100%. A simple “pay your bill now or get arrested” was all the needed to say. I get they don’t want to make an issue of it but if the bill was going to be paid ever he could have paid it himself and has his friend Venmo him the cost. The bill clearly wasn’t going to get paid.
0% chance, he was just trying to spin a story good enough to get them to back off long enough for him to slip away and bounce. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't have the mental faculties required to pull of such a scam so I hope they either forced him to charge it to Credit or arrested his ass.
This kinda stuff makes me really wonder who they think they're fooling. Some people lie so terribly it just looks like they don't gaf and just spit out whatever, like everyone will just believe them. What environment does someone have to be in for them to believe this bad acting?

Save you are on Federal property now, and cases go to Federal Courts, which means much less likely chance of leniency and more likely to get significant fines and/or jail time.
This is not true. Nearly all airport cases stay in state court and there isn’t a federal district in the entire country that would take a dine n dash theft case.
Depends, I got called to testify as a witness and had to report to the US District Court for Eastern Michigan, a Federal Level court. Had to fly across the country on my dime and loss of work time otherwise I would be held in contempt. Guy had too much to drink and caused a fight past the checkpoint area at DTW, somewhere in the fight the guy slammed into me when fighting off police and afterwards police took my name down, so I got called into the case. (Pre-zoom days). Wasn't f'in happy about it.
I'm not sure if he started the scam with the key on a key ring, but holding out a single key for this scam makes it seem super obvious what he's up to.

it’s insane the shit i’ve gotten away with in airports…looked out of my mind too…i’ve seen so many vids lately of people ditching their bill wasted at airports lately. they must be cracking down. i feel awful but when i was an alcoholic i racked up obscene bills and just walked away. it makes me sick to think about it but I was a degenerate alcoholic with a slick mouth that somehow always got served. I’m middle eastern hairy and 6’1 I stick out like a sore thumb. I swear i have guardians getting me out of insane shit . Plenty of lessons learned tho.
Why they trippin? He was going to give them the key to his car. It’s not like he could drive off. I loaned a dude I just met $5,000 because he let me hold on to his car keys. He was supposed to be back last month to pay me back and get his key back. I know he’s coming back because I still have his car keys. Not like he drove off or anything
