Your mom and I are the same age and apparently appreciate the same early Internet humor. Say hi to your mom for me.

Haha I shall

My mom would definitely love this. I'll have to share it. 😆

Never underestimate the Elder Millennial

36

u/im_just_thinking 14h ago

Damn, I was like wym elder millennial at 45, but then realized that's legit..

We are the generation that bridges the gap between tech aversive boomers and tech dependent Gen Z +

Shout out to Gen X.

The Elder Millenials are the only generation that have lived in the before times and the after times. We were there for pay phones, collect calls, the birth of cell phones and the modern Internet, computer labs to computers on our phones, school lunch tickets to paying for our kids lunches on the web. Online gaming, to paying by check or money order and 6-8 weeks for delivery to ordering online and having it at your house in less than an hour.

Dialup to broadband. Nights and weekends and on-peak, off-peak hours. Collect calls to Venmo.

It's been a trip. Waiting for the blockbuster movie/best seller novel that encapsulates this epic journey of our generation.

It's been there since at least 2008, she's literally the funniest person I know

I remember working retail in the early nineties when everyone wanted the Tickle-me-Elmo at Christmas, either for somebody’s kid or to scalp them in the newspaper.

They’d walk in go “Do you have the Ti-“

“No. Nobody does.”

u/moving0target 15h ago

I survived that one as well as two different Playstation wars.

1

u/CharcoalGreyWolf 15h ago

For me, Black & Decker Snakelight and probably a few more

1

u/NetworkingForFun 13h ago

For me it was KB Toys during Christmas and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

1

u/flippingchicken 15h ago

Well, that still hasn't changed, except at this moment it's needohs/squishies.

4

u/CharcoalGreyWolf 14h ago

In retail, there’s almost always one thing for children and one thing for adults that everybody has to have for their relatives at Christmas.

In the adult case, it’s usually the gift that people buy for someone when they have no idea what to get them. In the kid world, it’s whatever every kid decides they want for Christmas as a result of peer pressure (everybody’s getting it!) Be it the original Air Jordans at $100 a pair, or a specific model of skateboard, or a Thighmaster.

u/flippingchicken 14h ago

Yeah, a few years ago it was hatchimals, and before that it was probably fidget spinners or something. People always gotta have the "new thing" everyone else has. Next year it'll be something else.

2

u/CharcoalGreyWolf 14h ago

Tamagotchi to Ripstik scooters and more.

60 percent of the stuff at minimum will either be a dud or something that is popular for six months and then found in a garage sale four years later.

5

u/Tonto151 16h ago

"Since at least 2008." Yeah, that tracks. This was peak comedy back then.

u/davewave3283 13h ago

I’m a bit jealous. I love my mother but she is as funny as a damp rag.

u/WearyAsparagus7484 17h ago

We are a fun age. Those of us that haven't lost our minds, that is

2

u/osi_layer_one 15h ago

have you checked the lost & found?

1

u/moving0target 15h ago

I'm more fun without mine...or is it my filter...?

6

u/Neoxite23 17h ago

Remind me of Tickle Me Hello.

Tickle him once he laughs with glee! Tickle him twice and he vibrates as he laughs uncontrollably! Tickle him three times he starts to question the nature of the relationship!

One of my friends got me the original Tickle me Elmo when they came out, half gag gift. It was a birthday gift - just a few months before they became "THE Christmas present of the year". I was already in college. But damn if that thing wasn't way popular among everyone in the dorm.
We all cracked up making Elmo shake with laughter. Even more so if it Alcohol was involved.

I still have Elmo, and he is still in pretty damn good condition.

4

u/GrincherZ 16h ago

I remember my dad and my old step mom got us one of the tickle me Elmo’s in the 90s when they came out.

People were trampled to death buying these mfs

We got it - like 5 of us kids age 7-10 or something and all we did was punch him in the nuts to make him say “ah ha he he that tickles”

2

u/Dist__ 17h ago

change my pitch up

3

u/XawdrenRS 17h ago

Thought this was r/bertstrips for a second.

3

u/razzi123 13h ago

Dont forget, that "Tickle Me Elmos" came out of the factory tested.
with just 2 test tickles"

4

u/robpaul2040 17h ago

That's still in a file on my work computer :p

3

u/Debalic 16h ago

Yup, Xennials are a weird bunch. 👍🏼

2

u/fripperiffic 15h ago

I still remember seeing this somewhere when it first appeared. I am 44, and this definitely brought back some great memories, thanks for sharing!

2

u/SirNortonOfNoFux 11h ago

That's like the cookie monster in family guy who heats up cookie dough on a spoon lmao

1

u/MutantApocalypse 16h ago

Lookup "Knee-high Park." You're welcome.

1

u/cliqclaqstepback 15h ago

Your mom is my kind of people.

0

u/algernonradish 17h ago

RFK Jr finna downvote that asap.

0

u/Budget-Box7914 14h ago

Now she just needs Narcan Kermit on her fridge... just to be safe.

-1

u/NoPudding1885 9h ago

The fact that this was apparently normal advertising back then is the unhinged part. Imagine seeing this on a fridge and thinking “yep, totally appropriate for a child.”

0

u/Jazzlike-Rise4091 4h ago

I didn't even understand it until I was 13 so

0

u/RF-Guye 16h ago

Reminds me of the rocket man out in Bend Oregon...He wanted to create a line of toys called building a brighter future. If the kid was too dumb to play with it, it killed them!

Sure, there's gonna be some accidental deads, but My hope for the greater good is all in...who'swithMe?

0

u/CaptainPunisher 10h ago

I remember this.

-2

u/Hour_Trip_9890 11h ago

That’s weird.

-3

u/Patient-Telephone122 15h ago

Why do I feel sad seeing innocence ruined? Because we can’t have absolute peace on earth?

0

u/ubcoo-ibcoo 16h ago

Sir this is Reddit. When we address op we do that. Maybe the chat should at least learn today convulses is spelled like that.

Yet again... Rule #2: NO MEMES
