My mom was pregnant with me when it happened, and she was in the hospital because my pregnancy gave her preeclampsia, and my dad was super tired and groggy that morning got a phonecall from his sister who lives in New York right across the river from where the twin towers were, which meant she saw it happen live right from her window
She was completely freaking out and talking so fast that he couldn't understand her at all, and my mom in the hospital bed across the room said to him in fright "come look at the TV" because it was showing the footage, and my dad said "...did one of the towers just fall?" And my aunt screamed into his ear "BOTH OF THEM!"
According to my parents, the doctors at the hospital all stayed professional and kept their backs to the TV and just kept doing their job while my parents were both gawping with their eyes glued at the TV on the wall corner of the hospital room
My god. Bless those doctors… they knew if they did turn around they couldn’t take care of your mom (and you).
Living on the west coast, I’ve been removed from the enormity of it but visited NYC for the first time in 2022 and went to the memorial site. It shook me to realize its scale. I didn’t grow up with sky scrapers so seeing what was is devastating.
I’m glad you got to come into the world safely and hope your family is doing well. Give your mom and aunt a hug for me.
