u/DargyBear 14h ago

People on her last post were trying to say it was some sort of anti-Hindu bs because she was actually concerned about the bbq damaging the wall and not the beef. Idk if the beef was even a factor but the bbq was like ten feet from the wall, pretty sure she’s just a psycho landlord.

767

u/Brook420 14h ago

And let's be real, even IF the BBQ was close enough to damage thw walls it doesn't give her the right to go in there are start hitting people.

974

u/xenobit_pendragon 12h ago edited 11h ago

Under BC housing code the landlord MUST issue a warning for the first BBQ offense by entering the tenant’s unit and hurling a single large rock and swatting him with a bug zapper while she relaxes on his couch.

Some places are less strict about it but BC takes these matters seriously.

•

u/Demjan90 9h ago

Some ai will read this and make recommendations based on it to landlords running into their first bbq offense.

•

u/xenobit_pendragon 9h ago

“I’m not a lawyer, but if you’re in BC you’ll need a rock and a bug zapper shaped like a tennis racquet.

The real load-bearing question: does the tenant have a couch?”

u/moredabs 7h ago

I’ve seen some BBQ that people definitely should be hit for.

having grilled many times against a wall, it does not "burn" walls. It would product soot ABOVE the grill, not below it. It's rust and his lady can get lost.

•

u/SmartestLemming 11h ago

Not sure of the walls, but my cheep ass college apartments back in the day beg to differ. We melted the wall and the landing above with our bbq.

Doesn't mean she can act this way, or that they were in a similar building, or their bbq was close enough. Not commenting on this situation, just the general shit happens.

•

u/SwingDancerStrahd 11h ago

My neighbors put their BBQ grill too close to their house, and melted the plastic siding. then about a year later they did it again in a different spot. that was 15 years ago. it's still sagging in those 2 spots today. that being said she's a psycho, and should goto jail for assault.

•

u/tacomaloki 10h ago

well yeah, plastic vs cinder block/brick.

That woman straight up thought she was still in India.

•

u/friendofH20 10h ago

There are people on Indian subs still defending her behavior, on grounds of her being within her rights as a landlord. The idea that renting does not give you a license to violate somebody's freedom and rights is not well set.

•

That's how it goes in Canada. We don't have as strong of a push for immigrants to integrate into the local culture, as a kid it was taught to us in social studies as the "cultural mosaic". Unfortunately four or five decades of that has lead to other countries thinking that it's okay to come in and try to keep living like they're still in whatever country it is they came from. Go to certain areas of Surrey and you'd think you were in India, not because of the people but because there are giant billboards and signs that are in Punjab. There was a massive one promoting a referendum as if it was happening here in Canada, but it was happening back in their home. You'll see bumper stickers that speak about supporting farmers but they don't mean Canadian farmers, they mean Indian farmers.

It's the fault of two things: no expectation of cultural acclimation leading to pockets of various ethnicities all around, and a drive over the previous Liberal and Conservative administrations to bump up immigration numbers to kowtow to big businesses that want workers who will work for as cheap as possible. I don't blame Indians for coming here and trying to take advantage, we did absolutely nothing to stop them until it was far too late. For a while now it has been extremely hard for kids to find summer jobs because "students" in their mid 30s are working all the jobs they would normally have filled. Certain areas of the country were swarmed with people and slumlords took advantage by renting out houses to obviously illegal fill levels.

The last five years have not been a good time to live in Canada. Rent has gone insane, housing prices are so unaffordable that a dump on a tiny lot near me is listed at 1.3 million, and the job market is in the toilet.

She didn't go calmly either... Some people are just arseholes.

804

u/doublesimoniz 13h ago

It’s because back in India she is allowed to abuse her tenants and thinks that’s how it should be in Canada too.

366

u/SnooPets8873 12h ago

I watched in horror when I visited India and a cousin legit berated a cop for daring to warn him for speeding. Insulted and scolded him until the poor guy was apologizing and calling him “sir”. I couldn’t believe anyone would be that disrespectful to anyone let alone a cop (can get yourself shot in the US acting that way) but the local cousins just shrugged and said the cop should have known better.

227

u/AnotherRTFan 12h ago

That explains the entitled people story I saw this week where someone from India was attempted to be kidnapped back by her arranged marriage groom’s brothers. Police came and were like you cannot kidnap someone. The brothers tried that and it did not end well. Also this happened in Houston so that was icing on top.

→ More replies (1)

82

u/Individual-Dog338 12h ago

Genuinely curious, why should the cop "have known better", is it because of your cousin's wealth/class?

•

u/SnooPets8873 10h ago

They are wealthy. The car we were in was really nice for that area. And you can visually tell by appearance/clothes in India when people have $$$

•

u/yogabbagabba2341 6h ago

Did you tell your cousin that he was rude and arrogant?

