Not the worst thing for the consumer if Sony loses its stranglehold on the console market. It would be nice if XBox seizes the moment here and re-establishes themselves as a viable competitor.
Ideally another player entering the field would also be nice, but that's wishful thinking.
You can still build a pretty serviceable SteamOS compatible machine with second hand parts. I built an AM4 based machine with an RX6600XT, mostly out of second hand parts and it was a fraction of the cost of a Steam Machine and very comparable in performance. SteamOS runs perfectly on it. I would prefer AI to die so we can get back to sane prices but it isn't like a PS5 is particularly cheap these days either. Best bit is the only game I was remotely interested in on PS5 that isn't on PC was Wolverine and that's turned out to be utter trash so ..... yay?
AI has destroyed the logistics for consoles, the K shaped economy is getting worse, and over 50% of all retail sales in all industries are made up by the top 10% who are making bank off the AI gold rush
and inflation is eating away at the razor thin margins for games, inflating dev costs because the industry needs to rehire workers for every project, and funding for non-mobile games is drying up when its needed most.
we are looking at a mass extinction event that not even indie studios will survive, because who is gonna buy a game for a machine they cant afford?

Sony having their XBone moment. Punish them for their bullshit, stop giving them money.
