Mentioning a currency in rupees and lakhs does not translate to people outside India, so this person did everyone a favor and did the conversion. Not every comment needs to have a point.

Still, conversion should be included in the title. Although, I personally think that considering economic differences between countries, a common denominator such as proportion to minimum wage would be even better.

They do this in other subs too. I keep seeing lakhs in posts from indians on EU job subreddits, they either seriously think everyone knows what lakh is and how much it is in euros, or they just dgaf.

So what should the default be? USD? Not everyone is from the US. Also 1/6th of the world are Indians. The commenter was doing the right thing as a Reddit user and providing helpful context.

Yeah, ofc. For most countries the most used currency in their country after their own currency is USD. It's the standard default for global commerce and this is an global platform.

Or we can all use whatever currency we want and people who want a conversion can either spend the 2 seconds it takes to type "Lakh to USD" into google, or wait for someone else to give a conversion.

No, I meant local minimum wage.
If I tell you someone stole 100 thousand PLN, it's (probably) meaningless to you. But if I add information that it's approximately 27,75 monthly net minimum wages, that's context for this specific economy.
Also I'm not denying anywhere that commenter did helpful thing by providing conversion.

Possibly. It's surprisingly not uncommon in here India because it's legally free and they'd do anything to save money. But the funny thing is, back around 2020, I saw a big hospital here using—I kid you not—Windows 98 on all of their computers.

It's an Indian unit of measurement. After thousands, each new unit of measure kicks in after 2 additional zeroes.
1 lakh = 100,000 1 crore = 10 million (1,00,00,000) 1 arab = 1 billion (1,00,00,00,000)
It's pronounced uh-rub, not arab. Though I'm sure it works with the other pronounciation too in some cases
