Legitimately days like today remind me how Reddit is filled with the most miserable mother fuckers on earth. This looks fantastic and I’m so jacked up to play it.
13
u/Xxviii_28 4d ago
Umm actually the facial details on Link and Zelda are slightly off-putting and I will therefore be skipping the entire game. On an unrelated subject, why can I no longer experience joy? /s

Man Reddit is getting exponentially more miserable. You guys hate literally everything now.
My opinion is it looks absolutely amazing. So excited. My only gripe is young zelda and clearly the switch 2 struggles a bit.

Every sub is just miserable people, especially the gaming sub. If it’s not a 500 hour RPG, everybody hates it.
This sub also has a weird hate boner for Nintendo.

The fact that they made the choice to show us all the Zelda games we could access, clearly showing Twilight Princess is missing, really stung.
9
u/hauser255 4d ago
I wouldn't be surprised if they announced it for NSO during tomorrow's direct with 1 or 2 other gamecube games. I wouldnt be surprised if they didn't announce it either, Nintendo really marches to the beat of their own drum.
14
u/Known_Appointment604 4d ago
Yeah but you’d think a Zelda direct would be the time and place to reveal it. Like they did with galaxy 1 and 2 during the Mario 40 direct..

u/Josdesloddervos 4d ago
I love them, but Nintendo is so strange sometimes. In the bit about the restaurant they talked about 'the views' while literally showing some corrugated metal roofing and siding with a couple of props. Who does that...?
37
u/SaveADay89 4d ago
I said it another thread. Game looks amazing, but I hate the anime voice acting.

Yep, this is where I am with it. I have zero problem with the graphics or the art style, but the fucking saccharin voice acting is killing me.
35
u/Xxviii_28 3d ago
Don't love the voice acting. Prefer the old UI. But honestly... who gives a shit?
Gamers have conditioned themselves to smother their joy with cynicism; an exercise that leads absolutely nowhere. I'm ready to relive one of my favourite childhood games with a beautiful new coat of paint.

People complaining about no Twilight Princess is a bit weird. They're about to release a remake of OoT, why would they distract from that with a TP release

u/Red2397 4d ago
That was incredible. Although I was wishing for another announcement I am reminding myself that the OoT remake itself is huge
Also glad they over explained. There are going to be plenty of people who only played BotW or TotK and would be wondering why adding a jump button is significant. No complaints
31
u/Negative_Strain_5234 3d ago
I am still very excited, but it is funny how similar OoT looks to that fan made UE remake scam that lasted for like a decade and never finished.

Would love a return to non-open world Zelda games. This just really makes me miss the personality and variety all of the dungeons and locations had. BotW and TotK, though they were very cool, lacked a lot of that imo.

I played the original on n64 when I was a kid
I played the 3ds version and master quest when I was a teenager
Now I’ll play the final version as an adult. Thanks you for making this game again. I just hope they didn’t cut master quest but yeah the graphics are insane

u/PostedNotes 3d ago
After watching the trailer I think it overall looks solid.
The children character models look pretty weird tho. Kid Zeldas face especially looked off.
I hope the inevitable success of this game shows Nintendo there is still a market for the traditional Zelda formula

u/NovaRogue 4d ago
Okaayyy that new trailer for OoT was INCREDIBLE. Twinrova looks amazing, the Gerudo Fortress, the huge statue outside the Spirit Temple, even the wildflowers in Hyrule Field... PHENOMENAL
And it looks like you can easily swap boots, like when you're in the Water Temple 👀
→ More replies (1)
24
u/JosefInstallin 4d ago
I'll assume they've adjusted some of the dungeons but the free jump mechanic will break a lot of stuff, speedrunners will be eating.
Then again I expect a full 1-1 PTSD recreation with the Water Temple.
10
u/Iron_Phantom29 4d ago
The fact that you can quick swap items will cut down on stress exponentially.
22
u/QXKD 3d ago
Looks fantastic, would honestly love a brand new game in this style. Kinda disappointed it’s a 1-1 remake but there’s a ton of understated QOL changes here that will go a long way to make the game feel a lot better.
I feel like the complaints towards this game really just sum up the general state of gaming discourse these days. For decades there’s been nothing but complaining that Nintendo are behind the times on the technical side, so they finally release a console capable of this level of detail and high framerates yet people still aren’t happy and spout whatever buzzword is making the rounds this month.
13
u/gevuldeloempia 3d ago
It's not a 1-1 remake. There are some differences from what I could see in the Deku Tree dungeon. But the "general idea" is the same, yes.

Yeah, I knew people were going to be disappointed. Coming in with lofty expectations getting the bare minimum. Game looks fun. Looks like Ocarina of Time. No movie information is interesting and questionable. I don’t understand why they wasted so much time on the Nintendo Museum that 99% of the people watching the direct won’t go see. Nor do I understand them spending so much time on Zelda Notes. Neat I guess but I don’t know many people who care about the mobile app.

I like the art style. I’ve been wishing for a more detailed style again since after Twilight Princess.
My issue though is extreme inconsistency in texture detail. Why are Link’s hat and clothes have so much more intricately designed and have way more detail to the texturing than anything else? Just compare it to the clothes of someone in Castle Town. It’s pretty distracting.

