Oh man how sick would a RE7 movie be? They could make that shit TERRIFYING especially if it was first person like the Blair Witch
Honestly all solid picks too. As long as it's not RE6

I’d love a found footage RE7 movie of one of the previous Baker family victims. They could just make it about the Sewer Gators, the team that we play as in the vhs tapes

Well Zack Cregger said that RE4 and 7 are his main source of inspiration

A movie about RE2 with inspiration from 4 and 7 is gonna be wild.

Honestly that snow scene in the trailer and the cabin gave me more RE Village vibes than RE7, but to me it's clear the main influence is Ethan Winters which is a perfect choice for a standalone movie
The trailer reassured me that it definitely has that RE Feeling, i just hope he understands that the final chapter of the movie needs to be a power fantasy, honestly something straight out of evil dead would be amazing

Isn't it 2 adjacent?

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 1h ago
Correct. Technically a 3 adjacent too.
It follows the events of raccoon City during the initial outbreak from the point of view of some guy. Most importantly not Leon or Jill

But i heard is not even in racoon city

They literally say in one of the trailers that his organ run is to Raccoon City General.

stg, it’s like the RE fans want to be mad. If this exact same plot was pitched to them as RE10 they’d eat it up like candy.

That’s what it’s supposed to be, but it also seemingly takes place in modern day since the protagonist has a smartphone which definitely didn’t exist in 1998

Yeah, in the movie's canon they shifted the events of RE2 in terms of time of year and, well, year.
The director has stated in interviews he wanted to do an ajacent story, but also didn't want to be restrained by the period (holy crap it feels to call the 90s a 'period' piece.) Which honestly? I don't really have a problem with. Would it be NICE to see it flat out set in '98? Yeah, but at the same time nothing in Resident Evil is inherently tied to it's origins in the 90s. It's not like Y2K was a major plot point in one of the games, or that the lack of now modern technology forced any specific plot direction. It just a game that the devs set during the same year they developed it. If anything the movie's timeline actually makes the story work better because now all this crazy shit isn't being done on computers with 32MB of RAM.
It's also the reason it's in winter, he just wanted to use snow for atmosphere, which again, I don't have a problem with. If shifting the story some months to the side builds a better atmosphere it'll be a good idea, and it isn't like this movie is going to suddenly be retconning the games, it'll just be it's own story.
Honestly nothing about this adaptation is anywhere nearly as offensive as the Paul "I literally only make movies to put my wife in as an uninteresting Mary Sue" Anderson films. Or the one we don't fucking talk about.

“I don’t know! The evil one? I think it’s about an evil hospital worker! I love those kind of drama shows!”

Technically none of them. It's a side story taking place in the same universe, around the time of the initial outbreak in Raccoon City
•
u/Valriss 19m ago
Hell, technically it's not even in the same universe, the movie is its own canon.
The outbreak occours in 2026 in this movie, although director has at least made statements that show the events of RE1/2/3 ARE still occouring, just in 2026. This movie won't be canon to the rest of the series.

The funny thing is that it's just not following any specific game.
It's its own story in racoon city.

It's funny because this movie isn't based on any game in particular, it's not even set within the same universe. It's telling its own story with its own characters in its own universe.

A game-accurate Resident Evil 1 would be a nightmare. It'd look great, but the characters would go back and forth to the safe room all the time. It'd be a 10 hour movie with 3 hours of action.

Basically think of it like RE Outbreak which was more the pov of random survivors and not all the same red fields and leon
