Is there no camera button on Android? I feel like if you have to tap the screen then taking photos one handed is almost impossible.

it can be configured to use as a side button. not sure why this person did not do that

Most men don't do selfies, so they don't need the button to make a photo.

I doubt this. I be seeing men taking a lot of selfies. Not as much as women but they def do

Some guys do, but the number of guys who don't take selfies is going to be way higher then the number of women who don't.

I've only used Androids and I didn't know this feature existed.

EDIT: apparently, you just need to press the up and down volume button at the same time. Just a thick thumb press.

DOUBLEEDIT: YEP, just hit the volume button.

TRIPLEEDIT: apparently, if we so much has breathe in the general direction of an Android phone while the camera is on, the camera will magic.

QUADRUPLEDIT: big shoutout to u/lazy_animator's son on his birthday, coming straight from my Galaxy Ultra's front camera.

I just tried it on my Pixel and it works with either volume button, you don't have to hit both.

can confirm

on s26 ultra, the power button can be assigned. but, the default is pressing either the up or down volume button just one or the other not a combo.

Yes. You can also press the shutter button and have it take the picture after 2, 5, 10 seconds.

You can also show a palm at it and it doesn't have to be the person holding the phone.

If it's a samsung with the pen thing, then you can also press the button on the pen to take a picture

I've had Android phones since 2010. How did I not know you could do this? 😂

jesus what are we doing anymore.

It will be. But Samsung and Pixel, for example, have the volume and power buttons switched on the side. I do the same as her trying to use my work phone versus my own phone.

u/Rpowell97 4h ago

No mmm

u/RockItGuyDC 13h ago

Both volume up and volume down take a picture on my Samsung. Pretty sure most Android phones are the same. Although, someone could probably configure it to be something else (which is why a lot of us use Android).

u/TreesForTheForest 14h ago

Lots of different android models, but on one of the biggest, Google Pixel, it's the volume buttons by default (which a lot of Pixel users don't even realize).

u/Spreaderoflies 13h ago

I've had pixels since gen 6 and I'm just now learning this I am furious and appreciative.

I am an Android Developer and this is new to me.

3

u/gymtrovert1988 14h ago

I just realized it. I never use my camera though.

2

u/engmadison 14h ago

Well today I learned something

2

u/martix_agent 13h ago

I don't take a lot of photos on my pixel, but this good to know

2

u/mbison42 12h ago

yep learned something new today!

2

u/kram_02 13h ago

There is.. volume up or down takes the photo.. there's 3 buttons over there and she could only be bothered to press one of them lol. double tapping the power button even opens the camera app.

2

u/mrbishopjackson 13h ago

It's the volume button(s). The people who own that phone just don't know what they're doing if they're telling her she HAS to use the onscreen button.

1

u/Happy_Brilliant7827 13h ago

Androids can set their hotkey to be what they want. Its not always defaulted to camera

1

u/Both-Rock2762 13h ago

Found the lifelong iPhone user.

1

u/Terranshadow 13h ago

For most it's the volume down button. She's just pressing the wrong one.

1

u/Puzzled-Pen-2353 13h ago

It's not impossible.

1

u/Zayah136 11h ago

Always has been on samsungs, pixels too. The feature is older than the iphone actually

1

u/Ohio_Hobbies_Guy 7h ago

For me its the down volume button when the camera is open

1

u/wegpleur 7h ago

Ofcourse there is. You can customize the button functionality. He might have just changed it

1

u/Whole_Presence8100 6h ago

You show your hand and it takes a photo. Ingenious I know

1

u/Joshix1 6h ago

There is. Double tap the lock button to open the camera immediately, hit the volume button (up or down both work) to take a picture.

1

u/Eraldorh 6h ago

On my Xiaomi phone you take a picture by pressing either up or volume down. But it starts a count down from 2 not instantly.

1

u/Seven_Hawks 6h ago

Usually the volume buttons will function as shutter buttons. It's not difficult.

1

u/Mysterious_Bar_5188 4h ago

Sure. Vol- usually.

