my cats are well fed everyday and will still act like this when we bust out the wet food

I don't feed my cat. She goes out and hunts rats and bandicoots.

But occasionally when she's pregnant she'll come asking and I'll make her an egg.

(She's a stray hence why I'm not able to neuter her)

Edit: stray cats are not invasive in India. They are indigenous and thus not considered a threat to bird population levels.

In our cities we have stray dogs, cats, monkeys, bats, bandicoots, mongoose, cows, peacocks etc.

I can't . Because she's never even let me touch her.

Also in India it's not as big of a thing because cats are not an invasive species. They've been here forever and so it's not really an issue to the bird population, and the cat population is pretty stagnant as well.

I fed a feral one for almost a year before she allowed me to pet her.

I've been friends with this cat for 3+ years now. I've met her kittens, her boyfriends etc , well hang out a foot apart. She'll come sleep in my house on cold nights, she'll hang out with me while I have coffee in the garden. But we've never touched.

The invasion is over and done with, the cats won hundreds of years ago lol. I wonder how many years it takes for a species to be classified as native instead of invasive.

What makes you think cats invaded? We have wild versions of housecats in the jungles.

After coming to human settlements they did become slightly smaller but not by much

Edit: guys I was wrong it is mostly the desert wildcat of middle East and North Africa that first got domesticated and spread thousands of years ago with humans .

Yknow i too was wondering the same thing. And so I went down this rabbit hole (cat hole?)

But it looks like you are right. All domestic cats are predominantly descendents of the middle East and North African wild cat. Basically cats domesticated with the dawn of civilization. And as humans spread out from the middle East and migrated/traded with india, China and Europe, their cats followed them.

Now sometimes these cats did occasional mate with local wildcats and formed hybrids, but their dna is still predominantly the desert wild cat .

East Asia was mostly River / Leopard cats, with latter additions through trade routes.
