhattan I think that is about making 9/11 about you more than Mandani!
11
u/punktualPorcupine 1d ago
But that might affect their dear old buddy Giuliani and they can’t have him on to Mamdani-bash.
11
u/Largeitude 1d ago
Is that even spin? They just said two opposite things. “Mamdani made it about himself by making it about the first responders” sounds like the spin-writer had the intern write it.
8
u/ZeroMocha 1d ago
They’ll do the same if someone reveals the Epstein files. “Look at all these poor politicians that have been fired”
7
u/Riverat627 1d ago
That’s because the one who lied was a republican, if it was a Democrat they would be all over it.
4
u/lifesnofunwithadhd 1d ago
He could release proof the cia as behind 9/11 and they've blast him for ruining a uniting moment for this country.
3
u/bugdiver050 1d ago
And saying he is the one making it about himself and not tronald dump who literally made a story up about how he was carried away by firefighters
3
3
u/RilohKeen 1d ago
Yeah, only “if I can’t give a speech then I don’t wanna go, and also I lied about being at ground zero” Trump is allowed to make 9/11 all about him.

u/osiris0413 1d ago
If Mamdani cured cancer the chyron would say "Mamdani faces criticism for putting thousands of doctors out of work".

So many MAGA chuds don't know how time works. Fox could probably convince them that he was the one who covered them up to begin with. Afterall, I've seen them blame Obama for 9/11 and Biden for Covid.

u/knitted-sweater 1d ago
Ohh so that’s why they’re not releasing the Epstein files, they don’t want to make it about themselves! How humble of them! (/s)

I bet he’d do unspeakable things as president, like make the 250th birthday of the nation about his own birthday!
237
u/rtopps43 1d ago
I, honestly I can’t even connect the dots here. How is releasing documents that show the government lied to people about the dangers of breathing in Manhattan following 9/11 “making it about himself”? It’s literally the opposite, he’s putting the focus on the first responders. I don’t know how these people function on a daily basis. Do they wake up, have trouble finding a sock and grumble “damn democrats”?
86
u/Away_Stock_2012 1d ago
>Do they wake up, have trouble finding a sock and grumble “damn democrats”?
Yes, they literally do this. This is why they made up TDS, because they have this in their heads all day.
17
u/Dull-Culture-1523 17h ago
TDS is just a thought-terminating cliché they use. You criticize Trump, they claim you have TDS and so they think that's it. There's no need to even examine what you said. Because you suffer from TDS.
There's no discussing or arguing with these people.
137
u/IUsedToBeACave 1d ago
Because people talked about it in a positive way, and that means Mamdani only did it to make himself look better. These Trump cult worshipers cannot fathom a politician who does things because their job is to build a better community.
21
15
u/No_Throat_2356 1d ago
They take all the valid criticisms of Trump and throw them at figures on “the left” so their idiot viewers will associate that phrase “making it about himself” with someone besides Trump. There’s no need for other logic or truth behind the accusation - they’re just gluing sounds to another name/face to protect their idiot god.
11
8
u/BananaPalmer 22h ago
Why do you think "Thanks, Obama" became a meme? Yes, they quite literally blame every bad thing in their entire life on Democrats/liberals/"the left"/"the gays"/etc. They're psychotic.

The next Democratic president needs to yank their licenses. Apparently, that is fair game for presidents now.

Itll be illegal as fuck when the next president is sworn in. Republicans are all of the sudden gonna wanna play by the rules and the constitution again, but the democrats need to show them the skid marks that they left all over it and go scorched earth for 8 years
26
u/Intellectual-Hamster 1d ago
Yeah, there needs to be a Jolly Roger flag and no quarter given... None of this turn the other cheek, they go low, we go high bullshit. You can't play by one set of rules and let the opponents go do whatever the fuck they want with no consequences.

Basically tons of toxic or otherwise dangerous stuff like asbestos in the air and officials telling people everything was safe.
134
u/MedicSH84 1d ago
Great. Free cancer. Man, that sucks.

u/_DuranDuran_ 1d ago
Jon Stewart has been fighting the fight for them as well for YEARS.
60
u/MedicSH84 1d ago
Let me guess. There was no compensation at all?

u/_DuranDuran_ 1d ago
There was some, then republicans tried to cut it and he tore them a new asshole. The video of him eviscerating then is glorious.
27
u/MedicSH84 1d ago
Good to know, that there are people fighting
61
u/Acceptable-Bell142 1d ago
Sadly, the politician who fought for years to get the first responders the medical care they needed was Hillary Clinton.

u/stevez_86 1d ago
When they tore down the East Wing of the White House it was really expedited. That building is old and had some remediation for hazardous material, but that speedy of a demolition would have released anything else that was there. Those people that helped demolish the East Wing of the White House should probably get attorneys for health issues that will come from that.
6
u/-TheInternetIsEvil- 23h ago
Him being awarded Ray Pfeifer's jacket before that congressional testimony, or the video of him eulogizing Ray just show how much Jon really cares about this issue. These guys were his friends, and now they're gone. These people are the best of america. They were brave and selfless in the face of terror and it's aftermath. They deserve better.

50,000 documented cases of cancer in NYC residents who worked on the cleanup effort and lived in the area
10
u/BuryTomorrowToday 1d ago
It's reported that more people died from the aftermath of 9/11 then from the attack itself.
20
u/Prestigious-Bat-574 1d ago
I'm sure there was asbestos, but more than that it was literal building debris in the air.
People who were in the surrounding areas when the towers fell and people around during clean up have pulverized glass and airborne concrete dust permanently lodged in their lungs.
10
106
u/russrobo 1d ago
The first twelve stories of the Twin Towers were built with asbestos fire insulation around the buildings’ cores. Activists found that out and publicized it in order put a stop to it, with the Port Authority arguing that it wasn’t a factor because there was no way for all that asbestos to ever be released into the environment.
The activists had existing law on their side, and the plaintiffs accepted that leaving the completed 12 floors alone was safer than chiseling out the asbestos (and greatly delaying the towers’ completion). The rest of the floors used a different insulator.
As the tragedy unfolded 25 years ago today, officials wisely closed all of lower Manhattan. The exclusion zone was gradually reduced over months, with repeated, extensive cleanups of building exteriors, air handling equipment, and so on. The officials knew the dust was extremely hazardous.
But they didn’t tell first responders, who started developing symptoms and started to inquire about possible compensation. Faced with monstrous liability stemming from that ill-dated decision to use asbestos in the first place, and the large number of plaintiffs, The Bush administration and Port Authority compounded the grief by flat-out denying that any hazard ever existed and worked to deny every claim. They told people they’d done tests and that it was perfectly safe, leading to more people being exposed during the ongoing cleanup.
NYC’s mayor at the time: Rudy Giuliani.

Rudy Giuliani killed Batman.
Kevin Conroy, voice of Batman, was a volunteer cook at Ground Zero for weeks. He died of intestinal cancer, that could be related to his exposure. Rudy lied about how bad the area was, and buried the truth. He is the fucking Penguin, and he killed Batman.

3
u/ShimmeryShay 23h ago
Right, I’m guessing they’re mad because Mamdani’s name is showing up in tons of news articles about the release of the 9/11 files, so they somehow equate that to him making it about himself. Obvious projection when Trump bragged about his building being the tallest right after the second tower was hit and now is claiming to have been there saving lives and that he was trapped in the rubble and shit, which is all a lie and him actually making it all about himself.
11
u/LarianDivinityBG3 1d ago
That's what you get when news companies are owned by private entity's.