Just remember, it's still a 30 year old game. It's fantastic, but when playing it, be mindful that most of what you take for granted now, the game had innovated back in the day. Z-Targeting, day/night cycles, 1st person aiming, "giant" 3d world, horseback riding, etc etc etc.. not too many games did that stuff back then and no game did them all... and properly

I’m not really sure why this wasn’t just called the Ocarina of Time direct to set expectations accordingly.
Yeah concerts and little stuff in the mobile app are neat, but didn’t warrant the title “40th Anniversary Direct”.
Like we couldn’t even get NSO games? Not even talking about the full remakes but like how hard would it have been to just add Twilight Princess?

Better controls and amazing graphics. For me this is all that was needed. This will be just as special as when I played the original as a kid with my brothers. As much as I'm looking forward to GTA, it won't hit me as emotionally hard as this game. This is a masterpiece and for newer generations to play it, maybe they will see why it was so loved and why it is the highest rated game of all time.

I have mixed feelings. My honest opinion
When they first saw the game play reveal today I thought the graphics look very 'unreal engine' / AI generated. As it went on, it looked much better, but that was my first opinion.
I'm kinda disappointed that it's a 1:1 remake. I wanted a fairly faithful adaption with some things changed up, like the hyrule field and the castle.
I'm still excited to play it and will definitely get it at launch but my excited has gone from 11/10 to 8/10

I'd say it looks good and bad? Like, the character designs look pretty faithful to the original but the graphics went too hyper-realistic for the content. It's uncanny valley weird seeing a cartoon with orange-peel skin with wet reflections and stuff. It looks like they poured oil over everything.

It looks good, but not great; everything looks way too detailed, like they had some "HD filter" and cranked it to the max resulting in way too much contrast and everthing looking wet. Needs to be dialed back a tad.

u/Iris_Mobile 3d ago
It really does look like one of those fan trailers for a remake done in unreal engine. There's just this "overdone" quality with the shininess and contrast. I think a style closer to BOtW would have been more fitting.

This feels like a "What if Zelda was on Unreal Engine" videos. I think thats whats putting people off. The unreal engineness of it. We're just not used to that in a Nintendo game.

u/djdiphenhydramine 4d ago
I'm so excited for this, and Ocarina isn't even close to being my favorite Zelda. It looks so gorgeous and so fun.
I'm really sad we didn't get any mention of Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD though. I was so hoping for a Mario 35th type physical release. I don't feel like it's too much to ask, I really don't.

It honestly looks amazing!
Faithful but fresh without breaching the integrity of what made the original game great. Seems like they were delicate and restrained with what they've chosen to add new in the game and focused more on really polishing the original experience, which I think will end up being the right call.
It was always going to be a nearly impossible task to translate the N64 graphics to modern visuals but I think they've done a great job - really stylized!

Anyone saying “Unreal Engine fan game” or “ugly” or any other memes of this is honestly just a hater. Nintendo will never do anything to make those people happy, so be default their opinions are meaningless. People wanted a remake for years and they are finally delivering and all I see at the end of the stream is “rip twilight princess” like come on people. Real Nintendo and Zelda fans are more than happy with what they saw today.
Edit: I can tell from all these comments that the trolls are hard at work to downplay nintendo.

It's not being a hater to be TIRED of all games looking the same nowadays, the unreal engine/dlss5 criticism are well suited

If you say so.
I love Zelda and I will definitely play OoT HD, but I’m not a fan of this art direction and most certainly not a fan of the Unreal Engine aesthetic. Everything looks so shiny, like porcelain or clay. It’s irritating.Wasn’t a fan of Wind Wakers art style at first, but it grew on me while playing. Maybe it’s the same here.
If that makes me not a real fan and hater, so be it.

I’m really, really excited for the OoT remake, don’t get me wrong.
But I’m a little disappointed to see the modern UI sticking around from the Wild era games. The minimalist, airy, light weight look was amazing for those games. But Ocarina of Time’s original pause menu looking something like it was carved on giant stone tablets was so much more fitting for the grandeur and legendary story being told.

I've got three major complaints.
The English voice acting is still low quality (and no lip-synced animations for English is just inexcusable at this point). The game should have been fully voiced.
Link is over-designed, even down to the belts and buckles themselves.
BotW's item quick-swap UI being injected into everything with 0 changes feels like genuine trolling on Nintendo's part. The #1 thing that people complain about BotW and Nintendo just completely ignores those concerns and continue to act like nothing is wrong with it. It's a huge downgrade from dedicated item menus and I didn't see one at all in this trailer or preview.
I like the music remixes though, and the Ocarina function is a neat idea.

Haven’t seen the whole thing yet but besides kid Links face the artstyle looks really good and prefer it over botk & totk.
I think it does a much better job than 65% of old game remakes do, with adding modern lighting tech and a more realistic look, while still keeping that cartoony-ness/atmosphere.

Looks absolutely incredible. I was thrown off by the new character designs and voice acting at first, but by the end of the full trailer I can say they've grown on me very quickly.

I wish it wasn't a 1:1 remake just because it means I'll beat the game really quick. But I'm excited to see how the Bottom of the Well and Shadow Temple look in all their creepy glory. They really nailed the atmosphere and fairy tale feeling of the original game.
But I understand this is Reddit, so obligatory "iT lOoKs LiKe A pS2 gAmE" comments abound all over

What a great day to forget my headphones. I won't be able to listen to it at work now and instead be a productive worker bee.... 😭

Quite hilarious that it looks like the "Focus, M" meme. I'm not sure there could've been any way people liked the changes, it's one of if not the most iconic games of all time after all.

This looks like those fan make remake trailers you'd see on YouTube. Like the fan made FF9 one.

Nintendo telling us there's movie news and the news is the title is The Legend of Zelda is the most Nintendo thing I can fucking think of.