1

u/FroggyAssassin 3h ago

If you got small hands or poor form. Pinky on/supporting the bottom, pointer on side of the phone(or back), other two fingers on the back, press screen with thumb. Easy. Not impossible by any means.

u/Fufumen 45m ago

Volumen up or down button to take a picture on Android

1

u/Sinking_Mass 14h ago

Not if you've got big ol' man hands

11

u/Hot-Challenge8656 14h ago

Double power brings up the camera then press volume, easy.

2

u/mikeumm 14h ago

Triple power on mine auto dials 911. Found that out by mistake trying to turn my music down.

6

u/SCHWARZENPECKER 13h ago

Hi 911? Can you turn my music down please?

2

u/Both-Rock2762 13h ago

It's not 3x. It's 5x.

1

u/mikeumm 13h ago

Thanks I really wasn't sure how many times I pressed it. Just panicked lol

2

u/echo_nightmare_black 13h ago

Thank you! I had just added a button to my lock screen but this is much easier to access and get it to work the first try.

2

u/purrmutations 13h ago

Whoa, I won't remember this but that is a great tip

2

u/hilbo90 7h ago

How long has this been the case? Please say it was an update a week ago so I don't feel like ive been fumbling selfies for 10 years. 😅

1

u/Hot-Challenge8656 7h ago edited 5h ago

I found this shortcut when I had my note 8. So over ten years, sorry bud.

Edit 8 not 7

1

u/SCHWARZENPECKER 13h ago

Well what do you know! It works.

3

u/RedzMenace 13h ago

Ive had both and can use both

2

u/AdSad4754 13h ago

Android-double click power button opens camera app even if phone is locked, double click power with camera open and it swaps between cameras

1

u/RepresentativeFly457 4h ago

Power button opens wallet not camera?

1

u/AdSad4754 3h ago

You've probably schemed it that way then. Natively however, it opens camera

Samsung Galaxy PhonesOpen Settings.Scroll down and tap Advanced features.Select Side key (or Side button).Under the Double press section, toggle the switch to Off, or select a different function like the flashlight or another app. 1Google Pixel and Stock Android Phones (Motorola, Sony, Fairphone)Open Settings.Tap System.Select Gestures.Tap Quickly open camera (or Double-press power button).Turn the toggle Off to disable it.

Android is not compatible with iPhone women

1

u/Abecis01 13h ago

Looks like a pleasant time there

1

u/Worth-Computer8639 11h ago

They also have some sort of voice detection in them now. If you say cheese it does a 3 second timer.

1

u/splendidvociferous 6h ago

Android you can set it how you like. I use palm gesture - I just show my palm to camera and it starts a 3 seconds countdown. (So in this case, all she would have to do is point it towards us and I'd take the photo via gesture control)

1

u/kutkun 6h ago

Android is regret.

1

u/Dlairt 5h ago

I have a dream like this every once in a while.

I meet some celebrity who agrees to a selfie but nether of us can work out my phone for some reason and they get frustrated and leave. I wake up annoyed that I can’t do something that should be simple and I missed out on imaginary selfie 🫣

1

u/elimatei 3h ago

Coming from an iPhone my Samsung is a breath of fresh air. Both os can take photo with either volume button.

1

u/SnooHabits3911 3h ago

At least she went back and kept trying. Kinda wholesome

1

u/loader96loaded 14h ago

Her hands are too small for that big ass phone that the thumb would need extending to take a pic

1

u/ai_ismygod_now 13h ago

Who is she? She is beautiful.

u/Fresh-Toilet-Soup 13h ago

Should we know who this is?

Doing your part to reinforce the stereotype of Apple absolutists thinking that which brands you own is a measure of stature. It's a phone bro. The logo on it doesn't mean shit.

0

u/zahi36501 13h ago

I have the fold 8 wide (Samsung)

Volume up or down takes pictures, holding onto volume down or up takes burst shots, in video mode volume does same thing.

u/Fresh-Ad5925 13h ago

Yeah, she hot, not smart
