yeah the ceremonial piece is the required one, but a lot of Sikhs also carry other weapons, including firearms. People seems to think that Sikhs are pacifists. This is not true. Peace is preferable, but sometimes direct action is needed.

The reason for targeting and indian man, is because the last several years have seen mass immigration from India in the form of temporary foreign workers and or students. Which some Canadian blame for cost of living, hinderances access to healthcare and other services, and integrating into canadian society and norms. A very "they took our jobs" mentality also was borne from this, and with anti immigration sentiment on the rise around the world, it also exists in Canada too. In some cases cowards like this punk kid act on their adopted ideology, and then get arrested and fuck the next couple years of their life up as a consequence.
Doubly sad he went after an old man too, grandpa has probably been in Canada long before that kid was even born, lol.

Tbf, there is some credence to the "they took our jobs" mentality. Indians becoming managers and then only hiring Indians, especially in tech, is something that has been observed in many countries and companies over a long period of time.
There are a lot of threads on Reddit itself with people discussing and complaining about this phenomenon, started by people across all races and political divides. I see Indians in canada doing totally normal things like bathing in rivers (yes, Canadian campers and trekkers do it all the time, there are designated swim and bath spots in many areas) and the comments are going apeshit like they're setting the rivers on fire.

The Indians only hiring Indians is real though. I work for a major company and for 15 years I've been one of the only white people in the entire building that I worked in. Only recently have they started hiring other white people. I only briefly around 10 years had any role in hiring and it was short lived. And I only hired Indians too ironically enough. I don't particularly care though and just get jealous when they hire someone white since it removes one of my unique traits.

This makes me sad, Im the son of immigrants. The old sikh man reminds me of my Grandpa, he came to this country in the sixties, worked as lumber jack and mill worker 16 hour days to put food on the table. They were paid half the wage of the equivalent white labor and subjected to this type of racism every day, its been over 2 generations and still seeing this. I cant help but feel like I dont belong in my own country.