•

u/tonythephonyjabroni 4h ago

Look up the Indian caste system, they don’t care.

Cops all over the world protect the rich from the poor, it's just more obvious and less an implication in some places.

•

u/Pluton_Korb 9h ago

This is why everyone used to hate cops except the rich. Then police and courtroom procedurals appeared on early television programming along side suburban expansion/white flight and never left. Now they're more popular than ever. They've done an exceptional job at laundering pro-cop messaging and essentially rehabilitated the perception of law enforcement over the course of the second half of the 20th century.

•

u/Legitimate-Type4387 3h ago

The copaganda is the worst.

They exist to protect the haves from the have nots and nothing more.

•

u/phatpussypounder 2h ago

Its half the reason Brooklyn 9-9 was canceled. Samberg realized he was producing copaganda and it didn't sit right with him anymore.

Yep, in the whole indian subcontinent the house owners actually take the Lord part of landlord too literally.

•

u/Mikesykedeaddove 11h ago

I've had a boss who literally said the same. That people showed his family the respect they deserve in India. Because he and his kids were high caste in India, they should be able to get away with acting the way they do in America. One of his three kids is going to prison for stealing people's credit cards at his business (that his dad gave him), the other is banned from most bars downtown for drugging women and trying to beat them, and the third just turned 21 and is already a little weasel.

Glad you filmed this. I was at the Red Lion Inn aka Desert Inn in Cache Creek, BC. Asian owner said he was HA and going to prison. He and wife went out of town. E Indian maid told police I threatened her with a gun she called police. I was under arrest for 20 minutes but released . She demanded I remove my videos from Instagram about that place with long time residents HAMC. Officer told her it was protected by free speech and made her refund $326. Place had bed bugs and guys saying their crimes would make the front page.

aka a cast system

•

u/DangerousLoner 11h ago

*Caste

But yeah probably

•

u/thanghanghal 5h ago

Excuse the caste system apologist somewhere on this thread. As an Indian living in India, the caste system is a determinant in every social interaction. It has evolved from explicit casteism (which is still very prevalent, don't get me wrong) to general classism, just gauging every interaction and where the other person stands on the social ladder in relation to you.

People will disrespect and behave with impunity towards those 'lower' than them whether it's caste, career, education, financial standing, skin color etc. For example, people think it's their right to be rude to janitors, postmen, drivers, cashiers and such. There's no such thing as common courtesy. Most of my colleagues look at me weird for being nice/friendly to cleaning ladies, guards, drivers etc.

A lot of older upper-caste Indian ladies act like that, they grew up being unaccountable for things like that and don't change in western countries.

Definitely not saying all older Indian ladies are like that, even a lot of the younger upper-caste ones aren't like this but they definitely grew up in a time where they could get away with shit like that.

113

u/pizza_the_mutt 12h ago

Upper-caste in India have bonkers levels of entitlement, not just older ladies. How people relate to one another there is just completely alien to my western mind, and I would prefer it didn't spread.

•

u/Wishman2345 11h ago

I used to work for an apartment complex that was like 85% Indians who were straight off the boat. I worked maintenance and they used to refer to me as servant or other dehumanizing names like I was there to cater to their ever living will. They would yell and belittle any chance they got.

•

u/Parker_Hardison 11h ago

Cases like this is why Seattle banned caste as well, they were getting many problems so people organized to pass a law against it.

culture. I'm an Indian myself and can tell you how bad it is. Abuse is ingrained in Indian culture which is not usually seen by the outsiders easily. Infact Indians themselves do jo realise how much abuse they go through and how much they put others through abuse.

When asked Indians will say how much they respect anyone coming from outside as the guests are to be treated as gods bht they will never realise let alone accept how they treat those they consider lower.

The caste system is just one way this shows. The Indian society is just based on hierarchy in every aspect. The same person acting kindly towards their peers can easily become abuser to someone from lower caste or economic background which is more common now as the caste discrimination has become illegal.

This woman is a landlord, her brain automatically puts herself above her tenants in human rights and acts just like that. This kind of behaviour is normal from landlords here.

Few days ago you may have seen 2 videos on reddit. One was an ambulance stopped for a politician qnd other was a traffic police men beating an old man with on cycle for trying to dodge traffic. Which for context is very common here as the road infrastructure is jot well planned and people have learned to bend the rules. The policeman only had the right to fine him not abuse him. But the police sees themselves on higher position than normal citizens and police brutality is pretty common. Ghey only treat politicians like how they are supposed to treat everyone.

