It probably wont happen at all, these people have the younger generations by the balls and the people don't care they are used to being treated like shit
pretty sure no, many communities are self aware . in gacha though no matter how specific you word it to avoid any misunderstanding that you are criticizing the company and not the players or whatever they will still treat it as a personal attack and become hostile like it's a cult.
Not quite the same. You can say “weed rules but too much is really bad for your health” and then if you they attack you, yeah, they’re addicted. Same thing here.
Is it? I mean, we get those opinions regularly on a Genshin sub, but the problem isn't that we don't want to hear about it, problem is that those opinions are simply wrong and spouted by people who neither played the game nor have any idea what they're taking about. Like, game has plenty of issues, but they go for one's that are non-existent or not present at all, and expect the treat for "fighting the good fight"
i played genshin for 2 and a half years and whenever i speak about my experience nobody believe me, uses all kind of mental gymnastic to frame me as a fake player without any attempt at touching my points. it's like a cult where mihoyo is a god and their games the gospel.
now i am not hating these people or anything since i know they are victims inside a rather big echo chamber which make it very difficult to get an objective view of it whole.
i mostly just think it's a lost cause and forget about it
A few years ago I would probably agree with you but now, at least in the US, if consumers somehow hurt both Microsoft and Sony's bottom line, (again, in the US) all they'd have to do is bribe a certain someone and both companies would recover any lost profits via taxpayer dollars.
I am getting shredded in the Nintendo forums because I dared to say Nintendo is fleecing people with a 1:1 remake of a 30 year old game at full price of $70. Idk about that lol.
the ppl (children) are being manipulated by alot of psychological tactics with alot of money/research behind it to get you/them to buy those AAA games. fomo, gambling, all the tricks
I think about this a lot when I’m playing live service games. None of the ones I sink money into are triple A games I think. Even still I can’t say I like how susceptible I am to the fomo of a battle pass or the like.
the money sink is just one part of it. the time sink is way bigger than you think, they use all sort of tactics to keep you coming back with timed resources and drip feeding content, then eventually the sunk cost become too large and you can't quit anymore even if you stopped enjoying the game for a while now.
If you're poor, you can stop being susceptible to fomo tactics on the basis of not having the money to be susceptible to fomo tactics. Read: water found in ocean.
If you're filthy rich, like, you wipe your ass with $100 bills rich, try reducing your debit cards to only one debit card and put all of your money in your other accounts, keeping only a little amount of money in your debit card so that it's an inconvenience to move money from one account to another every time you want to waste money on bullshit. Psychologically, what is happening is you're putting a small mental wall between you and wasting your money on bullshit, by purposefully installing and maintaining an small inconvenience between you and money-wasting. You're banking on being too lazy to hypothetically climb that mental wall, preventing yourself from wasting money on bullshit.
If you lack force of will, there really is only one other way to prevent yourself from doing something by making it hard enough that you're too lazy to do it, and that is by making the consequences of doing it way too real and bad enough that your trauma kicks in every time you have the opportunity to do that thing, so you don't do it out of pure instinct.
I love my gacha games, but I am 100% a strong believer in why the fuck are these not 18+
Them and other live services are specifically designed to psychologically manipulate you...and who has soft squishy impressionable brains and no sense for the real cost of money? Kids.
Unfortunately a lot of the discourse ends up being "gacha bad, game bad, you are bad" so it never really gets anywhere 😩
if you bring these issue up it will legit become victim blaming in a beat. it's futile to try and educate random internet strangers on the danger of these type of games. the best way is to try and educate your own community about it, your close friends, your kids, your neighbors kids, even your grand parents about it, they are 10000 times more likely to listen to you.
This is the most disturbing thing to me. All of us that “know better” will eventually die off and all the young kids that grew up with microtransactions as a normal thing won’t think twice about it. People don’t often question the things that have just always been that way during their lifespan. I’m sure there are things that my millennial generation also don’t take into account in the same way.
Companies are milking it, but the ones paying for it are their parents.
The economy isn’t what it used to be in the US, which has been the top gaming market, and I think the number of parents letting their kids spend $10, $50, $100 a month on games and micro transactions is going to become less and less over the next few years.
Not all AAA games are multiplayer gaas cash grabs. RE Requiem, 007 First Light, FF7 Rebirth, Onimusha, Elden Ring, the Witcher remake, Baldurs Gate 3, soon GTA 6 etc are all amazing AAA games.
Nah people aren't the investor class that buys and violates studios destroying their creativity. People aren't the executives that override underpay and lay off the devs. People are poor tired and sad and will find joy where they can.
The amount of people that bitch about COD, NBA2K, Madden, and all these other low effort slop and then turn around and buy on day one next release is def part of the problem.
Meh... yea, money talks, but I'd actually sooner blame investors and capitalist. Most of these AAA developers would be making way better games if they weren't being told what to do by the kind of people who care more about rising profits than the art of it.
Doubtful. AAA never learns the correct lesson from failures. Look at how many times they take a studio out of their area of expertise and force them to make an entirely different game. The game flops. Studio closes.
eg: Dead Space 3 is turned into a buddy-cover-shooter like Gears of War when it's a SP horror franchise. They give them a massive budget wanting a mainstream game. Sales underperform. Studio closed.
Yep. Quit buying COD and Battlefields a few iterations ago.
I miss battlefield but turning it into a hero shooter was a no from me. I think my last one was the ww1 (or 2?) that came out after 4.
COD just became warzone/pack purchaser so I dropped them.
I mostly play soulslikes/single player experiences now and at least I know aside from maybe a dlc in getting the whole game and not being suckered into season passes.
Preordering games for one. Buying the same sports games year over year for another. Paying for all the micro transactions. They wouldn’t be doing all this shit if it wasn’t profitable and if people didn’t wait to change their spending habits until things go to absolute shit then we wouldn’t be in the situation we are in.
I’m worried about the industry and people rewarding developers for launching incomplete games. If you want to continue encouraging developers to fuck us over that sucks but we see you.

Honestly I feel like that’s just the gaming industry in a nutshell
