I was in middle school, and sent home. My siblings were younger, and the schools kept them. Both my parents worked, so I went home alone, turned on the tv, and watched it all happen knowing my grandfather was supposed to be in the Pentagon that day.
(He was in a separate part and was ok, but we didn't learn that for almost 3 days with everything going on)
We all got called into the library and the tv on rollers with the antenna was tuned into the news channel…
I don’t remember anything of the day after that. I don’t remember going home, I don’t remember reading for the day, I don’t remember continuing studies…

That’s terrible and I can’t imagine what that must have felt like.
I am also deeply curious… your uncle took Polaroids in Iraq of destroyed homes? Did he travel with the film and camera? How long was he deployed? How expired was the film once he shot it? What kind of Polaroid camera would he have taken? He was allowed to take photos while deployed of destroyed homes? Is it a normal thing to take Polaroids on deployments? I just have so many questions
He was deployed in Desert Storm for sure. He later went back to Iran, Iraq, and Kuwait years later. Not sure how he got a camera and all that over there, like I said, I was in 5th grade and not asking those technical questions. All I remember about that is how my cousin would cry for weeks after he left on the bus each time.