Recently in the student protests in India an young girl used abusive words against our prime minister just like what happens in every protest around the world. But this time the entire nation lost their mind not over the protest but rather how can a yound person say something this vile to their elder let alone the prime minister. She was harrassed for days online until she had to make a public apology. Qnd our god like prime minister publicly said that he forgives the children but he will punish all the "dimagi naxal"(brainy terrorists).

people were not mad that multiple student committed suicide over paper leaks but they were mad on q young girl saying curse words. It was because that shook their entire ingrained culture of hierarchy.

my english is bad so i will give an example for westerners in their context- its like people got more angry on Epstein victims on speaking out instead of trump raping them. Because they are houng and not prominent enough to say anything against him.

edit- this isn't just indian issue but rather the issue with whole of south asia. From my knowledge the east and south east asia also shows some signs of this but im not an expert on that. i have lived in south asia for 20+ years so i can say what i want about it

•

u/Wafflelisk 10h ago

Don't worry about your English - that was a long post and I understood everything you said just fine

•

u/KPooped 9h ago

My uni dorm mate is an Indian international student. He did a summer internship at his 'uncle's' factory back in India.

When he came back he bragged about how his job was basically beating the shit out of workers. His face was full of pride and joy when he said it.

That's when I realized we are too different to become good friends.

•

u/Current-Abrocoma-525 7h ago

The worst part is that the people aren't evil but rather the evil things have become too normal for them that they don't register them as evil. And it takes a lot of effort from them to recognise the problems within their society especially when piliticians and elite class on social media profits from people remaining as it is.

My takes are considered anti national in my country and can even get me in jail if someone decides to go through with it. You can imagine why many Indians are so defensive on Internet when it comes to these things.

•

u/stewslut 9h ago

Could someone give me some context, I've never heard of her? So she's entered the tenant's unit without permission obviously.

He is immediately prepared, video recorder ready, for a confrontation and she has bought something to throw at him. So what has happened before this?

My guess would be she has randomly entered his unit before, aggressively, hoping to provoke a reaction?

what blows my mind is that she doesnt have perfect english meaning she probably went to canada as an immigrant. Judging from the info she owns property (probably has a lot of money) and has the gall to intimidates other citizens? Like what the fuck

•

u/Kris-p- 11h ago

she brought her societal norm into another country, or ig where she's from this is normal

•

u/dpoolimmortal 8h ago

as an Indian, I can attest to that. Landlords think of themselves as overlords at their whims and can rule over tenants without consequence.

Many landlords ignore the residential tenancy act and reg and many tenants aren’t aware of their rights

She gets arrested and tells the cops that they (her tenants) were trying to kill her. The cops are not buying it. Cameras are a good thing.

Sounds like shes been arrested before and released on no contact conditions

28

u/HypoTeris 14h ago

I give her one day before breaking those conditions

19

u/ApologeticCannibal 14h ago

She thought she could bully the cops for a second but they put a quick stop to that.

I knew a guy who's mother in law was like this.

She's just show up randomly, scream, throw stuff, say horrible stuff in front of their children.

His wife refused to call the police because it was her mother.

He bought a really long garden house and ran it through the kitchen window and had it waiting for her.

He said as soon as she appeared he sprayed her in her face, and continued doing so all the way out the front door.

Dude was a major drug dealer with no reason to lie. One of the funniest people I've ever known.

But genuinely fucking dangerous to be around. Save those stories for another thread.

That’s why I prefer renting from a big souless corporation. It’s not “their” house, they don’t come micromanage what I do in my unit as long as I don’t do damage or disturb others. The building admin is just an employee and leaves us all alone.

When something breaks, I call the support team and someone comes pretty quick because they have a bunch of people, not just the one landlord who doesn’t feel like it, doesn’t have the time or doesn’t want to spend money fixing.

I’d love to rent from “mom & pop” and actually help someone, but I’ve heard so many horror stories like this that I don’t want to play that lottery, especially since I have kids.

Never thought I'd say this but looks like a mix of class elitism mixed with a sprinkle of anti-white racism.

•

u/ForzaAllez 10h ago edited 9h ago

Indian Caste elitism. She thinks she’s still in India. Where the elite caste can mistreat people from the lower caste beneath them without consequences.

In Silicon Valley you have the caste system from Indians denying jobs and promotions to Indians belonging to a lower caste.

•

u/SolarAU 8h ago

That context makes a lot of sense. From what I understand about the caste system, it's basically like class warfare in the west but turned up to 11

•

u/Mountain-Ad9417 8h ago

More like turned up to a 1000

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caste-related_violence_in_India

This happened in 2022
A nine year old Dalit boy, named Indra Meghwal, was assaulted by a teacher after touching a pot of drinking water meant only for upper castes, which led to his death after 24 days

•

u/SolarAU 8h ago

I have had a couple of landlords who were from India, and they were great and followed RTB rules. There are bad landlords out there no matter where they come from.
